Duplicate page title - blogs
-
Hope someone can help me, I am a total SEO noivce so please be gentle.
My first report shows that I have duplicate page titles. I have been through and changed all of these so they are different and after my latest crawl they are still showing as duplicates.
I am wondering if this is because it;s a blog, here is one of the duplicates:

Hope you can help!

Hi Emma,
I believe something might be wrong with the Tool. Although you said you've done so but it doesn't seem to be working. All the title tags for the blog are still the same. Might you be able to switch to use a new tool or contact the webmaster or person that created the website?
-
Cheers Emma, Oh dear, OK, well same same - keen to get this resolved pls do let me know how you go - all the best with it!

Hi
No, I never got to the bottom of this one. I am waiting to see if my site provider can help because the issue is with my blog and duplication. Hope you get sorted out!
-
Hey Emma,
I am having the exact same issue as you + I'm a newbee also. Did you have any luck on this?
I thought that it was because I had the title as the same as h1 text - but apparently this makes no difference.
So pulling my hair out on this one.
I popped over to Google's Webmaster + checked out HTML Improvements + got this: We didn't detect any content issues with your site. As we crawl your site, we check it to detect any potential issues with content on your pages, including duplicate, missing, or problematic title tags or meta descriptions.
But yet the SEOMOZ is telling me that I have a heap of these duplicate page titles... pls let me know if you're worked this one out - I'll be so very grateful!
-
That's really helpful thank you.
The software alows me to change the 'title tag' which I have done so all blog posts are different but this does not seem to alter the 'title?!
One for the developers I think...

Hi Emma, I visited the link you provided and I think noticed the duplicate title tag. When I clicked on the link you provided, the title tag for that pge is "Handmade Soap Blog | Cottage Soap Company" and then I click on the page 5 (different article), it has the same title tag. Then I clicked on page 8 (different article), it also have the same title tag. So I believe those are the duplicate the reports are showing. Furthermore, to deeper research on this, you can visit your Webmaster Tools and check out the Optimization tab >>> HTML Improvements and it should show all your duplicate pages. You can click on the link and see which page it is. Hope this helps!

Have you drilled down to see which ones they are claiming are duplicated? I'm guessing that it probably is blog articles that you've written.
As you've got a create.net site, it's pretty difficult to control (if not impossible) because you'll never get within an inch of any of the code to be able to effect any necessary changes.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I believe it's to do with the pagination and the page being crawled when its on a different page - maybe someone else can offer an explanation on that.
If you go onto the create.net forums one of their own tech's might be able to provide a better answer.
The problem you get is that the content also gets duplicated, not just the page titles.
My only advice is to see what Create can do about it and if you aren't getting anywhere, consider moving to a wordpress site and getting your own website. It's probably cheaper in the long run as I know that create is about a tenner a month. The more control you have over your site, the better it will be for your SEO.
Lots of create sites do rank very well though when well optimised, so it's not all bad.

Duplicate Content and Other Issues from Blog Tags and Categories
I have recently taken over the maintenance/redesign of our website and after setting up Moz I see many errors:
On-Page Optimization | | jgoethert
Duplicate content
Missing descriptions
Duplicate titles
etc. All are related to blog categories and tags. My questions are: are these errors hurting us? Should I simply remove tags/categories from the sitemaps or bite the bullet and create content for every single category page? Our site is https://financiallysimple.com/ and we are using Yoast plugin in Wordpress (if that helps)2 -
Page title contents
In my page title, I have my product name. Is it beneficial to also include another keyword like: Buy wedding dress online Australia: e..g. (page title) amelie wedding dress | buy wedding dress online Australia. Or is it better just using: Amelie wedding dress

SVG image files causing multiple title tags on page - SEO issue?
Does anyone have any experience with SVG image files and on-page SEO? A client is using them and it seems they use the title tag in the same way a regular image (JPG/PNG) would use an image ALT tag. I'm concerned that search engines will see the multiple title tags on the page and that this will cause SEO issues. Regular crawlers like Moz flag it as a second title tag, however it's outside the header and in a SVG wrap so the crawlers really should understand that this is a SVG title rather than a second page title. But is this the case? If anyone has experience with this, I'd love to hear about it.

Why don't all my pages have On Page Optimization Reports
Apologies if this question has been asked a million times, but I can't find it. I have 35 pages, yet only 5 of them have generated On Page Optimization Reports. I know I can create them manually, but wondered if I've done something incorrectly? Iain.

Issue: Duplicate Page Title
When you are in Error status for Duplicate Page Titles - but it is because of the root domain: Example.com and Example.com/index How to you go about changing the title of the same page without looking un-natural. My client has built his site with the - index file pulling to the root - but the crawlers are seeing TWO separate pages - when in reality they are the same. Riddle me this batman?

Blog page outranks static page for KW -- why?
Blog page ranks 10 in Google, while the static page is on page 7. What makes it more interesting is that the blog page scores an "F" with the Term Target tool while the static page scores an "A". Static page has more inbound links and a mR/mT of 3.89/ 4.54 vs. 3.71/ 4.14 for the blog page. Any ideas on how to approach this one?

Crawl Diagnostics - Duplicate Content and Duplicate Page Title Errors
I am getting a lot of duplicate content and duplicate page title errors from my crawl analysis. I using volusion and it looks like the photo gallery is causing the duplicate content errors. both are sitting at 231, this shows I have done something wrong... Example URL: Duplicate Page Content http://www.racquetsource.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=001.KA601 Duplicate Page Title http://www.racquetsource.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=001.KA601 Would anyone know how to properly disallow this? Would this be as simple as a robots.txt entry or something a little more involved within volusion? Any help is appreicated. Cheers Geoff B. (a.k.a) newbie.

Page title = h1, or slight variation of it?
I recently found a new SEO tool http://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/search-engine-optimisation/ It is fast, and has found some site tweaks I need to make. There is a free demo version that crawls up to 500 URIs. I recommend you check it out (I'm not affiliated). One of the conditions it checks for is if your page <title>is exactly equal to your <h1> tag. The fact that they flag it makes me wonder if that's something I should avoid (?).</p> <p>When I googled it I found a variety of opinions. When I looked at Rand's excellent piece on the perfectly optimized page http://www.seomoz.org/blog/perfecting-keyword-targeting-on-page-optimization I notice that the example Page Title and H1 are slightly different. By design, or a happy coincidence?</p> <p>Any opinions on whether I should make my Page Titles slightly different than my H1 tags to avoid the appearance of over optimization, or some other penalty?</p></title>
