Whats Next, noobie needs some help :)

Hey Everyone,
I have been a member of SEOMOZ for about 4 months and love it, it really has helped me out.
my first website I am trying to get well ranked in the new zealand market is
I have chosen:
-
sell online
-
free ecommerce website
-
ecommerce website builder
Are paid links the way forward for me? should I aim for more keywords? should I pay for help?
Just looking for a lttle direction, if someone could help. thanks.

hmm interesting, well I have started laying the foundation for all the blog content which is linked to facebook and i'll link to it on twitter as I complete it and see how that helps.
-
Not at all. Good links from around the world will be of huge value to you.
You will end up fostering a worldwide community. Many people that read your blog and use your information will not be from New Zealand - although your core customers will be. This is often the case with online companies - your community will reach further than your core location.
-
I have been thinking about this, I have a bunch of questions kiwis search for and I am thinking of answering them on my blog
I have looked into my rivals but none of them have done much SEO that I can see, worldwide rivals I could but I am always fearful getting too many links from outside New Zealand would be worse for me?
-
Paid link would be really risky. Buying links to influence results is against google quality guidelines so you could expect a penalty if caught. It certainly works for some, but you need to know what you are doing as damage caused by such techniques can be very hard to reverse.
I'd start by going back to your keyword research to be honest. Where your site is still very new (in terms of backlinks) I'd be looking to broaden out the number of terms that you are looking to rank for. I'd then ensure that you have pages that target each of those terms, hopefully with content good enough to pick up it's own links.
Link building wise I would probably start by offering up accounts for review from sites that have previously reviewed rival platforms. Referral sign ups should be key in your market anyway, so starting with these will give you a double whammy. I'd do the same to sites that target work from home markets, mummy businesses etc.
**should I pay for help? **
If you have the budget now, then yes. It looks like you have a lot of basics still to cover. Even some consultation time that left you with a solid plan that you could work through yourself would probably be very valuable to you at this stage.
-
No, do not pay for links - you will be penalised. Start a blog and create content that will help people who may use your service. Think of things like 'How mobile is effecting ecommerce' or 'How to use social media to build loyal customers'.
Once you have a blog and are creating your content then you will begin to see a quick rise in search traffic on your analytics package. Take a look at some of the keywords people are searching to find you and you will see that just having 3 is too low. You will need to constantly update your list of keywords.
There is no harm in paying people for help, as long as you find the right vendor for you. SEOmoz have a great list of recommended companies.

Urgent help needed for site move with major ranking loss
URGENT HELP/ADVICE NEEDED I am so stressed and worried about my website domain change. I desperately need advice as soon as possible. I will try my best to keep this as brief as possible. I have owned and operated my punk clothing business online at the URL toofastonline.com for 15 years now. And for a long long time we ranked #1 for punk clothing on Google & life was good. However, thanks to the arrival of several cheap marketplaces and other unanticipated changes our ranking dropped considerably. The last few years have been extremely hard on us, to say the least, we came really close to losing the business altogether. But finally after lots of hard work & long hours, things started to improve. Ranking went back up, and we were busy again. I had been toying with the idea of buying the domain TooFast.com for about 10 years, but I never had the money to do it until this now, so I made the leap and as of Jan 9, toofastonline.com became toofast.com. Unfortunately, I now know that I set up the domain change hastily, without doing any of the pre-work Google suggests to do. I didn’t know it then but I did it wrong. And our site which wasranking #7 for punk clothing on Jan. 8th is now number 51 and today is only Jan 24th! I AM PANICKING. I have looked for help, posting jobs on Shopify Experts site several times now, opening accounts with MOZ and SEM Rush, spending countless hours on the phone with GoDaddy, Shopify and even long chats with Google. I have spent all day everyday for the past two weeks trying fix everything to no avail. No one can start on my site issues fast enough. And I have been given so much wrong information that I feel like I have done irreparable damage. I was (am) not qualified to make this kind of a site change alone. Too much was done too fast and without any real working knowledge Google SEO. My brother was the SEO guy and since he left the business I have just been struggling along with it, just trying to keep my head above water. So now for the big question: Should I temporarily change my Shopify stores domain back to toofastonline.com? This way I couldstart at the beginning, fix all the 404 redirects, fix the 301 redirects, clean up code, get the site in top working condition, and then, as Google suggests in theirGoogle Search Console Change of Address Toolstart to do the change of address in small sections, I can not afford to make any more reckless decisions. I have started and stopped, updated, fixed, changed and tried to fix again too many times now. I dont want Google to think I am trying something shady.. I’m not, I just don’t know what I’m doing, and I need help. Here is as much info as I can think of, I am more than willing to pay for help or do the work myself, as long as what I am doing is the right thing. Any and all help/advice/offers are welcome! Need advice and smart solution for H1
Hi! I've been quite a long time trying to find a solution to the html structure of a webpage that I'am auditing right now. But I need your valuable help! The problem is the following: Actually, they have different sections inside. The structure is something like this Masters - Degrees - Programs - About us - News And if you go to the Masters Section you will find something like this Masters Master number 1 in Tourism (brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism) Presentation

(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism) Objectives
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/objectives) Professional opportunites
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/professional-opportunities) Faculty
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/faculty) Qualification
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/qualification) Financial
(brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/financial) Master number 2 with a long name Presentation Objetives Profesisional opportunities Faculty ... Master number 3 in Sports and so on The Degrees section, has inside exactly the same structure with the same names. My doubt is related with the use of h1 tag What would be the best h1 strategy for each content page? Each master has 6 pages (presentation, objectives, faculty,...) For page Objetives,
brand.com/master/master-number-1-tourism/objectives If I choose to use as H1 just the word Objetives, what will happen is that I will have a lot of pages (one per master, degree or program), with the same H1, because each master will have its own page Objectives. If we have 10 masters + 10 degrees + 2 programs y will have 22 pages with the same H1 Objecives If I choose to use as H1 the following: "Objectives of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name" it will be difficult for the users to visually see the difference between the different pages. for instance Objectives of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name and Faculty of the Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name because they only differ in one word. What do you think of this solution? Objectives Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name is it correct to do this inside the h1? or would you use combinations of h1 and h2 like these
h1: Objectives
h2: Master Number 1 in Tourisim and so on with long name would be this appropiate?0 -

Does including your site in Google News (and Google) Alerts helps with SEO?
Based on the following article http://homebusiness.about.com/od/yourbusinesswebsite/a/google-alerts.htm in order to check if you are included you need to run site:domain.com and click the news search tab. If you are not there then... I ran the test on MOZ and got no results which surprised me. Next step according to :https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/40787?hl=en#ts=3179198 is to submit your site for inclusion. Should I? Will it help? P.S.

Is there a way to easily just say Allow /Blog/Post and ignore the rest. How do we do that in Robot.txt Thanks0 -
Help me solve a keyword ranking mystery please
I posted this and had some help (thank you!) but found some new things, so I thought I'd just start a new thread so no info. is missed. Hi everyone, I'm new here 🙂 So far I've had wonderful success seo wise and none of the updates (Penguin nor Panda) affected any sites, until this one. For example, one site has 7 keywords I'm optimizing for. Out of those 7, all but 2 (and variations of the 2 - one word vs long-tail) completely tanked. These keywords were all on page 2/3. One of the two survivors never budged from page 2 (it's a brand keyword so I was very happy to finally get it to page 2) Now when I check rankings, the other terms show up in the 200-400 spots, but NOT for the URL I was optimizing for (category page) but instead for random products in the category. The only thing I've done differently with the 2 keywords that are still doing well, was focus - we did more link-building for those, but not an extreme amount. Never over-optimize. My question is, how did 2 survive and 5 are still floating up and down. Last night I saw one go up 122 spots, now today down 14. I'm really struggling with this. I just ran another diagnostic crawl here and the report found 0 errors and 0 warnings. I checked category content with a plagiarism checker and found some external duplicate content which I've already taken care of. No critical warnings/messages in WMT either. I'm stumped 😞 Thank you for any help.

Do comment links on blogs help the blog itself rank?
Hi I have a blog - Carzilla.co.uk - and it keeps getting what are pretty obviously spam comments with links to unconnected websites of various quality. The blog is quite new and not ranking highly in SERPs for anything in particular yet. So my question is, is it better to let some of these comments through so google can see activity on the site? Or do spammy comments with links make the site look like a link farm? Any advice on what my policy should be - purely from a Google serps perspective - would be great.
