Is there a way to easily add "domain:" in front of an entire list of domains you want to disavow?
-
I'm submitting some disavow reports for clients. As most of you likely know you can either disavow a URL or a domain. So, to disavow a url, you would enter into the text file:
http://www.example.com/this_page.html
and to disavow the entire domain you would enter:
domain:example.com
I find that in most cases you would want to disavow the domain. For example, if there is a backlink on www.exampledirectory.com/health/page24/, by the time Google goes to disavow that link it may be on page 25.
However, it is super time consuming to take my list of urls from a spreadsheet and type, "domain:" in front and also remove the http://www.
Is there a way this can be done programatically?

Great! I'll let you know how it works out. It'll be a couple of days before I'm done the current link audit so I'll report back after that.

Aw, thanks. Hopefully I can figure this out. But if not, I'll be in touch.

You should be able to use the concatenate formula in the same way except I am not sure if the $ will behave in the same way. Try it and see

I'm on a Mac as well Marie but have MS Excel so can't help you on the others I'm afraid.
However, if you get stuck, you are more than welcome to mail me the spreadsheet and I will do the find and replace for you, then mail it back again.

Thanks so much Andy and James! I really should invest some time in learning more about spreadsheets!
I work from a Mac...do you know if I can do the same thing either on Google Docs or on Numbers?
-
Hi Marie,
Quite easily actually...
In MS Excel, all you have to do is move your list of domains to column B and in column A enter domain: once say in this case in cell A2
Then in column C enter this formula =CONCATENATE($A$2,B2)
You should then be able to drag down in the usual way to replicate the formula. It will retain the A2 cell but change B each time and you'll get a list of domain:http://exampledomain.com in column C.
Andy (above) has explained how to do the other part of your question.
Let me know if you have any problems.
All the best,
James

Just do a find and replace in Excel...
Find http://www
Replace with domain:
Then hit "replace all" - It will go off and do them all for you.

How to make Form Type Links have "Nofollow" attributes
Hello guys, in doing an analysis of our website using SEMRush, we discovered that there are Form Type links from some of the business websites connected to our website with follow attributes. SEMRush has identified them as toxic backlinks. What is the proper HTML code structure for setting Form Type links with nofollow attributes?

Changing domain names... Bad idea?
We are re-doing a clients e-commerce website. Before I had entered them on SEO moz we had decided to change their domain name to one with a keyword inside. I had not known that they had an online marketing company previous working for them. They have a domain authority of 42 right now. It would be a horrible idea to switch their domain right? I looked at some of the links, they all have a variety of good anchor text. But alot of the links are coming from sites or directory categories that are not relative. We are also planning on doing 301 re-directs for the links. But this will not transfer the domain authority to the new domain right? Any thoughts?

Best Way To Set Up Link Structure
I have set up each page on my site to be a landing page as it were . Employing a couple of concepts one of which being that I do not want the user to browse away from the page to a page that has no contact form on it . I would in fact prefer as most landing page companies seem to agree that the user stay on the page where they land and contact me through the form . I currently have a page called my domain/links that displays a superfish Joomla menu that I have not styled or done anything with really because I only use it to access the pages while editing and have no real intention of a user Actually finding the page . I intend on eventually deleting it . Most of the pages on the site are directed towards geographical cities in the surrounding area . The pages are not duplicate content obviously but they are all speaking pretty much the same message to my audience . Hey this company does electrical work in your town . I have no problem with putting a text link menu at the bottom of the page before the footer with all of the pages on the site . However this being a content management site I could simply put this at the bottom of every page . Should I do this ? Or should I put this only on the home page and then have all the other pages link back to the homepage . Or should I do a hybrid of this and put them all on the home page and then on the other pages put Four or five links to different services that we do such as recessed lighting , under cabinet lighting , get a quote . Pages such as this that I actually want the user to possibly browse to Such as in a traditional website model . I am a firm believer that keeping the person on this page Leads to higher conversions . However visually speaking the opportunity to fill out the form is there on every page . There are many things to consider so I would like a few professional opinions . Thanks ! PS Merchant circle has been getting some negative press lately . I have a blog there that has a great page ranking . Previously I was copying a version of my text links and posting it at the bottom of my blogs . Is merchant circle still in good staining and a good bet for links ? opinions comments thank you !

How would one get on the Huff Po's "Around the Web" list?
On the huffington post they often have lists of links related to the article, near the bottom just before the comments. This section, when present, is called "Around the Web". See this as an example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-bacon-phd-ma-ma/health-at-every-size_b_1314339.html Do the article authors choose these links, or are they auto-generated somehow? I had a relatively small competitor appear here, so I'm wondering if there are any tricks to gett included. Thanks! Edited to add hyperlink

Linking to root domain or specific sub-site
Hello, When optimizing for multiple keywords, should I try to get links back to the root domain of the company I work with, or would it be better to link back to sub-sites specific to the keyword I am optimizing for? Does 'getting the root up' help all keywords I work with? Cheers, Mike
