Is it wise to conduct a link building campaign to a Google+ Local page?

Is it wise, while doing a link building campaign to not only focus on the main website target page, but also the Google+ Local page?
Here are two strategies I was thinking of using:
1. Conduct a city specific link building campaign to direct traffic to the location specific page on the main website AND the Google+ Local page.
2. Use the main website to direct traffic to each cities specific Google+ Local page.
Does it make sense to drive links to a Google+ Local page? It does to me, but I haven't seen anything written about that yet... or perhaps I've just missed it along the way.
I'd love to hear the communities thoughts.
Thanks!
Doug

Thank you Miriam. It's good to know I'm not alone!

Oleg - This is great. Thanks so much for your reply. This will save me a lot of potentially wasted time.

I agree. There is no reason to help a Google property rank. They'll do just fine doing that on their own. Also, they would be more alerted to "link building" actions to their own properties which could get your site a sterner look. I say, build your own site up.

Now how's that for coincidence? Doug, the post Oleg has linked to was written by Mike Blumenthal after a conversation he and I had about this advice that was being published about linkbuilding to Google Places. So, what you'll see there is Mike's excellent reply to my question!
Good answer, Oleg.

Option 2 all the way.
If you want to rank a local page, check out all the ranking factors compiled by David Mihm. Here is a post by Mike Blumenthal on your exact question. Basically, its a waste of time to build links to your G+ places page.

Google AMP (accelerated mobile pages), can it be used for non-Google news and Ecommerce Websites?
Mozzers, I've been doing a lot of research on Google's new Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/accelerated-mobile-pages-whiteboard-friday. From what I'm seeing, these AMP version websites are only for Google News-worthy websites such as New York Times, Cosmopolitan, and the BuzzFeeds of the world. But what about Ecommerce websites like Ebay or Amazon? Will AMP versions of "scotch tape" via OfficeDepot work in the SERP's on non-Google News cards?

Any benefit to splitting up links from one company to diff pages?
We are the presenting sponsor for this big event in our area (Chasco Fiesta). As part of being their sponsor, their website has linked to us in five different places on their site. But it's all to our homepage. Would there be any benefit to having them link to other pages on our site instead of just our homepage (assuming the other pages are a reasonable expectation for the user, of course)? Thanks, Ruben

Do links count in syndicated content?
If I write a press release that goes viral and is syndicated all over do each of those links to my site in the syndications of the press release count and pass page rank with Google? Or does Google only count the link in the original press release? I heard that Google counts all the links for a time then eventually counts only one link from the original content and discounting all the other links as duplicate content. Any truth to this? Thanks mozzers! Ron10

Should I link to competitors?
Hi, I was wondering: we work in an extremely competitive market. There are 6 companies, offering the same service in my country: price comparison in a niche market. The competitors have hundreds of different websites, using iframe-techniques. Would it be helpful for me to link to those 6 competitors, in a piece of content about our company strategies, USP's and overview of the market? From a transparency point of view, i would prefer telling my visitors there are other competitors, which are undoubtedly performing very well, but we perform better on several aspects of the price comparison. On the other hand, my competitors benefit from the backlinks as well. Is my gain bigger than the gain of my competitors do you think? Has anyone tested this once?

How to show your ratings in the Google SERP
I've noticed that some organic search results are showing ratings just above the meta tag. How are these sites doing this? Example: If you search "cash advance", there is a result between #4 and #6 in the organic results. The site is "goldcashadvance.com". It's showing a 5-star rating in the result.

I am very curious: if i did nothing, my site will turn back? why i kicked in every big update? Simply if you get hit by update, without any act, could your site healed?

Google Update on the 6th July
Hi Mozzers, Has anyone noticed a Google update on the 6th July? A price comparison site I optimise has fallen off the SERPs for most generic terms, however still getting traffic for longer tail phrases. Cheers Aran
