Do backlinks take effect as soon as they are crawled?
-
i have got 3 really good backlinks to a site of mine in the last month, however they have had no obvious effect yet.
they are dofollow, all from county council websites, and I can see the backlinks in webmaster tools.
does this mean that their seo affect has already been applied?
-
YES, we have a methodology that yields results both on the short and long terms.
Nothing has really changed for us since those updates as we already had very cautious linkbuilding strategies done 100% manually, the hard way!
-
have you seen quick results recently? i.e. notable improvements in just a week or two. especially since the panda / emd / penguin updates?
-
That's a very common pattern in the SEO area
Just keep building quality links knowing that a portion of them will probably never be of any use, but you cannot guess proactively which ones!
-
There are links that i built that showed me results the same week and others that I still don't know what happened with them months later
-
You never really know when a link's effect has been applied, you don't even know if it has been applied.
In fact, a link's effect can be "your rankings were maintened (no change) thanks to that link that helped keep up with your competitors' linkbuilding strategies"
The website giving you the link could also evolve prositively (or negatively) and you won't see an effect until many months later.

Adding Quality Backlinks
Without sounding like an idiot, what are the best ways in adding good quality back links. There are websites out there such as Click Submit but from experience they just link from weird URL's and the links are in comments. In an ideal world starting up my own Blogs and building up a good domain authority would work best but the customer would like some back links adding by next week. Using local directories wouldn't really work for their business so if anyone has any idea's I would love to hear them.

"Bad" backlinks
Hello dear community, I am new here and quite new to SEO. Perhaps someone could give me a hint on a following question: Which tools can help me to track "bad" baclinks, e. g. links which would rather downgrade my SEO performance?

Backlinks from SEOMOZ
Hi all It seems Google has stepped up the "hunt" for overly SEOed websites. What about having backlinks from SEOMOZ, would that signal to Google that you are involved in SEO and therefor it might hurt your site? Anyone? Thanks in advance Fredrik Ardmar

Can bad backlinks harm your website?
Hi, This has been discussed to death over the web on many forums, some discussions are even very heated arguing both sides. So... from what I have read on seomoz the answer to this question is... YES. And if one was so inclined to build bad backlinks to a competitor it would have a negative effect. Agree?

Free Classified Backlinks & Google
Is there a risk that Google will de-index your site or lower your ranking if you have too many backlinks from free classifed sites? I would just use 1 free ad per classified website. Thanks.

Is there a tool that can take all your backlinks and categorise them into categories?
I am looking for a tool that can go through my site (and others) and categorise the backlinks into categories... such as Directory, Blog Comment, Social, Forum etc? To help you understand the backlink mix? Is there this functionality out there?

Can You Rank Without Backlinking?
With all the new emphasis on on-page metrics and social metrics, would it be possible to rank well without putting much emphasis on backlinking if your content is significantly better than the rest of the ranking pages? Say #1 to #5 are pages of 500 word generic content. We come in with 2,000 word specific, high-quality content. Can we get by without spending as much time/energy on backlinking? Would the on-page factors make up for it, or has the game not changed that much?
