Adding video snippet caused drop of star rating snippet in google SERP. Any solution to show both?
-
We are using on our product pages review schema markup which showed up well in google SERP. Now we added schema video markup as well and google shows in SERP now only the video snippet, but not the review snippet anymore.
Any idea whether there may be a solution to show both video and review snippets?

thanks. On first sight could not find any other reason for disappearance in rankings, but will have a second look.
Relevance of aggregate review on category is not so black or white.
I believe that it adds some value to know aggregated reviews by brands for example, but other people may question this value. -
I've never heard of that happening and to be honest, I'd be extremely surprised if adding aggregrate review mark-up to category pages (providing it was relevant and legitimate) triggered any sort of penalty. If the mark-up was essentially a bit deceptive or irrelevant, I could potentially see a manual reviewer giving the site some sort of page level penalty, but I've never heard of this happening and would be suspicious of such assumptions.

Excellent advice. Will do as you suggest.
Thanks a lot Phil. You mentioned category pages. It'is something giving me extreme headaches at the moment.
On one of my e-commerce sites I used aggregated review markup on the category pages and some months later they stopped ranking in google. Did you hear about any case where google penalized because of category page review markup? I am not sure whether this was the reason? -
I don't think there's a solution to show both simultaneously, but you may find with your implementation that the rich snippet given varies on a keyword basis.
I would suggest from tests I've done that the video snippet would tend to be preferenced, but I don't have statistical significance to suggest there's any rule there.
My advice for actions going forward would be to remove the video schema on a subset of test pages and then compare percentage traffic increases/decreases across these pages from when they had video snippet vs stars. Which one will perform better for you will likely vary greatly dependent on the type of pages in question and the vertical you're in. Once you've got enough data to work out whether video or stars perform better on a per page-type basis.. e.g. maybe for product pages, stars get more clicks, but video snippets get more clicks on category pages, you can start to push out the appropriate mark up on each pages.
I'd therefore advise that you think in terms of "not having your cake and eating it", instead working out what works best in each instance and focusing on that, rather than trying to put all the markup on all the pages.

just tested it in rich snippet tool and only the star ratings show up.
As video snippet also requires video sitemap, I am not sure whether rich snippet tool is actually able to preview video snippets.

How does it appear when you pop it into http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets
I know that G doesn't always show all the snippets and can choose which they show/don't. If that tool shows both, maybe post on the G webmaster forums. If not, maybe you messed up your code somewhere.

Serp Stars?
Is there anyway of getting the Stars to show up for a home page? The issue is that 70% of our traffic goes to our home page and while we have stars for the product pages this only covers 30% of our traffic the other 70% goes to our home page and due to this not being a product page it does not have them. Would selling the product direct on this page allow us to have them? I appreciate any help.

My website has dropped in the rankings drastically. How can I get it back up the SERPs?
I manage a website that I took over 6 months ago - the site was sitting happily on page one of google so I haven't had to do much to keep it there - other than a few onsite improvements. However, last week the site dropped off the SERPs. The site is http://www.pro-techairconditioning.co.uk/content/home.html Could someone please suggest reasons for this and ways to solve the problem? Thanks

Google Penalty - Has It Been Lifted?
Hi, We have been trying to remove a ‘partial’ google penalty for a new client by the way of removing unnatural backlinks over a period of time and then submitting a reconsideration request, and uploading a disavow file etc. Previously Google listed the partial penalty in the ‘manual actions’ section of webmaster tools, making it possible for us to submit a reconsideration request. Having just logged in however we get the message ‘no manual webspam actions found’. So there isn’t any way we can submit a reconsideration request. Does this mean that the penalty has been lifted? Or could it still exist? If the latter is there any other way to submit a reconsideration request? Many thanks in advance, Lee.

Breadcrumbs showing up in every snippet in search
Ok I created breadcrumbs on my site long ago. They popup every time which what i'm concerned about. I wanted them to pop up for searches that lead to my homepage, but the breadcrumbs pop up for every product and every page on my site. My question is does this hurt searches for the link part of it. As you know search engines check title link and descriptions. Will my link not be counted in or is the breadcrumb purely cosmetic. Just want to know if i'm limiting my rank. Here's a product that should show its own breadcrumb type "Bia Brazil BT3341 BKS-Sexy" in google to see example. I should be number one under ads My code that creates breadcrumbs is as follows: Tops Shorts Best Fit By Brazil Capris Bia Brazil Sexy Leggings Sexy Workout Clothes 15% OFF I REMOVED CODE FROM WEBSITE FOR NOW UNTIL I FIGURE OUT. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE ANSWERS BEFORE search results change thx.

Local Showroom Tel Showing Up in SERP for Branded Term Search?
We encountered an issue: when user search for a branded term in UK on Google UK, one of the showroom got listed in SERP under site links as a location with Location icon and takes over a few lines - their address and phone number are displayed. This caused confusion for user as it's only one of our showrooms and we don't want to direct calls to the showroom this way. I'm suspecting somehow the localization factor came into play but not sure how to remove the showroom phone number from being displayed. Anyone has any insight/experience with this? Thanks

My homepage dropped off of Google today? Any ideas?
My site, www.leaffilter.com, previously ranked #1 for searches of "leaffilter" and "leaf filter". Today the #1 ranking for "leaffilter" with Google is gone. Well, it's not gone on all internet connection. At home the #1 ranking is in place. At the office computer it is not anywhere near page 1. I'm testing searches logged in, not logged in, cache and cookies cleared, different browsers. Other, secondary pages, are appearing on page 1. It looks as if the homepage is just no longer indexed...but not on all internet connection. Any ideas what is happening? Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

Taking up the entire serp
Hey guys, I tried to search across the q&a for an answer but came up with nothing for this. I'm competing well for our keyword rankings with 20 keywords, 13 of which on the first page and 9 in the top 3. Which is great! But what we are interested in doing is taking over the rankings. Currently competitors reside around us in the serps taking up the remainder of traffic. We are considering creating new websites and competing on the same keywords to rank and eventually take over the google rankings for our products. So that if you were to look to buy 'purple buttons' the top 5 websites sell these but are owned by ourselves. The question is. Has anyone else done this? What are googles views? Are there any traps that we could run into? As far as I see it the only real issues we could run into are with google on a moral basis. Thoughts?
