Redirect

Some time ago I have created a category which I have deleted later. Now seomoz is showing me that its not found, obviously...what would be the best practice to redirect this category to a page? I know that with 301, but how, can I do it when I deleted that category:-(
-
So, meanwhile I have found out that the Nginx isW3 total cache but I do not understand what is the problem with it:-( why is it redirecting my website content?

Thank you very much Tom,
London is beautiful, I have very nice memories from there and would love some cold rain here for a change:-)
My husband developed that site but has no clue what is wrong and has given up and said me I should deleted it completely:-( I am already 4 months learning SEO in order to fix this site. Funny, I even like to learn it:-) So I will have to help myself. What is the Nginx? were I have it? I guess it is plugin but I do not see it in plugins.

Hi July
Greetings from cold and miserable London!
My best advice now would be to contact the team that helped develop your website and see if they would be able to implement the necessary redirects. Failing that, if you can find a freelancer with extensive experience of working with Nginx, they will be able to help too.

Thank you so much for your reply Tom and sunny greetings from Diani! Yes, it is the website on my profile http://villasdiani.com Nginx? Do I? Oh my got what is that? I was always wondering that there is something wrong going on my website with redirects as I can also see on semoz report this kind of weird redirects:

Hi July
You can still redirect URLs that no longer exist, or have never existed.
If the site you're talking about is the one in your profile, I can see you're running Nginx. It's a bit more tricky to redirect with Nginx then, say, Apache, but it's doable. If you have a dev team to hand, they should be able to implement it for you, but if not, hopefully these links will help:
Link 1 - looking at Nginx's HTTPRewriteModule.
Link 2 - How to set up 301 redirects with Nginx's config file.
Better off starting with link 2 actually, I think it's a guide that will answer all your queries.
Hope these help.

Should I add canonical links to pages that are redirected?
Hello! I am a little confused concerning canonical links. I have several URLs that all access my page, but I redirect them all. A lot of places I am told to redirect them or use canonicals. Other places, I read that I should always use canonicals. What is the right way for me? If I should use canonicals as well as redirects, which links should I do this on? I redirect my pages like this: http to https:

http://example.com -> https://example.com www to non-www:
https://www.example.com -> https://example.com Remove trailing slashes
https://example.com/ -> https://example.com Would-be 404-requests to index.php?p=$1
https://example.com/home -> https://example.com/index.php?p=home ( show as https://example.com/home ) Example:
http://www.example.com/home/ -> http://www.example.com/home/ -> https://example.com/home/ -> https://example.com/home -> https://example.com/index.php?p=home ( shows as https://example.com/home ) Thank you!0 -
301 Redirect to external site
Hi guys, We have a client who is getting their website redesigned through us. They are discontinuing couple of their services which will not get featured in the new site. They are fairly well ranked for these services and my client wishes to 301 redirect these pages to an external site owned by his friend so that they benefit out of the ranking. The question is: Will my client's website's general ranking get affected due to 301 redirecting to an external site? The external site is not spammy or red-flagged by Google (at the moment, at least). Thanks in advance!

How Much Does a Missing www. 301 redirect hurt a business?
We're preparing a report for a potential client, and are trying to figure out a way to estimate rankings gains. One of the major issues is a lack of a 301 redirect for non-www. domains to www. domains. We checked and there's no canonicalization, so it's a clear issue. According to Google, the non-www. links from 8 different domains. The www. version of the website has links from 248 different domains. Nearly all anchor text is branded, as they've never had any SEO work done before. Does anyone have a suggestion for approximating benefits of setting up their .htaccess file correctly? Would the benefits even be that great? We're of course advising additional things, but we just want to be more certain about this step's SEO-boost.

301 Redirect to product page or category?
We manage an ecommerce website that sells health products. A few products have now been discontinued. I’m just wondering what would be the best practice in this case. Should we 301 redirect to a similar product or to a similar category page? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Temporary Redirects
On my crawl report from SEOmoz, I have a lot of Temporary Redirects listed. The referring site is a product category page, but the URL listed is part of a shopping cart. For example: | http://www.adagiowaterfeatures.com/cart.php?action=add&product_id=496 | Tested true for a temporary redirect referred by this url: | http://www.adagiowaterfeatures.com/categories.php?category=Free-Standing-Water-Features/Harmony-River-Collection | Why does this occur and what can I do about it?

What does this mean on first step up setting up a campaign? "Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here."
I am BRAND new to this, and setting up my first campaign. I choose subdomain, and entered www.pdsaz.com. This is the message I receive: We have detected that the domain www.pdsaz.com and the domain pdsaz.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here.

Temp redirects of homepage URLs
Working on a site for a client and the CMS provider has all variants of their domain (.co.uk & .com and / and http:// etc) temp redirecting to the /default.aspx homepage. I know in theory that this means no Google Juice is being passed to the final location page, does this mean that all backlinks that point to their domain are not actually passing Juice onto the homepage? Thanks

301 redirects / clean urls (2)
hello again! 1st i want to thank robert, istvan and everyone else for the great answers to my last question. i guess i should have been a bit more specific with the questionas i am still a bit unclear about a couple of things. i forgot to mention that we actually moved the site several months back and redirected all the "category" pages, but, i wasnt aware that the "product" pages were never redirecte! so my next questions are: at this point is it even worth redirecting those old product pages? if so, should we use the IP address as shown below or the domain as shown below ...i am guessing at the IP address. http://72.3.181.97/catalog/CanineCushionDogCouchBeds.aspx

http://www.k9electronics.com/catalog/CanineCushionDogCouchBeds.aspx also, our old site was never deleted from the server. our ranking / sales dropped off by about 50% when the new site went live so im guessing this can be directly contributed to the products not being redirected / duplicate content from the 2 sites? im also guessing i need to find a new developer ..can i get a vote on that? 😉 <colgroup><col width="856"></colgroup>
