Free related posts recommendation solution?
-
I was preparing to use Diqus plugin to show related posts, but our site has already used another comment solution which is developed ourselves, and I don't think it's a good idea to replace all the comments of the entire site.
So is there another free service to show visitors related posts? We are not a WP site, so I can only accepts HTML&JS codes, not WP plugins, etc.
And I also don't want it contain external links even if I can benefit from them, because we are in a pretty specific niche, the recommendations to posts on other sites may take our orders away.
Thanks

They do say to contact them if you're looking for one of the other systems, Jonny. Might well be worth an email to see if you could try out a beta version of the JS. (if you're into messing with beta stuff)
Glad you found it helpful

Nice complement Paul, I checked the NRelate it's nice, I'll keep tracking this plugin until they offer an universal JS version.
-
In addition to Zemanta that Tom mentions, NRelate also has an excellent Related Post plugin.
Unfortunately, at this point it looks like they're both focusing on plugins for CMSs, Tumblr etc. (Both do offer the ability to configure purely for related posts within your own site, so eliminating the dreaded outbound link issue.)
However! I do note that nRelate is talking about a number of new methods in beta, including mention of a JavaScript version:
We are rolling out onto other popular CMS’s such as Drupal, Tumblr, TypePad, and also have a JavaScript version available as well. If you are on a different platform or a custom site, contact us and let’s see if we can get you up and running!
I've configured nRelate for a couple of WordPress clients and it's excellent. Would be worth getting in touch with them to see if they can set you up. (Link is at the bottom of the page linked above)
Let us know if you have any luck!

Hi Jonny
The only I can think of is Zemanta, which I believe can run on a number of platforms. Here's the About page and Wiki page.
However, I'm not sure you'd be able to find a recommend post plugin/module without outbound links - as that sort of defeats the purpose.

Pages vs. Posts for SEO
Hi, I would like your thoughts about pages vs. posts for SEO. I understand the difference in terms of WP structure and have read the SEOmoz blog post about setting up your site for SEO success (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success). However, if you're trying to rank for a particular keyword, it seems that either one could work, from an on-page SEO perspective, as far as title tag, URL, meta description, etc. So how do you decide whether to set up a page vs. a post? What are the pros and cons, from an SEO perspective, about using one vs. the other? Thanks in advance! Carolina

Homepage and Category pages rank for article/post titles after HTML5 Redesign
My site's URL (web address) is: http://bit.ly/g2fhhC Timeline:
Web Design | | mcluna
At the end of March we released a site redesign in HTML5
As part of the redesign we used multiple H1s (for nested articles on the homepage) and for content sections other than articles on a page. In summary, our pages have many many, I mean lots of H1's compared to other sites notable sites that use HTML5 and only one H1 (some of these are the biggest sites on the web) - yet I don't want to say this is the culprit because the HTML5 document outline (page sections) create the equivalent of H1 - H6 tags. We have also have been having Google cache snapshot issues due to Modernzr which we are working to apply the patch. https://github.com/h5bp/html5-boilerplate/issues/1086 - Not sure if this would driving our indexing issues as below. Situation:
Since the redesign when we query our article title then Google will list the homepage, category page or tag page that the article resides on. Most of the time it ranks for the homepage for the article query.
If we link directly to the article pages from a relevant internal page it does not help Google index the correct page. If we link to an article from an external site it does not help Google index the correct page. Here are some images of some example query results for our article titles: Homepage ranks for article title aged 5 hours
http://imgur.com/yNVU2 Homepage ranks for article title aged 36 min.
http://imgur.com/5RZgB Homepage at uncategorized page listed instead of article for exact match article query
http://imgur.com/MddcE Article aged over 10 day indexing correctly. Yes it's possible for Google index our article pages but again.
http://imgur.com/mZhmd What we have done so far:
-Removed the H1 tag from the site wide domain link
-Made the article title a link. How it was on the old version so replicating
-Applying the Modernizr patch today to correct blank caching issue. We are hoping you can assess the number H1s we are using on our homepage (i think over 40) and on our article pages (i believe over 25 H1s) and let us know if this may be sending a confusing signal to Google. Or if you see something else we're missing. All HTML5 and Google documentation makes clear that Google can parse multiple H1s & understand header, sub & that multiple H1s are okay etc... but it seems possible that algorythmic weighting may not have caught up with HTML5. Look forward to your thoughts. Thanks0 -
Best hosting solution for linkbait videos
I'm creating a series of link bait videos. I want people to link to the pages on my site hosting the videos. What's the best site to host them on, if my primary concern is to get do-followed links? I'm worried about putting them on YouTube, as I imagine most of the links will be to the page on youtube.com, or worse, just directly embedded.

Recommendation for a company to make a site more mobile friendly?
Hiya, We have a client who uses us for SEO, and a separate company for web development. They have a fairly large site on a bespoke CMS. They're happy with the site, but the user experience on mobile devices is not right. Can anybody recommend a company specializing in that area? Preferably a UK company but not essential. Thanks 🙂

Best Site navigation solution
Hi there, We are getting our website redesigned and would like to know whether to increase the links on our site wide navigation or not. At the moment we have around 30 links from the navigation. We want to use exploding navigation menu and increase the links to our most important categories. Say if we increase to 60-70 would that be alright. (what will be the highest we can go for) At the moment categories that get links from navigation are ranking pretty good. If we increase would we loose those rankings. What will be the pros and cons of increasing navigation links? Second question we are also adding fooer links to top 10 categories in the footer. Would this be ok as far as seo and google concerned. Many Thanks
