Directory Submissions = Negative?
-
I see that a lot of SEO companies offer a large 5,000 directory submission package with slow, 160 day submissions.
I don't mind spending the money to have this done, but my question is... would they help, or would they actually hurt my rankings? Since a lot of these directories are basically just copies of each other on different domains.
As an added question, would it be worth submitting to all of the general directories on this list? http://www.seomoz.org/directories

But In every new Micro-niche sites like tumblr or pinterest - i have added the Blog url ! like this many sites i added, will it affect ?

Hi JA,
you can TOTALLY damage your site. Rand talks about this in one of his WBF. It sounds like you are very new to internet marketing. you may want to read this: http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo
Anytime you are trying to game the Google algorithm, you risk damaging your site's ranking abilities. OBVIOUSLY 5000 directory submissions is something to game the algorithm. I wouldn't do it.

5,000 directories will more than likely hurt your rankings immediately. If they don't immediately, they will eventually. The best way to think about directories is to ask this question " If this listing passed on no rank juice, would I still want it?" In other words will it pass good traffic? or increase your reputation? If it won't do any of those things, it's probably not worth getting.

Data or Examples of a Negative Impact of Sitewide Links
Hi! Does anyone have any data or examples that show a negative (or positive) impact from "too many" sitewide links? Ahref's tool shows the ratio of sitewide links to non-sitewide links. I have seen a website with 97% sitewide links rank very well in a vertical while a website with 0% sitewide links also ranks very well.

Worth paying for directory listings?
I'm going through the recommended SEO directory list but I notice that most of them are paid listings. I have been told that it is not worth spending any money on this, so why are there so many recommended in this list?

Anyone Still Use Article Directories?
Thinking of phasing this out. Too many spammy links in these. Does anyone still use article websites for 'white hat' SEO? E.g. create a high-quality article, then post it using 'branded' anchor text, e.g. link is the name of the business or URL.

Link Directories - Good or bad?
I've just done a search on open site explorer for a competitors site that has is ranked number one. Most of their highest authority backlinks are from link directories. I just read an article on here saying to stay away from directories that state things like 'seo friendly directory'. Many of my competitors links are from these kind of sites! Will it harm me to get links from such sites? It seems to be working for my competitors.... confused.com!

Doing Local Directories for Online Stores?
I am working with some customers on SEO and wonder what to do about directories when they have an online store only. They do not want to list their home address (if they did would this be a good idea?). I know the big push now is for local directories so I'm wondering if anyone has tips for other types of directories to get into that aren't spammy. Or tips for doing SEO for sites that are online only? I know Rand talked a lot about the importance of being "real" with an about us page, contact us, etc. on his Future of Link Building Webinar and I'm wondering how to best make that work in this situation when they can't show themselves as real by being in local directories.

What percentage of my links should be directory links
I feel a lot of my link building might be a bit heavy on the directory links side. Should I limit the percentage amount of links as a part of my overall link profile? If yes what percentage of links is ok to be directory links?
