Search Traffic Declining
-
Hello,
My search engine traffic has been declining recently - I saw one decline last August and another this past April.
I'm trying to figure out what caused the decline and would love advice on where I should start digging. Any recommendations would really help me!
Thanks in advance.
Jodi

Great suggestions by John.
I would also check your other visitor-source stats: direct traffic and other [besides SEs] referrers, and correlate with other real-world activities and events. This relates not only to the possibility of other new backlinks, but also to any other marketing efforts you (or your client) may have been doing in, or before, the months in which your SE traffic dropped. If visitors are finding your site easily by other means (news items, collateral handouts, etc), your number and percentage of search-based traffic may drop.

Could be lots of reasons from my own experience, if your site has not been penalized, which I am sure you would know and have not said ... I would start looking at content:
Are you pages optimized enough, or indeed over optimized.
Have competitors naturally pushed your results further down the SERP.
Do you monitor your backlinks, have some of these been removed from affiliates.
Is your content optimised for mobile, more and more people are using mobile devices to browse.
That is where I would start at least and see if you can get any answers there
Regards
John

Google Site search operator showing different results than Search Console
Hey everybody, I am seeing some confusing results. I am seeing that in the back of our Search Console we are showing around 4,500 sites indexed. If I use the "site" operator in google, only 2820 show up... any thoughts as to why that happens?

GWMT / Search Analytics VS OpenSiteExplorer
Just had the experience of using OSE data to show what we call "linkrot" to a client -- only to find that GWMT / Search Analytics shows no such thing. Fortunately the client is an old friend and no face was lost, but it was dicey there for a bit as I have come to rely on and reference OSE again and again and again, OSE showed Domain Authority dropping by about 1/3 in the last 12 months, presumably due to old links getting broken, linking sites changing their architecture etc. And of course, ranking is tanking, as you would expect. But Google shows many more (and much more spammy looking!) backlinks. Has anyone had any experience benchmarking the 2 data sets of backlinks against each other? Dr Pete?

Does one update more frequently than another? Do you trust one more than another?? If so, why?? Thanks!0 -
Does Moz have any tools to see the amount of traffic certain keywords bring us in search? Does anyone know any tools that give the actual traffic numbers?
We're looking for numerical data on the amount of traffic that keywords receive, regardless of their rank in Moz. Thanks!

Could client be skewing search results?
I'm working with a client that is searching Google numerous times per day for various phrases that his site may rank for. A lot of these he uses the same search phrase multiple times/day to see if there is any change. Unfortunately, these are not the phrases I have optimized his site for. Moz is now displaying some of these search phrases along with associated pages and grading them as F - because they are not optimized for these phrases. Is it possible that my client caused this by doing the searches? If I already have particular pages grading an A for the targeted term chosen, should I attempt to add elements to move the F to a better position for the new keyword phrase being suggested? (I always thought you should target one page/phrase. Thanks!!

Not provided traffic in Moz
Hello, I was wondering, if anyone knew how moz handles non provided keywords? is it not displayed, or is it labeled as something else? I know in WMT, it still displays it. Thanks for your help.

Website traffic data miles behind
Just logged into one of my profiles to review my traffic data and the last traffic is for 9th Jan. Given it is now 22 this is far far from acceptable. Given the high monthly fee charged by this service why is the traffic data so far behind. If other services (cheaper services) can update their traffic data daily or even weekly why should I continue to use SEOMOZ. The rankings, errors etc are all updated for the 21st of Jan so why not the traffic. Your's An unhappy custimer

Is SEOMoz better than Traffic Travis ?
I've been trying both programs for the free trial and I'm not sure which one is exactly better. they seem to me that both give a similar asepct of research, However SEOMOZ seems to be updating more frequntly. On the seconnd hand, traffic travis is way more cheaper only $97 one time fee as apposed to SEOMoz $100 per month Could someone convince me SEOMOZ is the better tool?
