New to SEO
-
Hi, I'm new to SEO and was wondering if I could get some pointers on how to earn back links for a relatively new site. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot Dana, that's really great advice!

I'd recommend spending the money (if you can) to get listed in the Yahoo directory, joeant.com and business.com - Then, make sure you have your business listing/citations done. Go to http://www.getlisted.org and make sure all of your business listings are in order, accurate, complete, etc. Then I would recommend searching for blogs in your niche and going around and getting involved in those blogs. Read the posts, comment, get to know the writers, follow them on Twitter etc. Lastly, start a blog yourself and stick to it and show people that you know your business.
Lastly, do a press release to announce the launch of your new business. I'm not a big fan of press releases unless they really are about news....and launching a new business is quite news-worhty so I would go for it. Use a press release company that has something to do with your business if you can. A lot of people don't realize that there are lots of different press release services out there, not just PRWeb. For example, one of the companies I do SEO for is a Christian company so we use ChristianNewswire.com instead of PRWeb.com and it's been great. Search for press releases companies working in your niche. You might be surprised what you find.
There you go. That's a start. I hope it helps!

Which SEO tactic should I concentrate on first?
Hi All, I'm a freelancer specialising in marketing and advertising for small businesses Creative Express and I was wondering what I should concentrate on first in terms of SEO? I know that targeting the right keywords are important, as are backlinks, but also TOS etc. I haven't built up much of any, but the time has come to put in significant effort in SEO. Is there something that I should be putting the most effort in to? Is there a list somewhere that shows priorities? Thanks in advance, Dan

New Google Maps - Does my strategy change?
I am currently in the process of ensuring our 70 locations are accurately portrayed in Google. Does the Google Maps update impact my efforts? My efforts being widespread citations spanning the local ecosystem, G+ optimization via Google Places, and in the future checking Google Map Maker for accuracy.

Hosting All Content Images On Flickr For Blog - What are SEO implications?
Hi, I am starting a travel blog and thought of the idea of hosting all the content images over at Flickr and just calling them into my blog content when needed. Benefits: push traffic over to my Flickr account pull traffic from Flickr to my blog However, I was just wondering about any SEO implications of having 3-4 links per post pointing to Flickr. Is this spammy? Will I lose my juice? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Local SEO... use 800 # or local, use full-street name or abbreviation?
Couple local SEO questions... Do you feel it’s better to submit a listing with the full type of street rather than an abbreviation? Google Places sometimes disassociates data because of small differences like this. Below is an example: Full Name: 123 Broadway Street

Abbreviation: 123 Broadway St. Also, I’m wondering if you feel it’s better to submit a local number versus an 800 number. I've modified many local listings for clients manually with an 800 number, but then there are other data sources for these same businesses that are displaying the local number. I am starting to use UBL/LocalEZE and are wondering what people have seen working best... local number or 800 number. Thanks!0 -
