No follow link
-
Hi There,
We pay for our site (www.residentialland.com) to appear on a popular property site:
http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/
When I use Open Site Explorer, it is our top link, but it has 'no follow' above it.
So I had a look at the source code on the homesandproperty website and I cant see any nofollow code that would effect our link. I also used this tool which confirmed it isnt classed as a no follow link: http://www.seorankings.com/tools/nofollow-link-checker
Can anyone else tell me if our paid for link on homesandproperty is a no follow, or if it is 'search engine friendly' so to speak?
We pay for links across their site, so we want to get the full benefit.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Rob

At the time it was indexed it may have been a nofollow link? It is hard to say since our index is so massive. If it shows up as a nofollow link in the next index you may want to reach out to them to verify though.

Hi Rob-
This doesn't answer your question, but it goes along with the topic. Google recommends that all paid links are nofollowed. If the link wasn't nofollowed, you would be going against their best practices and perhaps put your site at risk of penalty. (unlikely to happen unless you have multiple bad/paid links)
Perhaps it is best to leave it as a nofollow, and just use the link on the popular site for branding and referral traffic.

You might want to have an Excel (or shared Google Doc) documenting incoming/inbound links, whether they are followed or no-followed (using manual verification) then showing the domain authority of the linking root domain and the anchor text used on that link.
I use a similar technique when performing manual link building. In Excel I can sort / filter the table to show how many backlinks I have used for specific anchor text and that allows me to see if I'm using a particular phrase too much or too little.
I know this isn't specifically answering your question but I hope this helps in making your SEO efforts a bit easier

That is a mystery and something I personally cannot advise on. It may be that the tool is showing incorrect data?
I know for a fact that the SEO Moz dashboard (where it shows errors, warnings etc) can be incorrect in what it shows. I've had tools that have shown 404 links (that I verified and they were broken) but SEO Moz failed to report them.
Whether this is because the error was fixed before the weekly crawl was done, I don't know but I never rely solely on one tool alone and this has helped find and fix a number of errors in the past.

Thanks for that Ben, any idea why the link is seen as a no follow by Open Site Explorer then? Seems strange...

As far as I can see the homepage link is followed, there is no rel="" attribute on the link and the only JavaScript is the onclick="" to open it in a new window.
I've looked through their javascript files in the header and footer and I cannot see any JavaScript that is adding no-follow to the link so I think its safe to say that the link in in-fact followed.
In terms of it being a "search engine friendly" link, I would say that it is, however using JavaScript to load the link in a new window seems a bit overkill. They could have used a rel="external follow" and added Javascript to add 'taget="_blank" to all links with a rel attribute of external.

All ranked pages on Googles SERP only links to home
I got a problem regarding my website called musik.dk, and hope you guys are able to help. I just got my first ranking results from Moz. My question is: All my keywords are linking to the home page, and not the artist page? For examples if I were to search on Rihanna on Google, then when musik.dk appears on the SERP, it only links to the home, and not musik.dk/rihanna.. This problem applies to all the given artists ranked on Googles SERP, it never shows the artist page itself, only links to home. Let me know if you need any information, and I gladly supply, this is kind of frustrating to me.. As a note: all pages besides the home has a PA of 1, and it doesn't really seem to change. Automatically Check List of Sites For Links To Specific Domain
Hi all, Can anyone recommend a tool that will allow me to put in a list of about 200 domains that are then checked for a link back to a specific domain? I know I can do various link searches and use Google site: command on a site by site basis, but it would be much quicker if there was a tool that could take the list of domains I am expecting a link on and then find if that link exists and if so on what page etc. Hope this makes sense otherwise I have to spend a day doing it by hand - not fun! Thanks,

How bad are poor link profiles for a website?
A client has recently switched to us for their SEO and is hugely concerned about their previous company's link building efforts. They say that they have recently removed over 300 links but OSE still lists 160 links. So three questions: How long will it take for OSE to recognise if the links have been removed? How great could the effects of this be on the site's rankings? If we continue to struggle with getting the links removed would Google's disavow tool make much of a difference or are there negatives that sould be considered first?

No follow links also been reported in SEOmoz crawl diagnostics
Hi, Why does SEOmoz reports links which has been marked as 'nofollow'. I am getting 'Overly-Dynamic URL' reports on links which I have designated as nofollow which means Google will discount them. So why does SEOmoz still report them. Thanks.

Duplicate pages with canonical links still show as errors
On our CMS, there are duplicate pages such as /news, /news/, /news?page=1, /news/?page=1. From an SEO perspective, I'm not too worried, because I guess Google is pretty capable of sorting this out, but to be on the safe side, I've added canonical links. /news itself has no link, but all the other variants have links to "/news". (And if you go wild and add a bunch of random meaningless parameters, creating /news/?page=1&jim=jam&foo=bar&this=that, we will laugh at you and generate a canonical link back to "/news". We're clever like that.) So far so good. And everything appears to work fine. But SEOMoz is still flagging up errors about duplicate titles and duplicate content. If you click in, you'll see a "Note" on each error, showing that SEOMoz has found the canonical link. So SEOMoz knows the duplication isn't a problem, as we're using canonical links exactly the way they're supposed to be used, and yet is still flagging it as an error. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just a bug in SEOMoz?

SEOMoz Link Analysis Not Updating?
Hi there, I am wondering why the Link Analysis in SEOMoz takes so long to recognise new back-links. I have had the same figures showing for months when I know that I have added a lot more backlinks that are showing in my Google WebMaster account and I have also proven exist by searching directly in Google's search engine. How often does the Link Analysis section update itself? Are these figures worth following at all or are they useless? Thanks!

Inbound Links Report Problem
While looking over my competitors inbound link report, they have a reported 5K inbound links. The first 20 listed inbound domains are things like UPS, and other sites that when I look at them, and the source file has no link to their domain at all??? So are they using some kind of Black Hat technique, or is SEOMoz not reporting properly? Help please.
