Multiple domain names with similar content
-
Hi, we've got multiple domains that point to the same website and same content. The only difference is the currency and some text, you could say only about 5% difference in each domain's content:
http://www.redwrappings.com.au/
http://www.redwrappings.com/Will Google penalise us for having 95% similar content for each domain (they sell the same products but in different currencies)?
We shoudn't really put canonical link, should we? Because 5% of the content is different, which means they are not identical. What would be the best solution if this is a problem?
Thanks

Hi Alan,
Thanks for that. We do want to boost the rank on one domain compared to other domains, so i think this is the way to go.
Cheers

Hi Graham,
In my experience cannonical content issues can arise with content that is only 50% similar. The strange thing is that in other cases I've had content that is 99.9% similar that hasn't been flagged by search engines.
There is a trick for identifiying the possiblity for duplicate content issues. It's outlined in this video series.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9AfEfTFgzM&feature=player_embedded
There are three parts to the video, and I must admit it is quite cheesy but the information is solid.

I don't believe it's a penalty, but seems a lot of people have this same question. Google: "There's no such thing as a "duplicate content penalty." At least, not in the way most people mean when they say that."
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/demystifying-duplicate-content-penalty.html
If I remember correct Rand Fishkin says in this webinar that it's gonna hurt, but you may want to watch it to be 100%! I remember it being sometime after 40-50% of the webinar I think. http://www.seomoz.org/dp/pro-webinar-october-2010-with-rand-fishkin
Good luck!

yes it will be seen as duplicate,
yes i would use rel=canonical so that the one site is getting ranked, but then your other sites wont rank so well.
you could 301 redirect them all to the same site then do somthing iun the code to present the 5% of changes to the correct users.
but then you have the pproblem of .com not ranking as well as .com.au in Australia.
if you want to keep the .com and the .com.au then you really need to make sites that are differentunless you can afford to maintain 2 vastly diffeernt sites, and can afford 2 SEO campains, i would 301 redirect to the one url. if you have links pointing to both domains then doing a 301 redirect will assign all link juice to one site, you may see a boost in the search engines.

Moving Shopify from a Sub Domain to the Full Domain
Apologies if this has been asked before. Currently we have a Shopify shop on a subdomain shop.lucybee.com a blog on subdomain blog.lucybee.com and the full domain of course. We'd now like to move everything onto Shopify on the full domain. Therefore the blog rolls into Shopify. We'll manually move pages into Shopify. Any advice or links to resources on how to manage would be gratefully received. Thank you , Jim

Forwarding a .org domain to a .com domain: any negative impact to consider?
Hello! I have a question I've been unable to find a clear answer to. My client's primary domain is a .com with a satisfactorily high DA. My client owns the .org version of its domain (which has a very low DA, I suppose due to inactivity) but has never forwarded it on. For branding/visibility/traffic reasons, I'd like to recommend they set up the .org domain to forward to the .com domain, but I wanted to ask a few questions first: 1. Does forwarding low-value DA domains to high-value DA domains have any negative authority/SEO impact? 2. If the .org domain was to be forwarded, am I correct that an SSL cert is not necessary for it if the .com domain has an SSL cert? Thanks in advance!

Adding content into an iframe
I want to buy an app/program that will help me create unique content but the content will be inserted to the page via an iframe. I have heard that iframes are problematic. I know that there will not be a lot of indexable content from this but I think that it will make people want to link to me. I would like to hear from someone's experience if I should go ahead or not.

Multiple domain SEO strategy
Hi Mozzers I'm an AM at a web dev. We're building a new site for a client who sells paint to different markets: Paint for boats Paint for construction industry Paint for, well you get the idea! Would we be better off setting up separate domains - boatpaintxxx.com, housepaintxxx.com, etc - and treat each as a searate microsites for standalone SEO activity or have them as individual pages/sub doms from a single domain - paints4all.com or something? From what i've read today, including the excellent Beginners Guide - I'm guessing there's no definitive answer! Feedback appreciated! Thanks.

Is it better for our Blog to be blog.domain.tld or domain.tld/blog ?
I'd dread the answer being the latter rather than the former as we've spent two years building it blog.domain... However I noticed SEOmoz are domian.tld/blog and it got me thinking.... Cheers. R.
