Anyone else having webmaster tools delays?
-
My errors just stopped updating on April 25. Everything else is updating normal, did something change/

We had been working down the number from 300k and it should have hit 0 within a day or two of when webmaster tools stopped working.

Like John said, it is a known problem. Here's a post that Barry wrote at SER about it:

Thank You

Has the potential to be a great tool if they did just a little work on it.

The WMT error reporting issue has been driving me crazy. At first it was stuck on the 23rd but it did move forward to the 25th for me eventually... but that doesn't exactly help me at all. Hopefully they'll figure it out and fix it soon.

my backlinks aren't updating on there. I deleted this stupid blog that my predecessor had built and had about 600 links pointing back at us from about 5-6 weeks ago and it still show shows all the links coming in on GWT.
But.. the site just flat-out doesn't exist. Bah

Yep, there is a problem with them updating at the moment, you aren't the only one

Moving to https - Webmaster Tools
Okay so I've moved a site I work on to https finally... wasn't easy, but I won't go into the whys and hows of that. Everything is working fine on the site and my rankings are holding steady but when I went into the GWT today I noticed that my main site (www.domain.com) has lost inquiry and traffic data almost entirely. So I quickly added and verified the https://www.domain.com URL (even though it doesn't ask for the protocol when adding a site) and saw the traffic.. kind of. Only 2 inquiries and a few pages indexed. Now I realize I need to submit a new sitemap and am currently working on that but don't know which account to upload it to. Do I really need two GWT sites separately and why is the other one still getting the impressions and clicks? Basically I'm looking for somebody to shed some light on how to handle this migration from a GWT standpoint. I've attached 3 screenshots to illustrate what I'm talking about. Should be obvious what's what to those who read this post. The Analytics shot is to show that I haven't actually lost traffic in this time and eliminate the fear of penalty or anything of the sort. Thanks! wbPpwVw.png YJifLiR.png cRVgqRN.png

Pairing webmaster tools with analytics - user access
If you pair webmaster tools with an analytics account does this auto allow access for any of the authorised analytics users or do they have to be granted access individually from within GWT ? cheers dan

Ok when it comes to detecting broken links I'm getting really frustrated with webmaster tools. Now I'm probably going to end up with egg on my face with this one but here is an example of webmaster tools reporting a broken link which i cant find. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/phantom-broken-links_zpsb74e1246.jpg Having trawled through the code i just cant see the knackered link? Is it a phantom report or is something usefull being detected here? Grazie tanto,

Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages?
Does anyone know of a way to do a profile level filter to exclude all traffic if it enters the site via certain landing pages? The problem I have is that we have several pages that are served to visitors of numerous other domains but are also served to visitors of our site. We end up with inflated Google Analytics numbers because people are viewing these pages from our partners' domains but never actually entering our site. I've made an advanced segment that serves the purpose but I'd really like to filter it at the profile level so the numbers across the board are more accurate without having to apply an advanced segment to every report. The advanced segment excludes visits that hit these pages as landing pages but includes visits where people have come from other pages on our domain. I know that you can do profile filters to exclude visits to pages or directories entirely but is there a way to filter them only if they are a landing pages? Any other creative thoughts? Thanks in advance!

What else do I do?
I am a web developer first, and SEO second. I've been under the impression that a good web developer created well organized and efficient sites. Over the last couple years I've been diving more into the advanced SEO world. Mostly focusing on keyword research, competition analyzation, and trying to help conversion increase. For the most part I have been successful with the clients that have hired me for SEO. I usually first start by doing keyword and competition research. After that I advise them on the content they should create. We discuss the end goal for all viewers and the end goal for each page type (front page, blog posts, interior page, and specific pages). We design the site around these end goals. We launch the site. I came up with an infographic with spaceships describing these steps as: Research, Plan, Build, Launch, Navigate. Somewhat based on scientific method. I haven't done a lot of link building yet though as for the most part I've been encouraging clients to first create content and focus on creating a community and relationship with people using whatever means they feel they are capable of actually using on a regular basis (facebook, google+, twitter, etc). I make sure to add schema code, 301 old urls, site is optimized, urls are structured well, site is interlinked. We also look at direct advertising and whatever other methods we can that would be positive for their end goal. But some of my clients I just can't seem to make much headway with. One sells medical insurance to small businesses, and also life insurance. For him I have focused on local targeting, and writing articles about topics which have the most possibilities for traffic in his market (it seems to be an incredibly competitive market). The other is a Dating & Life Coach. For her I am targeting locally as well, and also encouraging her to write articles for search phrases she has the best chances of ranking in. Again though, this market seems very competitive. She ranks in the top 20 for a few articles now (she has written about 6-8 since we started). She gets very few visits from these articles though (of course she is not in the top 3). My worry is this: For the articles she has a 100% bounce rate and less than 30 seconds viewer time. I'd like to see more data over time with more viewers but my question is: What else can I do? And what if the content she writes people just don't find useful? Same goes for the insurance guy... Maybe I'm just looking for reassurance I'm going in the right direction.

Has anyone noticed a dramatic drop in direct visits year over year in GA across multiple sites?
I monitor about 10 websites in GA. Many of these sites are in a stable phase of their lifecycle. I've noticed this year that direct visits on all my sites and even friends sites have dropped by 20-60%. Has anyone seen any explanation for this or noticed this when compared to previous year? In every instance I have no penalties, notices, anything and the drop is made up completely of "direct visits".

Why Webmaster tools shows different avg. positions?
Hi everyone, I am new to Seomoz, I loved this amazing SEO school 🙂 My questions is about webmaster tool. Webmaster tool shows that my site's avg. positions is 34 and its getting better every week. I even see some new queries, new avg. positions for that queries. That's great ! But when I search the avg position it is between 54 -60 and I don't see any new queries . Shouldnt we rely on what webmaster tells us about avg. positions? Thanks a lot
