Why did we go down 40 slots in rank?
-
Hello,
This site:
nlpca(dot)com
fell 40 slots for the term "NLP", the main term.
We used to be on the second page. Can you guys see why the drop?
Thanks.

I'm hoping for more information here, though Brice helped quite a bit.

Thanks Brice,
I don't see anything in the anchor text profile to indicate that the anchor text term "NLP" is being used for spammy links. There are some low quality links, but wouldn't that effect the terms that those sites use for anchor text?
No other keywords are affected, doesn't that mean it's not the anchor text profile since the low quality sites are using terms for their anchor text that are not affected.
Since our site is about NLP, what's the maximum number of times we should mention this term on the home page (asking for an estimate based on your intuition)

Hi Bob,
Google frequently updates it's algorithms (it is not uncommon for ranks to fluctuate), which could be the cause of the drop. I did check your link profile in Open Site Explorer and it looks like there could be some spammy backlinks not only for your site, but for that specific keyword.
Potential Next Steps:
- I ran your site in GTMetrix, there are some development/redirect items that could be causing problems. CLICK HERE to see the report for your site.
- Audit your backlink profile and see if you can remove any spammy links that are pointing to your site.
- The word "NLP" appears in the code for your homepage 171 times, it may be good to limit that a bit.
- Beyond SEO, it's always good to think about your users first. When I visited your site for the first time, it was hard for me to answer some important questions:
- 1. Why am I on your website and what can you do for me? (Clear Messaging)
- 2. What am I supposed to do on your website? (Clear calls to action).
- 3. Why should I come back to your website (Sticky Content)
- 4. If I like the content on your website, how do I share it with others? (Social Functionality).
Overall, consider having an SEO consultant or agency audit your entire website. Google is cracking down on over-optimized sites, so having a ton of anchor text links from a handful of potentially spammy domains pointing to a page that contains a copious number of the targeted keyword may cause google to raise it's eyebrows (potentially hurting your ranks). Create great, relevant content, and execute natural link building/content strategies to procure those valuable inbound links.
Cheers,
Brice

Why have my rankings dropped?
I have a client who has just seen his average page rank creep up from around 39 to 34 over about two months, then it appears to have dropped back to position 40+ in the space of a week. I believe he's made a lot of changes to targeted keywords, so I'd like to think it's simply because his old targeted keywords are dropping and new keywords still have to build their rankings. But I'm also worried in case he has over-optimised and might get getting penalised. Any advice on where to start digging?

Our web site lost ranking on google a couple of years ago. We have done lots of work on it but still can not improve our search ranking. Can anyone give us some advise
A couple of years ago the ranking on our site dropped over night. I believe someone working here at the time purchased links about that time. We have been doing lots of work on the site since then to improve it. We can not get our rankings back up on google searches. Can anyone give us some advise about what to do or where to go for some help that we can trust.

2 pages ranking for the same term
Hi everyone, I have had two pages ranking on page two of Google for a while now for the same term. I have tried dedicating a page to it but as the other has a url with the search term in Google is ranking both it seems. How can I without deindexing one of the pages help better tell Google which one to rank? I imagine if it only ranked one page I would get a higher result rather than 2 weaker ones? On-site has been done and so has links to the homepage, but the innerpage still ranks also as it has the search term in its url. Would a canonical tag be worth it here? the page is however getting some traffic itself for other terms so I am reluctant to do that. Any help much appreciated.

Why Is This Page Not Ranking?
Hi Mozzers, I can't rank (the page is nowhere on the Google grid that I can find) and I've not been able to move the needle at all on it. The page is http://www.lumber2.com/Western-Saddle-Pads-s/98.htm for keyword "western saddle pads." I'm inclined to think I'm cannabalizing the category with the products so I removed the word saddle from the majority of the product names on page. However, saddle pad or saddle pads is in the meta title for most if not all of the products. Do you think I'm cannabalizing with the product titles or is there something else going on? Thanks for any help.

My brand is not ranking on Android Google SERPs
In the new blog post here, she links to mobilemoxie, a site which allows you to do searches on various different smartphones. I tried a search for my brand, "ixl.com" on an iPhone 4 and a Android phone, the Motorola Droid X. On the iPhone, our brand appears in #1 like normal, but on the Android phone, our result doesn't appear on the first page. Any ideas as to why this would be the case? We're currently developing a mobile version of our site but we don't have one yet. Could that be the issue?

Holiday hijack lowers Google ranking
A client of ours made a mistake that has dropped their Google rankings. They posted a holiday greeting on our homepage for several weeks, and now the search engines are not picking the page up at all. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to repair this?
