Woah, my A-grade optimized pages that were on the first page have all vanished outside the top 50 in Google... is this Panda?
-
Yep as mentioned, I had some pages hit the top ten pretty quickly after ensuring they were A-grade for pretty uncompetitive keywords however, today, all bar 2 have just vanished from the top 50!
All were ranking in Google.co.uk and I know we were predicting the Panda update to hit soon but WOW!
My client is understandably a little upset, what on earch do I tell him and what should I do about it?
Cheers!

Problem solved, well, more like diagnosed!
Although the pages were A grade optimised, filters on the page (i.e. sort by high price, low price, new products) were seen as duplicate pages as the CMS would take the static page and add some dynamic content for the filter. Rel Canonical has sorted it, but we shall see next time Google updates.

I've not heard of the spike lasting a couple of months before - more like a few days. Maybe the factor that you mentioned, that they are low-traffic keywords, played into this. Interesting.
-
Yea I suspect it was an initial spike.
I monitor rankings within SEOmoz pro, so my Google login isn't impacting.
-
I did some experiments with new websites and could bring them to first page but then the dropped quite a bit. Most likely it is some sort of spike which I've read about. It does happen sometime with some of our older websites too.
please make sure that you are not logged in in your google account it might change results. -
Yes they were new pages for an eCommerce site, some had products, others were just landing pages for longtail searches.
They managed to get into the top ten with no backlinks at all, which surprised me. They have been in that position for a couple of months.

A few questions:
Were the pages new pages? If so how long were they in the top 10 for? I'm wondering if Google was just taste-testing them to measure CTR etc.
What sort of content is on the pages? Has anything changed in terms of inbound links recently?

Wrong page ranking on SERP, above more relevant page
Often I will see the wrong page, something less relevant to a particular search, appear higher on the SERP than a more relevant page. Why does this happen and how can it be remedied? I found this Moz article, has anything been written on this topic more recently. Thanks! https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions

Home page and category page target same keyword
Hi there, Several of our websites have a common problem - our main target keyword for the homepage is also the name of a product category we have within the website. There are seemingly two solutions to this problem, both of which not ideal: Do not target the keyword with the homepage. However, the homepage has the most authority and is our best shot at getting ranked for the main keyword. Reword and "de-optimise" the category page, so it doesn't target the keyword. This doesn't work well from UX point of view as the category needs to describe what it is and enable visitors to navigate to it. Anybody else gone through a similar conundrum? How did you end up going about it? Thanks Julian

Form Only Pages Considered No Content/Duplicate Pages
We have a lot of WordPress sites with pages that contain only a form. The header, sidebar and footer content is the same as what's one other pages throughout the site. Each form page has a unique page title, meta description, form title and questions but the form title, description and questions add up to probably less than 100 words. Are these form pages negatively affecting the rankings of our landing pages or being viewed as duplicate or no content pages?

Google Indexing
Hi, We recently launched a new version of our site on the Magento platform. I submitted a new sitemap and on the first crawl only 7 pages out of 132 were indexed...a few days later and we now have 107 indexed (phew). My question is this....how on earth do i find out which pages are indexed and more importantly not indexed? For all i know they might be really important ones so I need to be able to identify the missing pages so i can work on getting them indexed. Nic

Sold Products appear as duplicate pages 'Page Not Found' ???
Hi there, I'm down to just 6 duplicate page warnings but I'm not sure how to deal with this one: Information Page Not Found! http://www.vintageheirloom.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=6 My Ecommerce shopping site products are unique, 1 of a kind. So once one product has sold and been delivered we take the product off our website, hence the Information Page Not Found! As I understand when search engines re-index these warnings will drop off but new sold products would replace them. So redirecting seems like hard work and never ending. Is it ok to ignore these warnings? Thanks Mozzers..

Autogenerated pages
My main product is database conversion software. As it supports tons of databases, it's fairly easy to generate thousands of landing pages simply by variating source/target database names, connection information etc. In fact, I autogenerated almost 25k pages that way. As I didn't want to jeopardize my main site, I placed all that content to a new microsite (www.fullconvert.com) which had no history and no inbound links. Results were nice - site is live two months and in second month already had 1300 visitors. Now, my question is - should I create the same thing on my (old and rather authoritative) main site www.spectralcore.com? I could use a different template to avoid duplicate content. Of course, my main concern is being penalized by Google. In my opinion, this autogenerated content is fine because it provides (tons of) laser-focused landing pages, so visitors will instantly recognize they found what they're looking for. But Google might disagree! What do you think? Is there a danger in trying to leverage authority of my main site in adding 20k+ autogenerated pages with inbound no links to them?

Home Page SEO
Hi! We recently re-designed our home page in early March. After Google panda, we re-tweaked it again, before we take it live, we really want to get some expert's opinions. We would be grateful for any comments/suggestions/feedback, particularly in the following area (you will need to click a few times to get the page to real size): is the bottom content ok? please scroll down all the way. 2) We used semantic keywords for 5-6 anchor interlinks to the same page to promote core products from the home page. Is this too much? 80% links on the footer is a repetition of header navigation links, do these footer serve any SEO value or is it over - optimization? Here is the URL: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/36547134/1/WebDesign?h=109d4a Thanks a lot!
