Mobile Site on Google Analytics
-
Hi mozzers,
We just launched a mobile site and I was wondering what are the main steps to follow for gettting your mobile site tracked via GA (m.example.com)?
We have a profile for www.example.com
- GATC: javascript or PHP to install?
- Should the profile be on a subdomain?
- What else to consider when implementing a mobile site on GA?
Thanks
-
Not that I'm aware of. The tracking code should be installed the same as it would be on a non-mobile site.
-
Thanks Benjamin for your answer
So I can go ahead and install the javascript GATC on mobile.
Do you know if Google has provided some sort of documentation regarding mobile setup on GA?
Thanks

Oh, and one other thing I just thought of. I would pay extra attention to the Site Speed metrics (Content > Site Speed) as mobile sites obviously are prone to greater issue with slow load times.

Hi Taysir,
For #1, you can just used the JavaScript GATC. The vast majority of all smartphones run JavaScript.
For #2, if you are directing all mobile traffic to the mobile subdomain (the m.example.com), and that subdomain is a site built specifically for mobile, I would recommend creating a new Google Analytics property for it (meaning a new UA code).
For #3:
- Make sure you're aware of all the metrics available by default in the Audience > Mobile section of GA.
- It would be worth setting up Advanced Segments for the specific devices that the majority of your mobile users are using. For example, if you setup an Advanced Segment for iPhone users, you'll be able to see what your bounce rate is just for iPhone users, etc. If metrics for a specific device are significantly worse than most others, that's a good sign that your site might not be rendering well on that device.

Two of Four Google Analytics Views Not Showing Data
Question for you MOZ friends: We added two new views about a week ago, the same views that we have added for more than 50 Accounts, and they are not showing any data. The views are for 'Filtered Traffic' (no IPs or spam) and 'Organic Only' including only the organic medium. Any ideas why this may not be working? First time we've come across this and couldn't find much help researching it... Thanks as always! street%20ga_zpsorfdnemi.png

How long does Google Analytics credit a source?
I was under the impression that GA credits the source with a conversion if it is the source for the current session but it seems that if the user returns later that the source may still be credited. Is this the case? How long does GA credit a source?

Keeping Google Analytics Data when Moving to Subdomain
Hey All, Against my objections a client has decided to move an existing site into a subdomain while putting up a new site on the main domain. My question revolves around Google Analytics, how do I make sure that I don't lose historical data on the domain before it moves to a subdomain? We're going to be doing a redesign of the old site and I need to keep the historical data so I can prioritize content. What do I need to do? Or will Google analytics recognize the URL's and still attribute the data to those URL's or will I have a separate set of data based on the new URL (with the subdomain). Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

How to track what people type on my text boxes on Google Analytics?
Hi there! In our website, we have a few text boxes that users need to use to complete the goal. The boxes aren't search boxes, but it's still important to us to track what people type on it. I'm looking for a way to track the data through the "event" feature in Google Analytics, but it seems that this tracker can only calculate clicks, or video views etc. Does anyone knows how to track do it?

Tracking Required Form Fields in Google Analytics
I tried searching for this elsewhere but am having a hard time finding a good answer. Is it possible to track the effect of required form fields on conversions in Google Analytics? In other words, how do I track whether or not more/less people fill out a form if I make "Last Name" a required field? Thanks 🙂

Strange increase in Direct traffic in Google analytics
For past 2 weeks, several of our sites have strange increase in direct traffic in Google Analytics. we also have another tracking code, and in this account we don't have any big changes, so this is very strange what is happening. We didn't changed any codes, and none of the changes were done to application. Any ideas why this is happening? z7ME9.jpg
