Links are still showing in Opensite explorer?
-
I did some link building for some friends last year, since then our relationship has changed & I removed the links I created. It's been 2 months & the links still show up in Open site explorer, & their website is still kicking butt. How long will it take for the links to be unassigned for their profile?

Thanks.
And just to clear things up, I'm not a SEO. I did some free work for some friends of mine, we are not friends anymore, & so I removed the links from my websites to theirs.

Hi Kristopher,
Good question on link indexing.
For the sake of helping you out and the sanity of the SEOMOZ community, I'll pretend I didn't read you removed the links because of the change in relationship
Open Site Explorer updates about every month. However it's not a full update, as it can't recrawl every page on the Internet each time. So when these stop showing will depend on how important Open Site Explorer thinks to page is. If it was less important it won't get crawled for a while.
RE: The rankings. Google will most likely find the links have been removed first. The only way to confirm this is with having access to Google Webmasters for that domain. However I wouldn't sweat it, if no SEO work is being done it won't continue to rank for long.
Hope that helps you understand the link indexing process.
Thanks

Effects of a bad link linking to a image
i am getting a lot of links from wallpapers sites.. One person has created 1000's of similar sites that are linking back to my images. My guess is images do not pass link value positive or negative. But I am not sure what the potential effects would be. Does anyone know who linking to images might effect SEO especially when there coming from horribly low quality auto generated sites.

Self linking
There are 10 links on page that point to this page where they exist (link to the page itself). Does it influence on ranking?

Manual Links Vs. Smart Links
Hey Everybody, Is there any downside to the smart link plugins that I see all over wordpress? Basically in short I enter a keyword and where I want that link to go (primarily internal) and set the parameters of repetition etc and it automatically adds the link to that. Now other than the obvious situation where it might put a link in an awkward place, is there anything wrong with this sort of software? Part of me things that this sort of software would not be liked by Google, and that it isn't really getting counted as a true link, but i wanted to see if there were other thoughts or experience with this.

What is a good ratio of total links to linking root domains?
Is 100 total links for every linking domain too high? I suppose I could also look at ratios of sites that are doing well in the rankings.

Bearshare links?
I am doing competitor link research and so far 4 of the 4 have had links from search.bearshare.net What kind of site is this? I am sure it isn't valuable but I can't figure out how it is getting crawled.

Why are reciprocal links still being used widely?
Looking at my competitors backlink profiles they all seem to have lots or reciprocal links and banner exchanges etc... I thought that only one way links really had any value. The reciprocal links they do have appear to be pretty spammy but the sites are still ranking well? Should I be adopting reciprocal links and banner exchanges. I know these strategies worked years ago but surely not in 2012?

Link Building: Asking for links versus building links
I am currently delving into link building for SEO having started out from a social media marketing side. From that angle, it was always my belief building high quality links came from engaging targeted bloggers and sites in my market and related verticals for product reviews and/or providing expert advise and opinion for posts they are creating. As I am learning more the "technical" side of SEO, I've read a lot of posters on here talk about asking from links from websites. While I get the concept from a strategic stand point, are links really asking for or is better to continue to pursue the long term investment of pitching to get coverage from well known bloggers and sites?
