OSE stats for 2 site: searoundus.org and www.seaaroundus.org.
-
Why are the numbers so different for the two site, one with and one without the www.? Which one is most accurate for external linking domains, for instance?
-
Sorry, I meant two "a"'s.
Interesting that Google gives the same number of links for both (link:www.seaaroundus.org and link:seaaroundus.org) when I do it (157). But OSE has very different numbers for them
Yes, it does need a redirect. But I can't do that, since I don't control the site. Just am doing some analysis and wondering which URL for Sea Around Us to use.
Thanks.
-
In your question, you wrote searoundus.org and www.seaaroundus.org as the two URLs you were comparing.
The first one is written with one "a" and the second with two. If those are actually the versions you were comparing, that would make a big difference.
If it's seaaroundus.org vs www.seaaroundus.org, the vast majority of the links are to www.seaaroundus.org and that is the form Google is preferring in the search results. (It does still need a redirect.)
-
Thanks. you confirmed my fears.
-
Okay, that is a difficult question. They are two completely different sites in the eyes of search engines unless you do a redirect. At this moment their are probably a lot of links pointing to one of them and also a lot pointing at the other site.
This can also create nasty duplicate content issues.
Sorry. but i wouldn't know which one to choose for the most accurate one since they should be counted as a single website.Hope i've helped you in some way.
-
Thanks. I understand that; and I don't own this site so I can't make the 301 change. I need to know which numbers to use in my analysis, which one (i.e. domain, with or without the .www) provides the more accurate numbers for Total External Links and Total Linking Root Domains, for instance.
-
It is probably because you haven't set up a 301 redirect from one of the websites to the other. (So for example: http://searoundus.org redirects to http://www.searoundus.org)
For help on doing this: http://www.dailyblogtips.com/how-to-setup-a-301-redirect/
Let me know if you need more help or if i was unclear.
Hope i helped your problem

OSE - Group by Domain Export
When exporting inbound link data from OSE, it seems to lose the "group by domain" filter. Is it possible to download the data like that or do I need to filter through all the links myself? Thanks!

Open Site Explorer Backlink Numbers Wrong?
So, I have a new site that we are currently building links for, lots of hard work. Anyway, I was a bit shocked when I viewed my site through Open Site Explorer and found only 4 backlinks!!!!! Alexa.com, Majestic, and Google Webmaster Tools don't show the exact same numbers, but their figures are all MUCH higher, 4 to 566 for example. What gives Site is www.powerequipmentplus.com for those who want to look themselves. Thanks for your time and concern.

Looking to Hire an SEO Expert for Travel Site
Hello Everyone, I hope this is OK to post here. I run a travel website and we operate tours abroad. We are slowly expanding after nearly 10 years in the field. I started the company from scratch and currently do my own website design and SEO work. However, over the last couple of years I've lost the SEO connection due to being so darn busy. I started account here with SEO Moz in order to get the ball rolling again. We continually rank high for keywords, publish superb content by great writers, and overall are doing fine. I would just like to ensure this keeps happening and that we have an expert on board to help us in sustainable organic SEO practices. What I'd like to do is hire an SEO expert to help with our site. It might be part time (10 or so hours per week, perhaps?) Anyhow, I would like if this person used SeoMoz and really had their fingers on the pulse of the SEO world. I want all white-hat SEO, help with page optimization, internal link structure, and help getting quality external links. I know that over optimization is something that is now on the forefront of SEO work, so of course keeping this in mind helps. I would like to be kept up to date (perhaps weekly overviews of data and how we are doing) and am willing to make changes as quickly as needed on the site. I would like to see how we rank with competitors and what we need to do to stay on top - for the long term (no short sighted decisions). I want to learn as we progress, not because I want to do the SEO work myself, I just enjoy knowing what is going on. I will not micromanage. I am too busy for that : ) I am not sure what amount SEO experts are paid, but I have a slightly flexible budget. I really want someone will communicate when needed and is thorough in their responses. Attention to detail is a must. I would prefer an SEO expert located in the US but who also knows how to access / think about markets abroad (Canada/UK/Australia). I suppose we can discuss pay once I have a shortlisted group. I am looking to hire and work with someone starting pretty much immediately (even in May). For starters, I suppose our budget might be $500 to $1500 per month. For the first month or so, we might offer payment on a stipend basis just so we can ensure whoever is hired is the perfect fit. It would be great if this person had worked on travel sites before or has at least traveled abroad a few times. But, no worries either way. Thanks so much! Thomas at [email protected]

Open site explorer result discrepancy
Hi all, I'm a little confused - when using open sites explorer to view of link stats on one of our competitors site I get conflicting results. For example - Page Specific Metircs shows the url www.xyz.com has 265 external links. But Root Domain Metrics show they have 22,687 links Yet the total links at the top of the report says Total links 999 Can someone explain why www.xyz.com has 265 external links and the rot domain (which is the same) has 22687 links? I've also run the report on xyz.com rather than www.xyz.com which yielded no results. Thanks in advance

What kind of keyword difficulty should I be aiming for when launching an new site?
I know that words in their 20's or 30's would be ideal, but it's proving hard for me to find relevant keywords with such scores (just a couple with scores in the 30's). Is going for words between 40-50 a waste of time? Thanks.

Potential site architecture problem.
We are experiencing a problem in which category pages do not appear to be passing Page Authority to subcategory pages. See the example below: Home page has PA of 47 http://www.minespress.com/ The next level category page down has a PA of 34 http://www.minespress.com/category/apparel The next sub category down has PA of 1, and shows no links at all in spite of the fact that we got to it from a category link http://www.minespress.com/category/golf-shirts The page in question is crawlable, is indexed and has nothing that we can see that would be prevent it from showing Page Authority and a link profile using your tools. Do we have a site architecture problem?
