Google+ - Is it worth it?
-
I've been looking at putting some of my companies on Google+ but I've just done some quick research and it doesn't seem like many of our competitors or even any in our industry is on there.
I have heard that by having a Google+ presence it will help your organic search ranking. However, I'm not sure how true this is.
Is it worth setting up a Google+ page if it's likely that you're not going to get much activity on it?
-
Hi Brian, yes indeed it is worth it. But don't just take our word for it, take the word of many others in the industry:
Use it to increase traffic: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/google-author-photos. I built my profile for this express purpose. Authorship is important too and you need a Google+ profile to hook things together. Danny Sullivan provides examples where Google+ is pushed over the other social networks.
How to take advantage of Google+: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/tips-to-use-google-for-seo.
There are too many reasons to do it and not one reason not to (IMO).

I would engage with your user base on as many (feasible) social channels as possible. Depending on your user demographics (and products you offer), you might find that Pinterest works in some instances better due to the largely female audience.
It is really difficult to get Google+ engagement but your audience is more loyal than Facebook.

Hi Brian
I think if you read your question again "I've just done some quick research and it doesn't seem like many of our competitors or even any in our industry is on there." why would you not go for it? Zag whilst everyone else is zigging.

Hi Brian,
Yes, Google+ is a bit of a must if for no other reason than to share a bit of your website content and get Google seeing you on the radar more readily.
It can most definitely help your results in the SERPs. Do a search and see photos of people next to their articles / pages, and this is Google+ and Authorship at work.
Depending on how you view it, very much a necessary evil that is only going to continue to grow in importance to any SEO you plan on doing.
Something for you to try - search for "Links Google want to see" and you will see my article at the top of the page. This took less than 2 hours to start to appear in the SERPs.
Not too shabby by any standards
Andy

Authorship and Google +
I've got 14 affiliate websites with plenty of original content on each. When I set up Google + last year I of course had the page in my name and then went on to set up separate pages for each site. Actually one page is related to 8 different sites related to golf but broken down by club type. I also have a Wordpress plugin which presents my author bio on my about page for each site. I've filled out all the pertinent information on each Google + page with unique data. OK, when I write a review or blog topic and post it to Google + am I getting the rel = author juice from the sub pages as if I post it to my main profile page? Posting to my Don Bistrow page vs. my golf page?

SEO difference between having a Google+ Brand and Google+ Business page?
Functionally the Google+ Brand and Business pages seem to be exactly the same, but does having one or the other have an effect on SEO? Is it better to have both?

Why is Google+ so confusing?
I have to update my data in 3 separate place is there anyway to just update one area and it filters into all required places. I have a 1)Google+ places page 2)Google+ profile page, what I would expect others to use for my business 3)Google+ page seems to be the one I should be using for my business? Anyone seen a good guide on Google+ ?

For better SEO I understand I should be using Google+, but under what identity?
It appears one way to rank more highly is by using Google+. But should I start to build a community myself or as my company? I have a good Twitter following under my own name, which links to my company page and a facebook page (for my business). I much prefer to be a face on social media than hide behing a logo, but am faced with a dilemma and not sure where to begin: Will Google recognise the relationship between me and my business if I set up an account under my own name? Primarily it's my business I want to promote, so from an seo perspective it seems should I use Google+ as my business, but I really dislike 'corporate' social media?

Does a 301 redirect pass along Google +1's from the old url to the new one?
When I 301 redirect a page that has content that has been +1'ed by our visitors, I would assume that Google would handle a +1 the same as a link and pass this authority along to the new url. Has anyone had any experience or heard directly from Google confirming this behavior?
