Strategy for recovering from Penguin
-
I have a web site that has been hit hard by the penguin update. I believe that main cause our problem has been links from low quality blogs and article sites with overly optimized keyword anchor text. Some questions I have are:
-
I have noticed that we still have good ranking on long tail search terms on pages that did not have unnatural links. This leads me to believe that the penalty is URL specific, i.e. only URL with unnatural linking patterns have been penalized. Is that correct?
-
Are URLs that have been penalized permanently tainted to the point that it is not worth adding content to them and continuing to get quality links to them?
-
Should new contact go on new pages that have no history thus no penalty, or is the age of a previously highly ranked page still of great benefit in ranking?
-
Is it likely that the penalty will go away over time if there are no more unnatural links coming in?
-
-
Depends on what type of sites those "not so great sites" are. If they are viewed as spammy, no they won't help.
-
Would non-optimized links from not so great sites be of any help, or do these need to be quality links?
-
I would start by adding links that are not optimized with keywords to those URL's that you feel are penalized. Level up the score for natural vs unnatural links. I wouldn't drop the url's because you probably have some good links out there pointing to those pages. It'll take some work, but you can recover from what I've been reading.

Recovering from Sitemap Issues with Bing
Hi all, I recently took over SEO efforts for a large e-commerce site (I would prefer not to disclose). About a month ago, I began to notice a significant drop in traffic from Bing and uncovered in Bing Webmaster Tools that three different versions of the sitemap were submitted and Bing was crawling all three. I removed the two out of date sitemaps and re-submitted the up to date version. Since then, I have yet to see Bing traffic rebound and the amount of pages indexed by Bing is still dropping daily. During this time there has been no issue with traffic from Google. Currently I have 1.3 million pages indexed by Google while Bing has dropped to 715K (it was at 755K last week and was on par with Google several months ago). I know that no major changes have been made to the site in the past year so I can't point to anything other than the sitemap issue to explain this. If this is indeed the only issue, how long should I expect to wait for Bing to re-index the pages? In the interim I have been manually submitting important pages that aren't currently in the index. Any insights or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Do people recover from an unnatural outbound links penalty?
Dear Friends I received an unnatural outbound links penalty on 4th of June 2016. I immediately acted on it, and analysed a lot of outbound links and removed most of them. I had to file reconsideration 2 times, but on 26th of June my penalty was revoked. However, traffic drop was even worse 27th June onwards and it is still dropping. Now, i dont know why the traffic is dropping. Any idea how much time it takes to come back from an unnatural outbound link penalty? PHd8BzX.png

Recovering an Almost Dead Blog?
Hello, I wanted to ask this from long time but finally i gathered my energy to ask this long question at moz. Well, like almost all newbies with little knowledge of SEO & google I started my first blog in 2009, as things were very different that time & with posting more and more, I was getting good results & started to build decent traffic but with poor content ( I really din't care about it ) as I was getting organic traffic. But things changed with Google Panda Completely after 11th April 2011, Since the time Traffic keep on falling, I never made backlinks so Penguin Updates never hit us but because of Poor & thin Content Site went down lower & lower. I took some steps like increasing word count of posts, removing some posts but nothing worked so far but nothing worked. Blog has almost 1200 articles & most important it was my first blog so I was bit attached with it. Now my Question is, Should I just dispose the blog & move on or There is something which I can try to recover it. The blog is 6 years old as of of now & received 2 million organic traffic as of now. ( attached organic Traffic screenshot ) My question is, Can something be done Seriously for this blog or I should just let it go. I will appreciate some genuine advice on that. Thanks ZhS1xIS.png

Home Page Deindexed Only at Google after Recovering from Hack Attack
Hello, Facing a Strange issue, wordpress blog hghscience[dot]com was hacked by someone, when checked, I found index.php file was changed & it was showing some page with a hacked message, & also index.html file was added to the cpanel account. All pages were showing same message, when I found it, I replaced index.php to default wordpress index.php file & deleted index.htmlI could not find any other file which was looking suspicious. Site started working fine & it was also indexed but cached version was that hacked page. I used webmaster tool to fetch & render it as google bot & submitted for indexing. After that I noticed home page get deindexed by google. Rest all pages are indexing like before. Site was hacked around 30th July & I fixed it on 1st Aug. Since then home page is not getting indexed, I tried to fetch & index multiple time via google webmasters tool but no luck as of now. 1 More thing I Noticed, When I used info:mysite.com on google, its showing some other hacked site ( www.whatsmyreferer.com/ ) When Searching from India But when same info:mysite.com is searched from US a different hacked site is showing ( sigaretamogilev.by )However when I search "mysite.com" my site home page is appearing on google search but when I check cached URL its showing hacked sites mentioned above. As per my knowledge I checked all SEO Plugins, Codes of homepage, can't find anything which is not letting the homepage indexed.PS: webmaster tool has received no warning etc for penalty or malware. I also noticed I disallowed index.php file via robots.txt earlier but now I even removed that. 7Dj1Q0w.png 3krfp9K.png

Multiple domain SEO strategy
Hi Mozzers I'm an AM at a web dev. We're building a new site for a client who sells paint to different markets: Paint for boats Paint for construction industry Paint for, well you get the idea! Would we be better off setting up separate domains - boatpaintxxx.com, housepaintxxx.com, etc - and treat each as a searate microsites for standalone SEO activity or have them as individual pages/sub doms from a single domain - paints4all.com or something? From what i've read today, including the excellent Beginners Guide - I'm guessing there's no definitive answer! Feedback appreciated! Thanks.

Penalized by Penguin 1.1 Release
I just realized that my blog, (www.onbetterterms.com) just recently got blacklisted. That blog actually redirects to www.springcoin.com/blog On May 25th, Google released the Penguin 1.1 update. After looking at my rankings, I found out that all my keywords positions were dropped. I have no idea why, and don't know how to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Penguin Discussion
I think that all the threads regarding the Penguin update (including this) need to be merged into 1 thread as it seems the majority of new conversations are all about the same thing whenever I log on in the morning.

Google Places - What is the best Service Areas Strategy?
I've found a lot of useful info on this topic in these forums, but still can't seem to find the answer to my specific question. Client has one physical location and services many areas. I have seen various comments that claim setting a service area actually has a negative effect on rankings and the login makes sense to me, so we don't want to do that. Using the actual physical address, seems to be what google would prefer, but the address is actually on the outskirts of the city and would mean that competitors that have addresses closer to the city center would show up before us. Our current places listing has the actual address, but the previous SEO put the larger city, with the smaller city zip on the on the website. City Center: San Diego, 92101 Actual: Street Address, El Cajon, 92020 On website: San Diego, 92020 It this large City + Actual zip code strategy any good? Which of these 3 strategies should we use to standardize all of our listings? *we will not be considering a location or mailbox per service are to use multiple listings at this time
