How to rank 1000s of subcategories [E-commerce]
-
Hi guys, I run an eCommerce store that has 1000s of subcategories, yes it's a lot but my niche requires that many.
Using Traffic Travis, SEOmoz and other tools I can say that these are Easy/Very Easy to get ranked for. (Sounds good, but it's not that easy)
If I'm honest my site has on site SEO done however I don't have unique content on each of the sub categories as it would take to much time, should I spend my time adding unique content to each one?
I also need to increase page authority to my inner pages, how can I achieve this?
My competitors on each subcategory are linking to there other subcategory should I do the same? I'm just not sure how deep linking works.
My niche is printers/ink that's why I need lots of subcategorys however I'm just lost on what to do at the moment and I really need to increase sales!
Thanks for reading.

For top level categories we are trying to make very unique content. For similar subcategories there may be a little overlap in product description on the category page but we try to make sure they are atleast 70% unique. It's a subjective call, not a perfected science with that.
Taking the best sellers first is definitely the way to go about doing it.
I don't monitor page authority as much but our rankings have increased and stuck for rather competitive SERPs. There are a ton of other variables that went into our increased rankings so to say that adding unique content to a page "caused" a ranking increase would have to be tested out. I know it helped, just not sure to tell you how much.
You look more authentic to Google and Bing if you have unique quality content.

Write unique content for your top 100 pages. Wait a month to see the results and then decided whether it will take too much time to write all those pages.

Are you making 100% unique content? Or are you taking bits from similar categories and adding to it, it's really hard to do 1000+ with unique content. I might just focus on best sellers and see how I get on.
Has your page authoirty increased because of the content? Also have your ranks increased?
Thanks!

I have been working on an ecommerce site with probably 10% of the categories you have but I have seen incredible value from taking the time (no matter how much it it) in adding unique content to the pages. This will not only help you rank well but it will (as I have seen) give your product pages and sub category pages much more credibility.
My advice after having taken the time and still taking the time to do the (non glorious) work of a ton of on page optimization is to keep at it. Just grab yourself a big cup of coffee, a pair of good headphones and get to work. After a while you'll get a system down and be able to go through it much faster or you can outsource it to someone who can then follow your system.
Most of all with ecommerce, keep at it. Just plow through the incredibly monotonous tasks that it requires. Set up the system/method you need to go through for each on page area and then teach someone to do it.

I'VE DONE EVERYTHING RIGHT BUT STILL GET LOW GOOGLE RANKING
Moz Pro Dashboard compared my site to three competitors' site. My site is better in every aspect. My DA is higher, I have four times more external links, I have more relevant content than my competition, my site also is the fastest, I have solved all redirect issues, there is no broken link internally or externally. We are custom home builders. So all our sites have numerous full screen images. I have optimized all of them. When I ran WebPageTest on my competition, they all fail. My site got A's in all categories. The three competitors' sites rank first, second and third. My site ranks bottom on the 2nd page. Since my site was online last January, I have spent thousands of dollars on SEO work. Its url is www.pokudesign.com I am hoping somebody can point me in the right direction. I am attaching a screen shot of my Moz Pro Dashboard. frEpZ

Recovering rankings after a botched url change
Hi there, I have for a long time had a bicycle maintenance website at madegood.org. Over the years the film branch of this business has taken off and moved in a slightly different direction, so I thought in March I decided to move madegood.org to madegoobikes.com, and create a new website for my film business at madegood.com. I thought I did a good job of telling google about my change of domain, but my rankings completely died, so about a month I moved madegoodbikes.com back to madegood.org. So far I haven't seen any sign of a recovery in my rankings, I'm getting almost no visits. I've check all my top pages on OSE and everything seems to be in place. https://mza.bundledseo.com/researchtools/ose/pages?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.madegood.org%2F&no_redirects=0&sort=page_authority&filter=all&page=1 Is it normal to wait over a month for my rankings to recover, or is there anything else I should be doing? Any tips/ideas/advice whatsoever will of huge help!

How can you tell how many pages rank for a particular keyword?
I know with ranktracker I can see a page that will rank for a certain keyword. What if I have multiple pages that rank for this keyword? How can I see all pages that rank for it?

Keyword rankings tool not fully populated today?
I logged in today and my rankings are normally crawled on Thurs, and of my 66 keywords only 6 of them are showing any data - the rest are all blank. It's been going for weeks so it's not like it doesn't have it's initial data yet. I presume this is some issue or artifact that the results haven't been input yet. Can someone help answer this?

The keyword ranking report takes into account all my website urls? Can I specify the URLs where I want to track the keywords?
I don't know if my weekly reports are reporting the ranking of my keywords correctly. I have added some new keywords, since that all my reports are in red numbers. I don't know if this is happening because I did something wrong, or if is because my rankings are really falling down.

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew

Pagerank Update - Decreased Rankings
After the PR update the other day, some of my domain names gained PR (from 0 to 3 or 4) but the kw rank they held previously dropped off the map. Its clear the term pagerank is ill defined. Does anyone have any insight into this?
