Can't see why been marked 'Avoid Keyword Stuffing'
-
Hi SEOmoz!
I'm a newbie, first post, here goes...
Working my way through On-Page Report Cards.
Noticed this page http://www.vintageheirloom.com/vintage-chanel/vintage-chanel-bags flagged with 'Avoid Keyword Stuffing in Document'.
Keyword is 'Vintage Chanel bags' and there is just one instance of it on this particular category page??
Any ideas?
Any general pointers for me on www.vintageheirloom.com would also be much appreciated.
Thanks SEOmozzers...

Hi Donford
Many thanks for taking the time for your comprehensive suggestions.
Your spot on with adding 'Why buy from us' on each product page. Sometimes you need another perspective, seems blindingly obvious now...
I'm using OpenCart CMS so adding similar products is a whizz - thanks...
And again great suggestion re dynamically adding 'Vintage...' to just products, I'll need to throw that over to the community but nice suggestion.
Cheers...

Couple good points there.
First on your ranking on google.co.uk, that is great! I verified the ranking for you and did find that google is ranking http://www.vintageheirloom.com/chanel-bags as 1 for that keyword, which is a page that currently doesn't exist on your site (possible it did) and this is google's cached result.
Second on the long tail keywords. I completely agree with the logic if it ain't broke...
In case it does become broke..
Just remember long tail keywords are generally easier to target so simply using the long tail keywords a couple times in the product description maybe sufficient. Also it maybe possible to use them only on the product page and not the listing pages. I know I've had to come up with solutions like this for oscommerce, so I'm sure your CMS would allow you to as well. (Logic, if on product page, echo "Vintage" + $product_name)A couple final suggestions for the site...
1. When a product is sold, it would super convenient for the user who lands on a sold product page to have a quick link to similar products.
2. Your 100% authentic guarantee (I found it on the Why Buy From Us page) should be very easy to find on each product page. I know cost is relative, but before I drop several hundred dollars I want to be sure I'm going to get what I think I'm paying for.Anyway the site looks nice, and and the keyword stuffing warning is just a notice.

Thanks Donford
Although I've got a Grade C page optimisation score, I've just checked and in the UK our site appears on page 1 rank 1 for Vintage Chanel bags (Google) which did surprise me somewhat.
Our products are transient, staying around for 2-6 weeks on average. Each item is unique, so no real time to build links to products / page authority etc. So I think your right to mention concentrating on the category SEO rather than the products (especially for us).
But... if I search for a more long tail term 'vintage chanel pink shoulder bag' we also appear page 1, rank 1, so I feel a bit like 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
The link to previous discussions isn't specifically about Ecommerce sites. I've checked a few competitors and they use 'Vintage' too, not that this means it is correct.
However I'm always open to change, my gut (not factual) feeling is that dropping Vintage from products would affect adversely the longer tailed search mentioned 'vintage chanel pink shoulder bag'.

Hello Wellits1lounder,
Recently another use had a very similar question. Some of us posted some helpful information there.
Specifically, I did not see an over use of the keyword Vintage Chanel Bags.
However, you should pay attention to your product names and how they will effect category and listing pages. I mention this because "Vintage Chanel" is used extensively on the page you listed. Mostly, this is due the product names. Those names are great for eBay listings, but maybe not for a website. Hierarchical structure would assume that anybody searching for Vintage Chanel Bags on a search engine you would want them to find your category page, not your final product page as those products then are competing with each other for that keyword. This is just a thought, you will need to be the judge of the flow of your website and keyword usage.
I hope this helps you
Edit: must have been typing while you were responding.

Hi Donald
Thanks for speedy response.
Yes you're right, I can see the repetition of phrase 'Vintage Chanel', report is a little misleading. These mostly come from the product names all prefixed with 'Vintage Chanel...'
Feel a bit stuck with the idea of removing 'Vintage Chanel...' from the titles of products though, seems a legitimate phrase and valid if I want to SEO for this phrase. But I'm happy if I'm wrong...
Thanks...

If you look at the keyword 'Vintage Chanel,' the term appears very frequently on the page. You have to remember to see the page as crawlers see it. View the source and do a search and find on that keyword. Or examine it in Webmaster Tools. You'll find that it appears very frequently, in copy as well as in alt text, titles, urls, etc. Hope that helps!

Avoid Keyword Dilution
Hi
On-Page Optimization | | ulefos
I am struggling with keyword dilution, and I don't understand what I need to do to change.I have read it but don't get it. This is the explanation - You want to target each keyword with a single page on your site, so modify the anchor text of this link so it is not an exact match. The only thing that I see is the title and the anchor text the same and the image alt also the same is that what the problem is here is the page I am trying to sort out for the keyword kiln dried logs.
Thank you0 -
PDF's - Dupe Content
Hi I have some pdfs linked to from a page with little content. Hence thinking best to extract the copy from the pdf and have on-page as body text, and the pdf will still be linked too. Will this count as dupe content ? Or is it best to use a pdf plugin so page opens pdf automatically and hence gives page content that way ? Cheers Dan

Will "internal 301s" have any effect on page rank or the way in which an SE see's our site interlinking?
We've been forced (for scalability) to completely restructure our website in terms of setting out a hierarchy. For example - the old structure : country / city / city area Where we had about 3500 nicely interlinked pages for relevant things like taxis, hotels, apartments etc in that city : We needed to change the structure to be : country / region / area / city / cityarea So as patr of the change we put in place lots of 301s for the permanent movement of pages to the new structure and then we tried to actually change the physical on-page links too. Unfortunately we have left a good 600 or 700 links that point to the old pages, but are picked up by the 301 redirect on page, so we're slowly going through them to ensure the links go to the new location directly (not via the 301). So my question is (sorry for long waffle) : Whilst it must surely be "best practice" for all on-page links to go directly to the 'right' page, are we harming our own interlinking and even 'page rank' by being tardy in working through them manually? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Keyword usage in eCommerce Sites - Danger of keyword stuffing?
Hi all, I'm having a little difficulty deciding the best approach for selecting my product titles as I've encountered a few issues. I understand how important it is to try and use the keyword in your product titles, but about the category page that lists all of these products? One of category pages, for example, has 16 products on it. Each has the product title followed by the keyword. I have also used the keyword in the category title, URL, breadcrumbs and two or 3 times (because it was natural) in a paragraph that describes the category etc. Due to the little amount of text on the page, and the sheer amount of times that the keyword is being used, it looks like I am keyword stuffing (By Moz On Page Report Card). I think it came to 23 uses of the same keyword altogether. This is the pretty much teh same throughout every category page on my site, and think I was penalised by Google for this reason. I'm a relatively new site and have done everything by the book as far as I know, so everything is pointing at this to be the cause of the drop/disappearance in ranking. How do I rectify this problem? It's important for the products to have the keyword in, right? As this is one of the SEO practices that is given more weight when considering rankings. I have thought a potential way around this, which is to split the keyword between an exact match, and a variant of the keyword in the titles - only very slightly though. So my product titles would look like 'Product A Exact Match Keyword', 'Product B Variant on Keyword' etc. Could this work? Can anybody advise on the best thing I could try? I have attached an image to give you an idea of the layout of my category pages - Apologies in advance about my embarrassingly rubbish photoshop skills! I wasn't able to upload directly, so I have attached a link. Thanks for reading, John 4iIkmSx

Keyword canibalization
Hi all, as part of the optimization process i've used the same keyword in two different pages of my site (the "home" page and another page") 'cause I had only four criteria (keywords) selected for my business model and six pages so I had to redistributed it in diferent pages. This keyowrd especifically is suited for two pages of the website. The thing is that it could result in keyword canibalization as two pages are competing for the same keyword and may Google penalize the site. ¿How could I solve the problem? I can use only these four criteria according the the business model of the company. In case the pages are indexed and something has been changed how must i proceed? Thanks.

Home Page Keyword Retargeting
Hi Guys! I have a question regarding the risk of **re-targeting **your homepage to another **keyword. ** To give a little background: I am working on a clients site that targets a keyword we initially thought during the keyword research phase, would be an appropriate target. What we found out is that it is not. Everything in analytics points to this keyword not performing well. We now want to re target the homepage to another keyword target. My questions are: How risky is it to do this given we have already done a fair amount of link building to the home page with anchor text from the initial keyword target? Will this look suspicious to google? What sort of things should we consider before moving forward with this change?
