SEO Tools for Content Audit
-
Hi i'm looking for a tool which can do a full content audit for a site for instance -
Find pages which:
• Lack text content.
• Finds pages with lengthy meta descriptions
• Finds missing H1 tags or multiple H1 tags .
• Duplicate meta descriptions.
• Find images with no alt text
Are there any tools besides the ones on SEMOZ which can enable me to do a full content audit on factors like these.
Or any SEO audit tools out there which you can recommend.
Cheers,
Mark

Agreed; I take SF over Xenu any day.

All of these are great options.
If I can add a great chrome extension is "Web Developer" by Chris Pendrick. It doesn't do everything you want, but it can gives you a few easy to use SEO tricks right in your browser.

I'm a huge fan of using things like screaming frog to get a lot of raw information, and then pushing them through something like link detective (or the links extension for excel) to get data on all the pages.
Screaming frog will give you some valuable info like
- title length
- meta description length
- h1-h6 info
- Meta Keywords info (basically to know if anything is there so you can remove them)
- Duplicate meta descs. titles etc
It's also free for less than 500 URIs
Hope this helps
Zach

I would suggest SEOmoz Crawl Report tool for this. It has got wealth of options to get all the details that you need regarding lack of content, duplicate pages, duplicate meta data .. give it a go.

Hi Mark,
Can't help you with the "lack text content" but for everything else I'd recommend:
Xenu - Free
A1 Website Analyser - Free 30 Day Trial
Screaming Frog - £99/year

As a bonus when doing a content audit for a site, I'd recommend CheckDog - it's not free but a spell checker for your entire site is invaluable.

Onsite SEO vs Offsite SEO
Hey I know the importance of both onsite & offsite, primarily with regard to outreach/content/social. One thing I am trying to determine at the moment, is how much do I invest in offsite. My current focus is to improve our onpage content on product pages, which is taking some time as we have a small team. But I also know our backlinks need to improve. I'm just struggling on where to spend my time. Finish the onsite stuff by section first, or try to do a bit of both onsite/offsite at the same time?

Hypothetical SEO Question
I am running a website for a law firm. It has been running for many, many years and has plenty of backlinks and authority. I then create a standalone website for a specific type of case that the law firm is handling. On that website, I have a page that copies some of the attorney bio text from the main website. How much of a negative impact will this standalone website have on the main website as far as duplicate content issues are concerned? Please explain your answer in detail. Thank you in advance.

Django and SEO - Multicountry site - Is Django really SEO friendly?
Hi Everyone, Our client is requesting that we use Django for her project. I am really uneasy about this for several reasons. The client wants a multi-country site that is completely SEO friendly. I love Wordpress and if I had to do this project it would be a Wordpress site with WPML + Yoast plugins site. Questions Is Django SEO friendly and what "plugins" should I be using? Is there a multi-country plugin for Django that keeps or adds typical SEO features? Can you recommend any great articles? Any example sites would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks

Can a website be punished by panda if content scrapers have duplicated content?
I've noticed recently that a number of content scrapers are linking to one of our websites and have the duplicate content on their web pages. Can content scrapers affect the original website's ranking? I'm concerned that having duplicated content, even if hosted by scrapers, could be a bad signal to Google. What are the best ways to prevent this happening? I'd really appreciate any help as I can't find the answer online!

Mobile SEO
Hey, In the following article, Google recommended using a 301 redirect but doesn't specify why. http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/making-websites-mobile-friendly.html I assume this is to pass over link equity to the relevant mobile/desktop variation. Can anyone confirm this? Also is there any other reason? Again assuming this would keep the correct URLs in the correct index? Anything else anyone can chip in would be great. Thanks

Blog Duplicate Content
Hi, I have a blog, and like most blogs I have various search options (subject matter, author, archive, etc) which produce the same content via different URLs. Should I implement the rel-canonical tag AND the meta robots tag (noindex, follow) on every page of duplicate blog content, or simply choose one or the other? What's best practice? Thanks Mozzers! Luke
