Blog on domain or sub-domain
-
Hi,
I am looking to incorporate a blog that currently sits on another domain into my site. I am not sure whether to do this as part of my domain or as a sub-domain e.g.
I can see the benefits from an SEO perspective for both but just wanted some advice on the best way to go.

Thanks Paul. I do agree with a lot of what you have said, however, interestingly enough we created a blog on a separate domain (not even sub-domain, but completely separate) for various reasons late last year - and it already has a PR of 2 (which surprised me).
But we are going to go with the sub-directory

Putting a blog on a subdomain gives you all the disadvantages of it being a separate site, and none of the advantages.
It will still have to work to earn it's rankings on it's own, separate from the prime site, but because the search engines can clearly see it's directly owned by and related to the main site, it's heavily discounted as far as passing ranking influence. In general it also no longer helps as a way to try to earn extra spots in the SERPS for the same keywords.
Plus, as a standalone site, it's going to take quite a while for its pages to earn any authority of their own, so links will have very little influence to pass in the first place.

Thanks Nakul and Daniel.
This was my line of thinking, however I do know that some large blogs use it on a subdomain and although you will not get the SEO value from incoming links to the blog, it is viewed as a separate site so therefore links from the blog to the actual domain would be viewed as external rather than internal links (am I correct in saying this)?
But I think I will go with the subdirectory.

I agree with Dan. I would go with mydomain.com.au/blog
I answered a similar question earlier today.

I hope this helps.

Hey,
I would most definitely run the blog in the folder (mydomain.com.au/blog) over the sub-domain...
Sub-domains are considered a separate site, and therefore offer little SEO benefit between sub-domain variations. That said, it is great for branding and breaking up very distinct elements of a business.
Hope this helps.

Blog Frequency
Hi, We have a new blog, we write 4 blogs per month and have been posting all 4 in one go at the same time per month. Would it be more beneficial to post the blogs 1 per week or does it not matter? Also, is 4 blog 250 word blogs per month enough or should we be doing more? Thanks Andrew

Is the Page Authority/Rank of my corporate site affected by my blog's PA/PR and vice versa?
If I host my blog on my corporate site (it is a wordpress blog) will the page authority and page rank of my site translate to the blog? And does this also go the other way around? My gut says this would make sense, and I think I have seen it in action with other corporate sites that host their wordpress blogs, but I want to be completely sure. Even better, if someone can explain to me how this works, that would be super helpful!

Best places to get pictures for blog posts?
Well I'm really sick of reading people questions saying "help my sites been affected by penguin" So I thought I would ask something about blogging, where is the best place to find and buy pictures for blog posts? I already use Wikimedia commons. But I'm interested websites that have a bigger range that aren't too pricey. What do you recommend?

Why does my lousy little blog Rank number 1 on Google?
Search "Google Places Changes." My Blog, www.salesjumpstart.net/blog is ranked first. Has been for a week. Why? Makes no sense. I have been getting many first page Google results for 3 and 4 word keyword searches. The site or Blog just isn't that strong. http://www.google.com/search?q=Google+places+hchanges&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=uFR&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial&source=hp&q=Google+places+changes&pbx=1&oq=Google+places+changes&aq=f&aqi=g2g-j1g-b1&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=4293l4293l0l4628l1l1l0l0l0l0l271l271l2-1l1l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=661c0b1152c259b4&biw=1024&bih=583

Tagging Your Blog Posts - Useful?
Has anyone demonstrated measurable value from routinely tagging your posts? I am of the mindset that what is good for a user/reader is good for SEO and therefore the posts should be tagged. I wanted to see if anyone else had specific experience to the positive or negative.

Using own domain for Google blog
Is it worth the effort using your own domain for a Google blog? After adding my own domain to a blog I see a boost in ranking, maybe the url has more value without the blogspot extension, or that Google might treat the (max.10) pages you produce under your own domain as "independent" thus giving you the chance of building your own domain trust...?
