Penguin 2.0 Loss of rankings
-
Hi all,
My website http://www.tomlondonmagic.com has been hit hard by penguin.
I was rank 1 for magician london, magician in london, magicians in london and now am ranking around 3-4
I need to recover fast, anyone have any idea how to do this, what strategy to employ.
It would be much appreciated as I have never been hit by an update so not sure on how to recover from one.
Thanks!

Please consider the user first. A user is confused if he found a page for a wedding magician and on the same page a coporate story.
And keyword wise it is much easier to have 2 different pages for google. If you want to know all in's and out's i would have to write a blog artikel, but just 1 page, 1 message and 1 specific keyword is optimal (do not overdo it)
-
Hello,
Why would he not try to rank for wedding and corporate on the same page? Does Google see it as spam? Does he have to change the url and the title on the page or just the meta title tag? Sorry I'm new and I'm trying to understand.
-
Dear Tom,Please use SENSEO firefox plugin to improve the h1 and h2's on your pages. use only one h1 on a page. Reconsider your title tag.
don't try to rank for wedding and corporate on the same page. (title tag)

DA and PA are generalized metrics to provide some insight into overall ranking signals. for any given site, or any given page on any given site, since there are hundreds of high level factors, it's quite realistic to often see rankings that don't directly reflect the DA or PA of all the sites in the mix.
-
I have no evidence for this, but I've heard sites with good social signals are not being affected as much.
Try provide some kind of incentive to share your top blog posts such as an ebook that is unlocked when the post is shared.
-
I should improve on this by saying:
Why am I getting outranked by sites with half the DA and PA of mine?
-
oh believe me, I understand completely. But I googled london magician and you were number 2. That's pretty friggin' good!
One of my sites lost a number one ranking we held for our primary keyword. I'm just happy we are at number 2. I know it could have been worse. Like Chris said, probably not a penalty. Could just be the way the algorithm worked your competitor bested you. Build away and feel proud of the fact that you are operating under Google's Webmaster Guidelines. (most likely...)
-
That's not very hard for a penguin penalty. It would seem more like the natural course of things in the serps. If you keep going down, that would be a bigger problem but if you steady at the 3,4 range, just keep working on your content--magic is a great subject around which to create interesting, engaging content.
-
When you spent the last year climbing from position 4 to 1 for 4-5 keywords, it's a bit of a pain to be back where you started. I will do just that!
-
You dropped just 2 positions?? Consider yourself lucky and go build some organic, natural links!

Web 2.0 Backlinks
Hi Normal Web 2.0 websites like Wordpress.com, blogger.com have very High DA and PA. But when we create a subdomain, DA and PA falls to 1 as Google treats subdomain as new websites. Does it make any sense then to get backlinks from web 2.0 websites? will it help in Google rankings?

Is it possible to rank a second site, for my buisness, for the same location?
I have an insurance agency, and recently set up a new site, specifically for personal lines insurance. My question is; Is it worth trying to rank this site, by using backlinks and unique content? It will have the same address, and location as my main site. I'm also concerned Google may frown on that.. Any input appreciated.

Can I 301 re-direct a page to regain the authority from a penguin penalized page
I built way too many anchor text links to an internal page and was penalized for the associated keyword. However, I do rank on that page for less significant keywords that I didn't build anchor text links for, though not super high. Subsequently, I've found that the sites that rank highly for the keyword that I was looking to rank for are high domain authority with almost no links built to those pages. Can I 301 re-direct that URL to my homepage, where I'm not trying to rank for that term, to make use of that authority of the links I've built to that page and start over on the page that I was hit by penguin on? This appears to make sense to me as my pages that have been hit are specifically for the terms that I have gone overboard on anchor text links. Terms that I haven't built too many anchor text links to still rank on those pages.

To know effect on our Website rank in Google Search results
Ours is Property Advertising Company. And we have agents and consultants working from other areas in providing property for advertising in our website. So we collect all the data (5000 data nearly) and upload in one stretch directly to our database. I would like to know whether this process will affect our ranking in google search results because when we upload 5000 data, the links in our website also increases.

How to rank for many keywords
OK, so I've been diving into SEO pretty hard lately and learning everything I can. Something I'm not quite understanding is how to rank for a lot of different keywords. We're in the proofreading and editing space which can be broken down into many categories: general proofreading & editing essay editing book editing etc. If I consider the "essay editing" category, the main keyword I want to target is, in fact, "essay editing". However, I'd also want to target: essay editing service, edit my essay, fix my essay, revise my essay, etc. Basically, a lot of modifiers. I can easily target our main page for essay editing and essay editing service keywords, but how do I start ranking for those longer tail keywords? Is it simply building content that includes them? Is it getting links utilizing anchor text? Or is there something I'm missing? I don't see the point in building separate service pages for those other keywords; I think that's a waste and bad site architecture practices. I'm just looking for my "aha" moment on these longer-tail rankings. Thanks!

Question about ranking and links
Hi, Some back ground info first: My DA/PA is 42, the competitors who show up in the search engines for the term I am after have DA/PA 55/60. I have been creating anchor text links which target the term im after through guest blogging usually blogs with DA/PA 40+, I did this consistently with a guest post every 3 days for about a month so that's around 10 guest posts. And I also did some brand name blog comments, but these were no-follow and added sig to some forums. This moved me from page 5 to page 1, position 4. I then stopped and over the last 3 weeks it slipped to position 6 then to position 8. The competition doesn't look to actively target this term looking at the data from opensite explorer there main anchor text is there brand names. Why would I be slipping through the results? Not moaning just want to understand why so I can counter it. I was thinking about going for social signals through a blog to help.

Links from local.com after Penguin
I have been doing some research on where some competing links are getting their links from and I see that a decent number seem to be getting some juice from local.com. My question is- have the panda & penguin updates rendered these useless- or even worse can links from directories like this now harm my SEO?
