On blog structure and topic [Advanced]

What if you run a university website with 20 faculties, how would you approach building a blog for them?
- Would you do it like most universities do - put all blogs in a subdomain and each individual faculty in a subfolder. Like this: https://blogs.monash.edu/
- Would you put the blog in a subfolder and create categories for each faculty - like Mashable does for tech, entertainment, etc.
- Or, create separate subfolders for each faculties?
- If you have other ideas, please share.
For argument's sake, the goal of the blog(s) is to generate leads. It's part of a larger content marketing effort and they want to maximize the blog's SEO benefit.
And by the way, please state what you think are the advantages/disadvantages of your chosen option.
Thanks!

This is a difficult question because the buy-in of the authors (faculty) matters. What you really want is that each blog created is regularly updated with good, fresh, vibrant content. If only 1 of the 20 faculty members is actually going to blog regularly, you will probably want to create a single blog and have them post to various categories. Otherwise, you will end up with one regularly updated blog and a ton of dead ones.
If you have good buy in, I would create blogs on a category basis. It is highly unlikely that these blogs will be accessed by people looking for the faculty members specifically, so they don't each need their own blog.

Sponsored blog - pass any link juice?
Hello there, If a quality blog in our specific niche writes an article about us which is clearly labelled "sponsored post" as we have either paid them or given them a product, will Google discount that link going back to our website? Should we request for the link to be "no-follow"? Thanks Robert

Blog On Subdomain - Do backlinks to the blog posts on Subdomain count as links for main site?
I want to put blog on my site. The IT department is asking that I use a subdomain (myblog.mysite.com) instead of a subfolder (mysite.com/myblog). I am worried b/c it was my understanding that any links I get to my blog posts (if on subdomain) will not count toward the main site (search engines would view almost as other website). The main purpose of this blog is to attract backlinks. That is why I prefer the subfolder location for the Blog. Can anyone tell me if I am thinking about this right? Another solution I am being offered is to use a reverse proxy. Thoughts? Thank you for your time.

Any arguments against eliminating all (non-blog) subfolders?
Short URLs seem to do the trick from a UX perspective. For example: /primary-care vs. /why/specialties/primary-care . This convention will be applied over 30-40 pages. Note that while "/why/specialties/primary-care" isn't terribly ugly, some of our pages would look a little overly-keywordy if we go with the subfolder approach.

Generating Rich Snippets without Structured Data
I noticed something in Google search results today that I can't explain. Any help would be appreciated. I performed a real estate based search and the top result featured a rich snippet showcasing the following... Address Price Bd/Ba

912 Garden District Dr #17. Charlotte, NC 28202 $179,990 3 / 2
222 S Caldwell St #1602. Charlotte, NC 28202 $389,238 2 / 2&1/2 However, when I visit the page associated with this information, there is no Schema to be found. In fact, the page is, for the most part, just a large table listing homes on the market. The table headings are Address, Price, and Bd/Ba. Is it common for Google to use table based data to generate rich snippets? What is the best way to influence this? In the absence of Schema (as the page we are talking about has no Schema implementation), does Google default to table data? Has anyone seen this behavior before and, if so, can you point me to it? EDIT: I've now come across a few other examples where the information is not in a table, but rather in divs. Why are such sites (you can find some by searching for "[ZIPCODE] real estate") getting this treatment?0 -
Can anyone explain what the blog network penalties news is about please?
I have seen the latest news about Google penalizing blog networks and as a newbie starting out am wondering if my multi-site plans would constitute as a blog network. My question is, is having a couple of external blogs on keyword rich domains pointing back at my primary domain name considered to be a blog network of the kind that Google is penalizing?
