No Follow User Profiles?
-
So our site has these user profiles and when they leave a comment on a page it links to the users profile. Now there is no way there is spamming with these profiles because they can't use outside links on them so I was wondering what peoples thoughts are of making these user profiles no follow.
I'm asking because some pages are coming back with 110 or more links on a single page because of the profiles so I was thinking of making the profiles no follow since I don't see them effecting too much of the site, but I was wondering what others thoughts were on this one.
-
Yeah they are legit for now. I already told them to do the no-follow so I think it should be okay.
-
Are they users leaving legitimate comments on your site? I don't see a problem with making the profiles no follow since they are probably less content-driven pages.
-
Well just decided to do a nofollow. Let's see how it goes. If anyone has more opinions on this please share.

Could anyone help me with this fake site I found in my backlink profile?
The site is masquerading as 'yurbuds' store, a brand of headphones, but in SERPs, as seen in the image below, the content on the site is actually of one of my other sites. Has anyone seen anything like this before? How would it have happened? My instinct is to disavow. Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance! IvDcE

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

No Follow Link Advice for a Newbie
Hi Moz-ers! 2 part question I would love suggestions to: I'm fairly new to the SEO world and working towards targets of 4 'follow' and 6 'no_follow' links a month, in house. 1. Apart from Wikipedia and bloggers that issue 'no_follow' links, what are good 'no_follow' slink generation ideas? 2. I've read lots about the benefit of no_follow and follow links and the ongoing debate, how does this target/KPI stack up against others out there? And is it a well structured target? I know its a big question, but I'd love some feedback. Big Thanks!

Links from support community profiles
I was answering some questions on the Apple support website because I like to answer questions for people there and I decided to check out my profile. I noticed that at some point I inserted my website in a field they provide called "homepage" then I viewed the source and noticed that it is a "dofollow" link. So I have decided to start targeting questions that relate to my niche. Can even these links help my rankings? Since my username links to my profile page which has the link to my website?

Building on Brand for a keyword heavy domain with bad backlink profile
The domain is keyword heavy think along the lines of "mountainbikes.com" and they are ranking ok for mountain bikes, however on inspection they have a LOT of poor quality back links and a lot of those links are anchor text phrases (and far too much of it!). A lot of people recommend building on brand in situations like this, however how would I go about doing this for a site without a branded domain name? In this case their is a company name but it's not the same as the domain name, would you simply build links using the company name "Uber Bikes" or use the domain www.mountainbikes.com. If the aim is just to build a more varied back link profile then I guess using both would be good? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Do No follow links from social media platforms transfer authority or value when they link to third party websites?
With social media playing a bigger role in SEO (since the Panda, Penguin updates etc) and how search engines rank sites now, does anybody know why Twitter for instance has 'no follow' when I check my client's websites under 'inbound links' on Open Site Explorer?

700,000+ Google Webmaster Messages Sent - unnatural linking Profile. What to do?
Google has confirmed they have sent out of over 700,000 messages through its google webmaster interface in February. Thats more than what they sent in all of 2011. Where does this leave us? What have we done wrong? What works going forward? Im sure many business's will be left in a very bad position over this update, people will lose their jobs. I always considered myself to be very careful with my link building as I am totally reliant on search for my business. I think something so big requires a better explanation from google. Has SEOmoz any more info on such a big update? This really needs input from the big SEO heads.
