Is Best of the Web a good directory to pay to be listed on?
-
We are currently paying to have a listing in the directory Best of the Web. Should I be paying to renew our listing in this directory?

Hello,
For Me, you can answer well to your question. My question is that have you noticed any drop in traffic and other changes for which you're thinking about this bakclink? I suggest you to renew your listing on that directory as this is well known directory and Google still not intimated on directory submission. They have against only one thing LOW QUALITY / SPAM CONTENT.

Hi
Great question. I was pondering on the same question for a few months and decided from what I've read on different sites to give it a go (often read BOTW helps trustrank). BOTW is a manual processed directory that looks for quality and relevane. In terms og Google this should be a good thing.
We have the link up now (look for iValue). The page sits on a PA 1 (for now) but DA 85! These figures make me believe it will be of value to our authority. Opensiteexplorer isn't showing the link yet but Google newest links (via Google Webmaster Links). So Google picked it up.
Our site is doing quite well lately but we've put a lot of effort in other fields so it's hard to say how strong this link adds. I think of it this way: "How much time should I invest to get a link from a DA 85 domain (knowing that linking domains strongly correlates to rankings)?" Probably a few hours So $ 149 was worth the investment to me. Future will tell how much exactly.
Hope this helps.

_I do not think so. But if your website is getting some visitors from this directory, then you may renew the listing and of course I do believe that Google do not take into account this paid listing kinda thing. So, it is your choice. _

Surely this cannot be a good SEO technique?
I have a client whose competitor has great positions in Google, and a quick look at the meta data revealed this (I removed the company name): I'd love some opinions on this. My gut feel tells me this is spammy. But all my client sees is that this site is on page 1! ~Caro

Are directory listings still appropriate in 2013? Aren't they old-style SEO and Penguin-worthy?
We have been reviewing our off-page SEO strategy for clients and as part of that process, we are looking at a number of superb info-graphics on the subject. I see that some of current ones still list "Directories" as being part of their off-page strategy. Aren't these directories mainly there for link-building purposes and provide Users no real benefit? I don't think I've ever seen a directory that I would use, apart for SEO research. Surely Google's Penguin algorithm would see directories in the same way and give them less value, or even penalise websites that use them to try to boost page rank? If I were to list my websites on directories it wouldn't be to share my lovely content with people that use directories to find great sites, it would be to sneakily build page rank. Am I missing the point? Thanks

How to know if a link in a directory will be good for my site?
Hi! Some time ago, a friend of my added our site to a directory. I did not notice it until today, when in the search results for my domain name, the directory came in the first page, in the four position. My friend wrote a nice article, describing our bussiness, and the page has a doFollow link. Looking at the metrics of that directory, I found the following: Domain Authority: 70; main page authority: 76; linking domain roots: 1383; total links: 94663 (several anchor texts); facebook shares: 26; facebook likes: 14; tweets: 20; Google +1: 15. The directory accept a free article about a company, does not review it before it is published, but look for duplicated articles representing spam; so one company can only have one listing (in theory). Is there any formula to know if a directory is safe to publish a doFollow link? If they don't review the link I would say is not a good signal, but is there any other factors to take into account?

Using an auto directory submission
Has anyone used easysubmits.com and what's your experience with it? Any other directory submission or link building tools that help automate and manage the process like easysubmits.com says they can do? I'm just looking at it currenlty and wanted to hear others thoughts before I get taken in by some black hat method that hurts my websites instead.
