Manual and algorithm ban
-
Hi guys, what is the difference between a manual penalty in the results and an algorithm?
If its algorithm its usually a couple of pages but a manual do you get deindexed or put say 10 pages back?
Any advice on how to best determin if a push back in results is manual or algorithm would be great. This will best help me judge how long it will take to get back to where I was with one of my sites once i have cleaned up some of my back-link profile.
Thanks.

Hello Paul,
Here is a great blog post by Marie Haynes, that gives you everything you could possibly need to know about the difference between an algo penalty and a manual penalty. Might as well not have to reinvent the wheel.
I hope that helps!

How long for a Disavow file to take affect for a non-manual penalty?
Hi guys, hope you're all good, quick question in regards to a Disavow file. A page of ours recently crashed from page 2 all the way to page 7ish. It's weird that it happened considering it was ranking on the 2nd page for around a year, then all of a sudden it came crashing down. I identified an affiliate link which was placed in a sidebar, webmaster tools picked up 24,000+ links coming from the site so I have decided to disavow it. I disavowed the site around 3 days ago, and in the mean time we have managed to grab ourselves some very good do-follow links from very authoritative sites. At the moment the page has gone up 1 page, sitting at 4-5th page, but the rankings have been very inconsistent. Any ideas to when we may see an increase in ranking for this page? I am being very impatient, at the moment my workload has been dedicated to get this one page ranking again. All comments greatly appreciated.

Recovery from manual penalty, several sites sell same products
We are still struggling with the consequences of a manual penalty. Here the history we got a manual penalty in September 2013 on our main site kinderwagen.com for unnatural links we cleaned up our link profile and the penalty was lifted in February 2014 we did nothing in terms of link building until December 2014 from December 2014 we started to build natural links, we mostly gave away our products for reviews, that way we built first one content link per month now 2-3 content links per months we expanded our social acitivities on facebook and google plus we started a blog in the beginning of this year and rewrote our guide section For now the results of all this have been very modest. We are basically still stuck where we were after the penalty. In contrast our sites in other languages where we do similar activities perform quite well. There is one difference in Germany (where this kinderwagen.com is) we have other niche sites which partially sell the the same products. We made sure that every product is indexed only once, however it might still hurt the main site. Does anyone have experience in a similar situation or advice what we could do? Thanks in advance. Dieter

Help with 50 Plus Penalty, No Manual Action Reported
We have a client who had been ranking in Google’s top ten organic results for 2 of his major keywords last year. Currently Bing and Yahoo ranks his site #1 for both of these terms; the ranking pages that are appearing were specifically targeted with these words. As of now, the client appears to have a 50 plus penalty for these two keywords. Appearing #76 for one term and # 60 for the other. We were thinking of submitting a reconsideration request through Google Webmaster tools, but discovered that you aren’t allowed to do that unless a Manual Action has appeared, which in this case has not. The only problem we’ve had with the site from an SEO standpoint is that we recently discovered a website that had copied some of the product descriptions verbatim. The client contacted the site owner who took it down immediately (about a month ago), but we still have not seen any improvement in rankings for these keywords. Does anyone have any ideas on how to communicate this Google and get the suspected penalty lifted if a reconsideration request is apparently not available?

Loss of rankings due to hack. No manual penalty. Please advise.
I have a client who's site was hacked. The hack added a fake directory to the site, and generated thousands of links to a page that no longer exists. We fixed the hack and the site is fully protected. We disavowed all the malicious/fake links, but the rankings fell off a cliff (they lost top 50 Google rankings for most of their targeted terms). There is no manual penalty set, but it has been 6 weeks and their rankings have not returned. In webmaster tools, their priority #1 "Not found" page is the fake page that no longer exists. Is there anything else we can do? We are out of answers and the rankings haven't even come back at all. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks!

Manual reconsideration request not going away.
Hello fellow Mozzers. I am in need of the support from a knowledgeable community, my brain is hurting over this query and is not providing any answers! So I have got my fingers crossed that someone can spot the issue of why a website I am responsible for has been bumped out of the Google search results. In March this website (www.message me for details.com) lost all keyword rankings and also all brand terms. Action was taken to remove unnatural links as you can see from the timeline below these links have been removed. The manual review request has come back from Google and now seems to indicate the reason for the serps removal is due to 'some or all of your pages still violate our quality guidelines', which makes me think it the website itself as well and links that were causing the issue. So what has happened so far? 9 March - Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links to www.message me for details.com 20 May - All 'unnatural' links that could not be removed by contacting website owners were compiled and added to the disavow tool. 29 May - Manual resubmission request submitted. 6 June - The following message received (see end of post): 18 June - updated disavow request submitted - roughly 40-50% links removed. 27 June – Manual review requested. 2 July - The following message received (see end of post): So after reviewing thousands of links and removing any poor-quality links, contacting webmaster and when not ale to remove manually I have added to a disavow list. Although their is a chance I have missed something in the link reviews but I am pretty confident that anything that could be considered spammy as been removed or disavowed. I have also used the tech crawl tool and there are no issues showing up there. I am at a lose as to what is cauing this issue. I need some advice on what steps to take next.. Regards, Colin Google message Dear site owner or webmaster of www.message me for details.com,

No manual spam actions found - Now what to do
In last Panda update on 22nd January my site traffic reduced 30% to 40% but still some of my keywords are ranking on first and second page in SERP. With latest Penguin 2.0 update all of my keywords ranking is out of 100. Both times I send reconsideration request and get message that No Manual actions found on site. I just don't know what steps are better to get ranking back. Should I use disavow tool and remove backlinks to recover from Penguin or work more on creating quality links. My Site : http://goo.gl/sSBes Thanks, Steve

Fixing Google Places once Banned
I have a lot of clients who have somehow botched up their Google Places listing, and now are not showing up in local search results. In one particular case, they were using 2 different Gmail accounts and submitted their listing twice by accident. It appears Google has banned them from local search results. How does one undo steps like this and start fresh? Thanks!
