Amazon Links destroyed my rankings, I removed them, will my site recover?
-
Hello,
Last week I got the glorious idea to put amazon affiliate links on my website. I didn't put a rel=nofollow on them or deindex the pages they were on.
Precisely I put some reviews and 10 different amazon links on one page and I put that into my navigation so all inner pages were linking to that page.
When Google crawled my page again, I had a 60% traffic drop.
3 days later when I found out what caused this (amazon links) I completely removed the site containing those links and removed all links to that page from my site.
Now my rankings are still down, will my site recover from this or is it lost? And how long would you think it'll take?

I attached a Graphic to this post so you can understand better.
The Day I added and removed the amazon links fit perfectly when the rankings go down- and up again.
Now what worries me and this is why I made this post: The rankings went down again just 2 days after "recovering" when I removed the links.
Is this still the side-effect of the Amazon links? The site got removed and is returning a 404 error but still most pages in the google cache have a link to that "bad" page.
Or do I have to worry about something else?

Whilst it is likely that the links had a negative effect, it seems unlikely that they would have had such a quick effect. Links via forums aren't the most "natural" of links so I wouldn't advise sticking to that. When you are building links, ask yourself "do the links look natural?" Make sure they fit in with the content of the website and make sure that the website you are linking from has some authority (look when the page was last cached) because if it takes Google months to visit the website then it will be months until your link is cached.
-
It suddenly happened after those links were inserted so I think that was the reason, I didn't do much else during that time, could you name a few things that could cause such drops? I created some forum profiles with my site's link a few weeks ago but I doubt that this caused such a drop.

If you're positive that your drop in rankings were because of these links and you've since undid what you did with those links, you should begin to see your site climbing back up after google crawls your website again.
You can never be sure when Google will crawl your website again so you need to be patient. I would suggest possible updating some of your pages and resubmitting your sitemap to tip them off that they need to come back for another crawl.
I would also be 100% sure that the amazon links are what was killing your rankings before taking any actions. There are several other reasons why you would drop like that.

Spent months creating links but Webmasters not picking it up
Hey Guys, I've been working on Blast My Deals.com an affiliate site which i have an issue hoping you guys can help with. For the past year and a half we created loads of links from multiple domains at-least over 700+ which Webmasters did pick up since then we've created even more links however when we go in to our Search Console "Links to your site" it shows 214 domains. It seems like our old links are being removed and our new links aren't being added. All the links we created have an average of DA40+ For the past 2 weeks ive noticed a significant drop in organic traffic and loosing our positions on our main keywords. Our DA has also dropped from 33 to 29 in a matter of 2 weeks. I checked everything including robots.txt, sitemap.xml but Im unable to find the reason for it.

Looking for a way to crawl and test validity of affiliate links at scale. Ideas?
Hey all, I'm on the hunt for a service that will crawl our affiliate links and let us know when they return an error. I need to know that the last URL in the chain is returning a 200 over thousands of pages and links on a continual basis. The hitch is that most crawlers like Screaming Frog will return all of our links as working because it's only testing the first step, and this really requires a cloud solution anyway. Anyone happen to know of something? Edit for clarity's sake: I need something to check entire redirect chains in bulk that isn't a Wordpress plugin, isn't a website where you plug in a URL and it cuts you off after the first 100 results, and has the ability to crawl the site and provide reporting on a continual basis. SEO expert for site
Hey guys, I am looking for an SEO expert for my website. I have talked to a couple different people, but since I know nothing about it, it is hard for me to get a good read on whether they know what they are talking about or not. The main keywords are in the sports betting industry, which I believe to be a highly competitive space. Any advice, suggestions, or recommendations? Thank you

What is the right way to link to your main site?
Hi, we have a system for tracking the leads that comes from a specific affiliate website. each affiliate has a unique tracking code. not only for affiliates that work with us but also for the SEO team has an affiliate tracking code so our bosses can track the leads and traffic that come from the activity of the SEO team. this means, links towards our website look like: www.mydomain.com/?t_src=campaign&t=AFF&t_cre=links&A=371 www.mydomain.com/?A=371 I have few questions about this: 1. This is the right way to link to my company site? How dose google crawl those link? It's can harm the link value? 2. What is my option to show my boss all the traffic / leads that our seo team brings to the site trough Google Analytics? Hope to get your support. Thanks in advance.

Documentation to back up strategy for satellite sites
Hi, I am planning on launching satellite sites. From my understanding I should have unique IP addresses and a different template than my main site to avoid duplication and separate from the main site. Any good articles I could use as documentation to back up what I am saying? (or if people think I should be doing things differently feel free to pitch in with that as well)

Looking for a nice way to add an amazon affiliate store to my site
We are often asked what our favorite toys, books, resources, etc, are and I want to make a page(s) with our top resources that is a nice clean amazon affiliate store. Are there are good resources anyone knows of to do this? (I'm using a wordpress blog by the way....perhaps there is a plug in?) Thanks.

Yahoo Directory VS other established sites
A fellow SEO consultant and I have been arguing the importance of listing on established well-known directories (Yahoo, DMOZ, etc) these days. He is convinced that the $299 listing on Yahoo is a worthy investment, while I think that advertising on high-ranking niche websites (in the form of purchased listing) are far more useful. When looking at Y!Directory, a lot of the links are placed on pages that have PA of 0 (these are very deep URLs, almost a dozen levels in). Does Yahoo Directory's DA of 100 help offset this low PA score? What if you could get a listing from a highly relevant niche site with a DA of 70+ and PA of 30+ for the same price? Obviously there are other likely benefits to links from relevant sites (such as real customer acquisition) but I would like to know from a pure SEO point of view - are links from directories like Yahoo's still worth the link?

Traffic down on site on regular intervals
Hi, We are running a sort of large affiliate website, with having 2000 web pages. We are having unique content, metas and related on every page. The problem we are facing is we are not gaining traffic constantly. We have some top rankings for sometimes few days, for few weeks and for few months. But suddenly we went few pages behind on serps, we loose all our ranking. After some time it will come again on serps as natural positions. Due to this after year of hard work on content, meta and many more small small issues, we are on the same no. of visitors. Given below are the my site traffic details with attached image. We used SEOMOZ Pro tools to evaluate all the possibilities and errors we are doing, We found lots of bad things happening our site, We started work them on since early January and which achieved the corrections as per the image of crawl diagnosis summary page shown below : we are not having sitemap on our site and having some soft 404s, but we are working towards it. Is there any thing more specific we can do to this kind of problem.. 5AyHO.png yxkEr.png
