What would you do with virtually unlimited quality content?
-
Hi All,
We have a site with over 6000 products, several hundred category pages, numerous brand landing pages etc etc.
As part of an ever expanding SEO team we have a number of article/content writers that are writing QUALITY content. Because we are in the cooking/cookware/kitchenware niche, these articles are on a range of subjects. E.g. recipes, how to clean products, getting the best out of products, differences between brands and styles, seasonal trends etc etc.
We currently have a dedicated blog that is a completely different URL to our ecommerce site, a number of smaller blogs that are quite spammy but rank well for certain terms that are all interlinked in a random way (hey, don't hate me), buying guides, all the usual social media accounts etc. We also sponsor a number of quality external cooking blogs that link back to our site when we give them products to review.
My question is, how would you best use this content? We are looking at starting our own blog hosted on our ecommerce domain as well (the one on the other domain is OK, but our new blog will have awesome content).
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Unlimited QUALITY content? That makes me salivate.
Be sure that each new piece of content is going to do at least one if these things: get you out in the SERPs for new keywords, provide information that visitors are interested in, be a magnet for social attention and links.
The cooking niche is enormous. However, I personally would not give one page of QUALITY content those "smaller blogs, buying guides and social media accounts" especially if they are "interlinked in a random way".
I would put all of my energy into building a fortress instead of building a lot of hotdog stands out yonder.

Hi Brad,
I'd love to have all these loads of quality content for our site. However, there is a limit to what you can use to rank. Suppose you move your blog to your ecommerce domain (which I think is a good idea), you suddenly have a lot of pages on this website. Combine this with the 6000 product and category pages you speak about, and you might just have too many pages to rank properly.
With a site this big you need a perfect internal linking structure:
-
If you spread you linkjuice too thin you might see your rankings drop, I've seen that happen before. Make sure that your authority grows along with your content, and that google can keep up indexing everything.
-
See what pages could potentially rank for high volume and competitive terms, and make sure that they get lot's of linkjuice. Longtail is great but you might want to rank for some high volume keywords as well!
Keep up the good work!

Hi Brad, it sounds like you are doing everything right, you can't get much better than quality content. My question for you is: If you have the quality domains, blog and articles do you even need the "Spammy" blogs? I would do away with the spammy blogs and rather add the a blog of quality content to your e-commerce site. This will add value to your primary e-commerce domain.

When writing content, is it good to reference wikipedia for some definitions?
Example...we write a unique article about the materials used in our products, giving a more in depth insight into the types of metals and minerals used in the products. Such articles are aimed at a small number of customers that ask more detailed questions about some of our material. In explaining some of these materials, we reference, and credit for, classifications used from the definitions given in wikipedia. The rest of article is ours and unique. Is getting these links from an authority such as wikipedia a good idea? Thank you.

Building my Portfolio of 70 MicroNiche Sites (10-15 Pages of Content)
Hello Moz Community, I just bought 70 new domains in the past month in different niches with exact match domains, installing these sites on 2 different hostgator servers, installing all the plugins needed etc. and start publishing first 10 articles on each site. ( the keyword research was done with long tail pro and choosing the best long tails with MOZ difficulty grader that is under 40-45.) My question is the following: If I will have some of these sites that will don’t rank in Google in the next 3-6 months for the main keyword without building links…what will be the best course/method/resources I need to know about building quality backlinks and having the time to do these tasks on each website to be sure that every site will be a winner, or even 50-70% of them in both traffic & money ROI !?! I want to have a minimum of 10 sites that will make around 150$ per month because my Intention is to sell these sites on flippa for higher multiples of 15-20 monthly revenue. ( I sold my first website on flippa in September for 1650$ and is awesome. I want to repeat this success at a higher level ) Thank you ! I built niche sites since February 2012 but in terms of building backlinks to microniche sites I didn’t do too many things in the past when is about backlinking (just submitting in directories) so I ask about the experience of this community. Which are the best methods to build links in 2013 J Best regards, Sebastian Papp & His Team

Content Marketing - Getting Webmaster to Link to Article
Hello, We're doing a niche article and we want to do a link building campaign around it. I'm not as interested in being linked to in resource sections - that will happen - but my question is for other links. What types of links am I looking for, is it guest posts - is that the best? If so, how do convince them to allow a guest post around an article? Thanks.

Great Content
Hello fellow Mozzers! I'm still new to the SEO game and have been doing lots of reading and research about SEO. From what I've learned nowadays it all comes down to great content and links that come from it. I have to admit I'm a visual learner, I need to see it to understand and learn better. I was hoping that someone can provide some examples of GREAT Content (whether its a blog post, page, article, etc...) I know EGOL is one of the most valuabe SEOMoz users and by reading his forum responses he always advises to write great content to build links... Hoping EGOL and other SEOMoz users would be so kind to share an example or two of what they think is great content. One more question (related). Since all the Google updates this year in regards to links and content, I've read numerous times on this Q&A forum that great content gets links, and that submitting articles to directories or buying links doesn't work anymore or at least not something that a whitehat SEO should implement for a long term strategy, does that mean that if you publish great content on your site that is informative, unique and valuable it will get you links without submitting to directories or buying links? Is it really that simple? Thank you in advance! Igor

Yesterday, I have started my internal blog and want to add all content which I have submitted to different external websites. So, Can I do it or not? I have confusion about duplication between my site and external websites.

Quality Article written, but on many sites.. Duplicate issue?
As part of a re-design of our site including the integration of our previously separate blog, we are using some of our quality articles regarding our industry to get backlinks to our site. Fortunately in our niche industry it is possible to find many out-dated articles, broken links, and just low-quality article content. So my question is.. if we have one article that would potentially allow us to get not just backlinks, but that actual article copied in full onto the other site, are there concerns about duplicate content and the link being useless? --Should I be changing the article a bit every time? --Should I ask them to only copy the first few sentences and link back to us to read more? - Other options? Cheers all
