Is my SEO consultant doing blackhat tactic?
-
Hi, Can someone tell me what my SEO consultant is doing? I have engaged a SEO company in Singapore for my site: Http://www.rollerblinds.com.sg The thing is for the 1st 2 months, it is ranking well but for the next 4 months it is out of google. I noticed my links are on some strange article site. Is he doing blackhat tactic, I have been paying monthly for many months now with no result. Shall I continue to pay and how can I recover?

It appears that your website has got penalized by Google Penguin update [link penalty]
http://www.seroundtable.com/google-penguin-3-15802.htmlBut as Google Search quality team has already made it clear that there is no manual action taken on your website, I can safely assume that your website has got penalized by algo shuffle.
_So, there is no point in sending reconsideration request to Google. Try to get all the unnatural and spammy links removed. Send link removal request to those crappy websites. If you have log in access of those sites, you can do that as well. If you have removed most of them, you then can use Google Webmaster Tools Disavow Link option. _
_And about reliable seo company. Whoever is saying that you can top ranking in two months or so for $100, is trying to fleece you. _

Hi Sandip,
We have sent reconsider mail to Google but they replied:
Dear site owner or webmaster of http://www.rollerblinds.com.sg/,
We received a request from a site owner to reconsider http://www.rollerblinds.com.sg/ for compliance with Google's Webmaster Guidelines. We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google. There's no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.
Of course, there may be other issues with your site that affect your site's ranking. Google's computers determine the order of our search results using a series of formulas known as algorithms. We make hundreds of changes to our search algorithms each year, and we employ more than 200 different signals when ranking pages. As our algorithms change and as the web (including your site) changes, some fluctuation in ranking can happen as we make updates to present the best results to our users.
If you've experienced a change in ranking which you suspect may be more than a simple algorithm change, there are other things you may want to investigate as possible causes, such as a major change to your site's content, content management system, or server architecture. For example, a site may not rank well if your server stops serving pages to Googlebot, or if you've changed the URLs for a large portion of your site's pages. This article has a list of other potential reasons your site may not be doing well in search.
If you're still unable to resolve your issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.
Sincerely,
Google Search Quality TeamMy ranking dropped since 6th Oct 2012.
I have emailed my SEO consultant and request to stop the service.Anyone has got good ethical SEO company to recommend?

Well the quality of the links is pathetic and I would not surprise if your website get penalized by Google for unnatural link building. Tell me one thing, don't your existing SEO company send you monthly report of what they are doing? What I fear is that they are building links with exact matched anchor texts and this is under Google's radar for quite sometime.
If not, you should ask them to send all the details immediately. You need to get all these links down.
Check your webmaster tools account and let us know if you get any message there. Also let us know when the ranking drop.
-
Yes, i believed so.
I am just afraid i would be wasting my time adding fresh new articles on that website.I am still paying him every month.
Can anyone advice what i could do next?
-
Those links definitely look like they could be in blackhat territory. It looks like either paid links or possibly some kind of blog network. The links are also all exact match anchor text. Do you know when your traffic took a hit? You may have been hit by the Penguin algorithm.

Hi chanel27,
I just checked to see if your site is indexed in Google and it is. The easy way to check this yourself is to go to Google and in the search bar type site:http://www.rollerblinds.com.sg When I do that I get 17 results. If your site had been removed from Google there would be zero results for that query.
Now, when I take a look at your link profile in ahrefs.com I see that your link profile is making good progress. I can't see the same kind of historical progress in other tools, but I did check some of the article submission sites that your SEO seems to be using to see if perhaps they had been de-indexed by Google, and they haven't been.
Is your site new? Sometimes, when a new site comes out of the gate, it experiences a bit of an artificial bump in ranking before settiling into a lower position.
I don't see any evidence of black hat SEO here. Although, I would caution you from relying on artificial blogging and submitting to article directories and expecting that to produce results. To some extent, this can still work, but if it's working now, it very may well not be working in a few months. I would have a frank discussion with your SEO consultant and tell them you are concerned about the quality, not the quantity of your backlinks. Also, think about complimentary businesses whom might make good possible link partners for you, make a list of them and give them to your SEO.
From what I can see, your SEO is doing a competent job. Hope that's reassuring!
Dana

Hiding Elements on Mobile. Will this effect SEO.
Hey guys and gals, I am hiding elements with @media sizes on the mobile experience for this site. http://prepacademyschools.org/ My question is when hiding elements from mobile, will this have a negative effect on rankings for mobile and or desktop? Right now it is a hero banner and testimonial. My interest is because I feel responsive is now working against conversions when it comes to mobile because desktop typically has the same info several times where mobile it can be repetitive and only needed once. Thanks,

Active, Old Large site with SEO issues... Fix or Rebuild?
Looking for opinions and guidance here. Would sincerely appreciate help. I started a site long, long ago (1996 to be exact) focused on travel in the US. The site did very well in the search results up until panda as I built it off templates using public databases to fill in the blanks where I didn't have curated content. The site currently indexes around 310,000 pages. I haven't been actively working on the site for years and while user content has kept things somewhat current, I am jumping back into this site as it provides income for my parents (who are retired). My questions is this. Will it be easier to track through all my issues and repair, or rebuild as a new site so I can insure everything is in order with today's SEO? and bonus points for this answer ... how do you handle 301 redirects for thousands of incoming links 😕 Some info to help: CURRENTLY DA is in the low 40s some pages still rank on first page of SERPs (long-tail mainly) urls are dynamic (I have built multiple versions through the years and the last major overhaul was prior to CMS popularity for this size of site) domain is short (4 letters) but not really what I want at this point Lots of original content, but oddly that content has been copied by other sites through the years WHAT I WANT TO DO get into a CMS so that anyone can add/curate content without needing tech knowledge change to a more relevant domain (I have a different vision) remove old, boilerplate content, but keep original

Recovering from Black Hat/Negative SEO with a twist
Hey everyone, This is a first for me, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced a similar situation and if so, what the best course of action was for you. Scenario In the process of designing a new site for a client, we discovered that his previous site, although having decent page rank and traffic had been hacked. The site was built on Wordpress so it's likely there was a vulnerability somewhere that allowed someone to create loads of dynamic pages; www.domain.com/?id=102, ?id=103, ?id=104 and so on. These dynamic pages ended up being malware with a trojan horse our servers recognized and subsequently blocked access to. We have since helped them remedy the vulnerability and remove the malware that was creating these crappy dynamic pages. Another automated program appears to have been recently blasting spam links (mostly comment spam and directory links) to these dynamically created pages at an incredibly rapid rate, and is still actively doing so. Right now we're looking at a small business website with a touch over 500k low-quality spammy links pointing to malware pages from the previously compromised site. Important: As of right now, there's been no manual penalty on the site, nor has a "This Site May Have Been Compromised" marker in the organic search results for the site. We were able to discover this before things got too bad for them. Next Steps? The concern is that when the Penguin refresh occurs, Google is going to notice all these garbage links pointing to those malware pages and then potentially slap a penalty on the site. The main questions I have are: Should we report this proactively to the web spam team using the guidelines here? (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport?hl=en&pli=1) Should we request a malware review as recommended within the same guidelines, keeping in mind the site hasn't been given a 'hacked' snippet in the search results? (https://support.google.com/webmasters/topic/4598410?hl=en&ref_topic=4596795) Is submitting a massive disavow links file right now, including the 490k-something domains, the only way we can escape the wrath of Google when these links are discovered? Is it too hopeful to imagine their algorithm will detect the negative-SEO nature of these links and not give them any credit? Would love some input or examples from anyone who can help, thanks in advance!

Is linking out to different websites with the same C-Block IP bad for SEO?
Many SEOs state that getting (too many) links from the same C-Block IP is bad practice and should be avoided. Is this also applicable if one website links out to different websites with the same C-Block IP? Thus, website A, B and C (on the same server) link to website D (different server) could be seen as spam but is this the same when website D links to website A, B and C?

Negative SEO impacting client rankings - How to combat negative linking?
I have a client which have been losing rankings for the key term "sell gold" in Google AU. However, while doing some investigating I realized that we have been receiving links from bad neighborhoods such as porn, bogus .edu sites as well as some pharmaceutical sites. We have identified this as negative SEO and have moved forward to disavow the links in Google. However, I would like to know what other measures can be taken to combat this type of negative SEO linking? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Could this be negative SEO?
Hi, I've attached a copy of our Google ranking for one of our keywords for our site and a competitor. Also shown is the number of external links over time for the same 2 sites. There seems to be a striking resemblance between the 2 sites so could this be the result of negative SEO? What's the best way to determine whether you've been targeted for negative SEO? Thanks, site-analysis.jpg

Ever seen a black hat SEO hack this sneaky?
A friend pointed out to me that a University site had been hacked and used to gain top Google rankings. But it was cloaked so that most users wouldn't notice the hack. Only Googlebot and visitors from Google SERPs for the spam keywords would see a hacked version. See http://www.rypmarketing.com/blog/122-how-hackers-gained-an-easy-1-google-ranking-using-a-university-website.whtml (my blog) for screenshot and specifics. I've dealt with hacks before, but nothing this evil and sneaky. Ever seen anything like this? This is not our client, but was just curious if others had seen a hack like this before.
