Is it worth it to link to sites that link to you in guest posts?
-
Suppose you published a guest post on a quality site and you link to a previous guest post you have written for another site (which links to you). In theory you could send link juice to the page that links to you for a second order effect. Has anyone seen results from this tactic?
-
If you're really worried about it, why not just link it to a site that has more authority.. like a social media account or an about.me profile. Let the link juice flow that way.
-
I assume you are talking about a real post that was published on the other blog.
- donford, I don;t think they mean guestbook, they mean guest post.
The post you put on the other blog must be related to what your expertise is, otherwise you wouldn't have been invited to post there. You are probably linking back to your site, it not in the body of the post (for a specific, valid reason), or at the end, in your bio.
If that blog is really related to your site, then you could find some way of linking back to it, in a relevant way.
- Or you might consider promoting your guest post in some other way, either bookmarking it or adding it on one or more of the social media sites, where it makes sense to do so.
Maybe you could get some of your contacts there to comment on it.
You could also tweet about it, put it on your facebook and tell your friends.
It might be better not to link to it from your site, but if you had a page where you tell people about the guest posts you have done, that would be valid too. Don't just make it a page full of links - write a story about it, why you wrote for that blog, how it was related, and about the good work they do.
Of course, if it is a bad site, then don't even think about guest posting there.
-
I would not recommend actively pursuing none-related sites guestbooks. There are several reasons why.
1. Typically they are nofollow, and if they aren't then they are spammed to hell and back.
2. Not related sites can potentially be seen as spammy if you get a crap ton of links from un-related sites you can be penalized.
3. The link juice gets diluted every time somebody else post a link.Sure if you happen to be on a site, there is no harm in occasionally dropping your link related or not.
Related sites guestbooks still have the same potential pitfalls but may be worth a smidgen more time. Notably if you see your competitors there.
The main thing is don't over think it. If you see your competitors there and the site isn't riddled with spam, say nice job on the site, I like x article and move on.
-
Let's say the guest blog on a blog unrelated to you is linking to your site A. I would not recommend linking to Site A in anyway, that would technically mean reciprocal links.
However, if you have another guest post on Site B, that "may" very selectively link to your blog post on Site A. It does help strengthen link at times.

Typical percentage of links found in Webmaster Tools but are not in Open Site Explorer?
50% of our links are found in Webmaster Tools but are not found in Open Site Explorer. Is this normal? If these links are not indexed does that mean our DA will not grow as high as it could until they are crawled?

I found a link to my customer's site with an over-optimized anchor text using the OpenSite Explorer tool, but when I opened the link, my customer's link is nowhere to be found. Here is the link Opensiteexplorer gave me: http://www.derbymadness.com/my-profile/demolition-derby-groups/viewgroup/12-web And here is my customer's link: 1896omalleyhouse.com The link is not on the cached version of the page either. Can anyone tell me how this might happen? Thanks!

Linking strategy between my own sites
Hi, I have one main site, let's call it food.com I also have 10 smaller sites, let's call them mexicanfood.com, indianfood.com, italianfood.com etc food.com is on its own separate dedicated server the 10 smaller sites are all on a shared IP in hostgator I don't want Google to think that I have created the 10 sites for only purpose of creating links to each other. So, would you recommend that all those 10 sites link to each other? or should there be no interlinking within those 10 same IP domains? What about linking from those 10 sites to my main site? How should I structure my own backlinks not to get penalized by Google ?

Links per Site vs. Domain Authority
Here's a quaint one: 1. Posting follow links on another site helps increase one's domain authority. 2. If I post to the same site/forum with followed links each week, would my domain authority reap a domain authority increase benefit? In short, is there any domain authority benefit to continually post links to a site to which I've already posted a follow link?
