Major drop in visitor numbers?
-
Hi I have been working on the following site www.espares.co.nz - it is a parts location service . We have just done a massive redesign and addressed some major issues with duplicate content - which is a work in progress. What I am wondering is have we overlooked something as there has been a sudden drop off on the site visitors since 25 September with a drop of nearly 30% of organic search visits? Would appreciate feedback.

Dana is correct - you need to ride the wave a little while Google looks at all of the changes and then recalculates where you should be.
Something else, how have you been dealing with the duplicated content? If a change in content on landing pages has happened, it could be worth using CrazyEgg and looking at a heatmap of those pages to see where people are the most active. Can be a real eye-opener!
Really need to know more about how the changes were made before we can look at other possible reasons.
Andy

i checked your domain authority which is very less. you might have to do make some quality links to our site again to get back the trust of Google and increase domain authority.

Hi Dana,
We thought it was our analytics configuration however we did the SEOMoz crawl and that highlighted the same issues. Thanks for the other comments though it is worth checking those basics too.

My first inclination is to say "be patient" and ride out the dip. I have never seen a complete site overhaul that didn't experience a dip in traffic. Next, I would say "Are your ducks in a row?"
What I mean by that is:
- Have you set up appropriate 301 redirects if any of your URLs were re-written?
- Are those 301 working properly (did you test them)?
- If no 301 redirects, did you implement canonical tags?
- Are you actively monitoring Google Webmaster Tools? Are you acting on those reports?
- Have you created and resubmitted a new sitemap to Google?
- Did you reinstall analytics or are you using different analytics? It could be that your analytics have changed more than your traffic (This is a big one....really consider this carefully).
If the answer is yes to all of the above. Be patient. I know it's hard, but don't freak out and sit tight. You should be fine after a little time.
Dana

Homepage has dropped out of search results
As of 9/12, my homepage has dropped out of the SERPs. If you google my business name (Sumy Designs) it shows other pages in my site, my Facebook page, etc, but not the homepage. My sitelinks are gone too. It IS still indexed, which you can see if you do site:sumydesigns.com I had been ranking for about 15 keywords that have all been lost since my homepage has disappeared. Here's what I know: There are no manual actions. The homepage is still being indexed, it's just not showing up for any keywords, even my brand Nothing has changed in terms of content, I have been a near daily blogger for several years There's no indication of a problem in search console The drop only appears to be affecting desktop searches, mobile search it still shows up which seems pretty weird. I would love any ideas as to what could be causing this disappearance.

Is it bad for seo to have a large number of external links opening in modal windows?
I've got a job board that pulls in feeds from various job sites and recruiters. Rather than losing visitors exiting my site, I thought I was being clever by opening all external links in modal windows, so the user can 'click to close' and effectively stay on my site. I'm now starting to think this may potentially have been a bad move for SEO. Is there any evidence to suggest this? Simon

What should I do with a large number of 'pages not found'?
One of my client sites lists millions of products and 100s or 1000s are de-listed from their inventory each month and removed from the site (no longer for sale). What is the best way to handle these pages/URLs from an SEO perspective? There is no place to use a 301. 1. Should we implement 404s for each one and put up with the growing number of 'pages not found' shown in Webmaster Tools? 2. Should we add them to the Robots.txt file? 3. Should we add 'nofollow' into all these pages? Or is there a better solution? Would love some help with this!

Drop in Domain Authority and MozTrust -> -20% in traffic?
Hello Everybody,
Technical SEO | | uMoR
with the latest seomoz index update for OSE my website had a big drop in Domain Authority and MozTrust and at the same time a drop in SEO traffic. It seems to be a correlation between the drop in the Seomoz metric and SEO traffic, infact from the 9th of August we lost the 20% of traffic (the 2nd of august our DA and MT was normal, the 15th Seomoz show the drop). Unfortunately it seems that this trend is valid only for my website and not because of a Seomoz index error: my competitor still have the same DA and MT. I will check for sure if, with the next index update, there will be some change in DA or MT, anyway which are your suggestion? How can I know what has happened to my link profile and the cause of this big change? Advice are welcome!0 -
Sudden SERP drop?
I'm wondering why my mainpage of my site just disappeared from google while a post from my site ranks at #11 on google. I currently only have 1 .edu backlink to it and the anchor text is my url site : http://www.domain.c0m What is the meaning of this? I checked my on page optimization and I got an A. The only problem I saw with my site was keyword stuffing on the homepage because my posts contain the keyword and its listed 26 times on the homepage but that shouldn't be the problem.

Panda and unnatural links caused ranking drop
Hi I have been approached to do some SEO work for a site that has been hit badly by the latest panda update 3.3, they have also had a warning in their Google webmaster tools account saying they had unnatural looking links to their site, they received this in 26 Feb and that prompted them to stop working with their excising seo company and look for a new one. Apparently their rankings for the keywords they were targeting have dropped dramatically, but it looks like just those they were actively building back links for, other phrases do not look affected. Before I take them on I want to be clear that it is possible to help them reclaim their rankings? I have checked the site and the on-page seo is good, the site build is good, just a few errors to fix but the links that have been built by the seo company are low quality with a lot of spun articles and the same anchor text so I see what the Google webmaster tools message is refuring to. I do not think these links can be removed as there is no contact details on the sites I checked I have not checked all of them but a random sample does not show promise, they are from low authority domains. So if I am to take them on as a client and help them to regain their previous rankings what is the best strategy? Obviously they want results yesterday and from our phone call they would rather someone else did the work than them, so my initial response of add some better quality content that others in your industry would link to as a reference did not go down well, to be fair I think it is a time issue there are only 3 people in the company and they are not technical at all. Thanks for your help Sean

What are the SEOmoz-suggested best practices for limiting the number of 301 redirects for a given site?
I've read some vague warnings of potential problems with having a long list of 301 redirects within an htaccess file. If this is a problem, could you provide any guidance on how much is too much? And if there is a problem associated with this, what is that problem exactly?
