Sitewide links causing problem
-
Hello,
I've had a couple of people look at the backlink profile for
nlpca(dot)com
and tell me that there were a lot of sitewide links with non-branded anchor text.
The spreadsheet is [here](http://thewealthymind.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/anchor-text.xls). Actually, because of our company name, all sitewide links have branded anchor text except for
http://www.iepdoc.nl
http://www.ionut-ciurea.comThe term "NLP" is not ranking for us, we should be on page 1 or 2. Also, we used to be sitelinked for "NLP California" and aren't anymore. Notice that "nlpca" splits into "nlp" and "ca" for California.
Could you look and see if it is just those 2 sites and if all we need to do is contact them to change to branded anchor text.
Or if it's something else to get back our rankings for "NLP" and our sitelinks for "NLP California"
Thank you

Hi Bob,
The first thing I looked for when visiting your site was a big "what is nlp" button, I really had no idea! Maybe google is thinking (or has started thinking) a bit like this for the search term nlp also? With the potential for local results etc mixed in it seems to me that the term could be a bit volitile in terms of rankings and your experience possibly hints at that.
I see the sitelinks you mention if I search for nplcalifornia with no space, but am not well aquainted with these expanded sitelinks and their finer points, maybe someone else?
I would still be wary of messing too much with those site wide links!

Hi Lynn,
Thank you.
We were on the first and second page of Google for the term "NLP" for years and years and only recently did we drop off.
Also, the "NLP California" search used to have us with those spread out sitelinks that took up 2 or 3 spaces.

I don't think changing the link text on those two sites is going to help much to be honest. If anything I would be tempted to try and reduce the amount of sitewide links, there seem to be a few.
A couple of things come to mind.
1. Why should you be ranking for NLP? I am searching from Europe and the first page has some heavy hitters (wikipedia, stanford U), some local(ish) results and a few nlp.something type sites that I guess might be your online competitors?
The term NLP is a bit ambiguous, It could be Neuro-Linguistic Programming, it could be Natural Language Programming (the Standford link) or it could be the NLP Theatre down the road. So if google is going to return results based on what it thinks the user intent is then you have a mix of local and 'what is NLP' type results which seems pretty reasonable.
So with that in mind, I'm not sure your site has enough 'What is NLP' type content to justify ranking on the first page and maybe that is something to consider in terms of adding content.
2. Sitelinks seem to come and go depending on the search term and who knows what else so I wouldn't worry too much if you are not seeing them right now. The good news is that searching for "NLP California" from where I am you are number one, sitelinks and all!

Potential spam websites with high DA linking back to us
Hey everybody, I'm going through all my sites and disavowing crap links. However, I'm having trouble distinguishing which high DA sites to disavow. What would you do? For example:
Moz Pro | | MEllsworth
https://mza.seotoolninja.com/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=busca.starmedia.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score and https://mza.seotoolninja.com/researchtools/ose/spam-analysis?site=cc879fe.activerain.com&target=domain&source=subdomain&page=1&sort=spam_score They both have tons of backlinks - both good and crap. The first has a DA of 72 and a Moz spam score of 4/17 and the second has a DA of 86 and a Moz spam score of 9/171 -
Possible Crawling Problem with Screaming Frog and Moz Crawlers
So I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is a problem or not. As of about two weeks ago the Moz crawler has only been able to see www.mysite.com, and none of the links, content, title, ect associated with the page. Essentially the report has one line, what should be the homepage, but it's not able to pull any information from the page but does show a 200 http status code. The report shows nothing blocked by robots or any errors. When I use screaming frog to crawl the site about 75% of the time it just reports one line www.mysite.com with a 200 status code, but again the crawler is not able to actually see the html. The other 25% of the time it works perfectly fine, crawls all pages and sees all meta info and content. There are no errors in Google WMT and everything looks ok there. We have seen a traffic drop the last two weeks but I don't know if this is the reason for it. I can't publicly post the page but if someone has an idea of what might be going on I'd be happy to PM them. Thanks

Is canonical link enough?
Hi SEOmozers! I have a question. SEOmoz analysis report me some duplicate that I thought I had fix. I can give a concrete example. This page: http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/dec2011training-boston/moreinfo is reported as having 6 duplicated URL in the tool. When I click on 6, SEOMOZ tells me "Our crawl bots are getting their joints greased to fetch you even better data. Sorry for the delay!" And on the page itself, I placed a canonical link to follow recommandation. rel="canonical" href="http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston" /> As a result I am curious why I would have this reported as duplicate by SEOmoz. Is this a bug? Thanks for feedback!

Links from External Sites not Showing on OpenSite or Google Webmaster Tools
Hi, I asked this in another post, but didn't get a solid answer. For several websites I manage, I have access to their Google Webmaster Tools. When I put the site through there, or the link:// or SEOMoz's OpenSite link reporter, I get not even a fraction of the links that I know are pointing to the websites in question. Some of these links are from home pages or side columns, and some are from articles keep within a website, like at Inc.com. I wondered if the links in question were not themselves being indexed, but if I do a very specific search, I can pull them up in the search results. Is it just common knowledge that these link tools are not accurate? And to assume that somehow, search engines really do see all of the inbound links, even if our reporting tools don't. Thanks in advance!

Need a Google Doc That Imports List of Links From SEOMoz API
Does anyone have one they'd like to share. I've seen the great ones by Tom Anthony but I am looking for the list of the first 1000 links that are available as part of the free API to be brought back into a Google Doc.

Toolset Q.) Re. Linkscape - How is the External Links (link juice) calculated in the API?
Re. External Links (link-juice) - I really need to know what this reflects.Ie. linkdiagnosis.com divides the PR by external link factors to get an idea of link juice or power - how does Moz calculate this scoring?

OSE Linking Domains CSV Export Blank?
For some client domains, I've tried to do a CSV export from the OSE Linking Domains page, I get a CSV that contains the typical OSE header text, but no output records. Before I click the CSV link I always choose "show domains with links to All pages on the Root Domain". It doesn't happen with every domain I've tried this with, and when I've had the time/patience, some of the time if I try hours later, I get data. The problem though is I rarely have the luxury of running reports a second time during the audit cycle. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug, or just an export fail due to system resources or something?
