Crawl findings 301 redirects I didn't make?
-
Hi,
I'm new to SEOMOZ Pro and loving it so far, but was confused as to how the 51 page Crawl of my site (http://cryptophoneaustralia.com) found so many 301 redirects. 18 to be exact.
It's a Wordpress site, and my htaccess file has no 301's in it, so I'm kind of confused as to where to start looking as to why they've shown up in the crawl.
I've been building sites for years, and use 301's quite regularly, but this site should have none.
The site was originally on a subdomain until it was ready to go live, then I moved the site to it's current domain and ran the Velvet Blues plugin to update all the URLs. I then went through and manually changed the ones in areas where this plugin tends to miss.
The site still functions fine, it just bothers me why the 301's are being found in the crawl.
Thank you.

Thank you,
That's probably what's happening. I thought changing the slug etc would just cause the database to be updated.
All good. Thank again.

WordPress creates internal redirects sometimes (if your server configuration allows it), for example if you change your permalink structure or a post URL (slug), the old address will redirect to the new one. Maybe that is what you are seeing?

How do I recover from a double 301 mistake?
We have a site that was ranking top 10 for 15 KW and top 20 for about 40. We decided to restructure the site to create silos. The old site used a plugin to create ".html" pages and the juice in Google was all on those pages. We asked our developer to eliminate the plugin / .html and forward the .html pages to our new structure. Instead, he took a shortcut and did a mass forward in code which resulted in all pages - such as "example.com/mypage.html" now forwarding to "example.com/mypage/" - He then did a 301 redirect from those pages with the "/" such as example.com/mypage/ to "example.com/my-new-page/". He did this for over 500 pages. To make matters worse, he mis-mapped about 100 pages and Google saw them as 404s, then in fixing those errors, new ones kept popping up. Those are now fixed. The net result is that we dropped like a stone on all of our rankings. Moving forward, do you think we can regain ground by manually doing 301s for the original .html pages to their new locations and eliminating the interim step? What would be your suggestions to recover as quickly as possible?

SeoMoz: Competitive domain analysis report doesn't add up?
Hi, When I check OSE against the Competitive Domain Analysis report in my account the numbers are way off. If the CDA report was 100%, OSE is showing 30% of that. I'm looking at linking root domains with no filters applied. Is the data not pulled from the same db? Thanks.
