Why am I not getting on Map Listing Results?
-
Greetings Mozzers,
To my knowledge I'm doing everything that is "required" to start showing up on the map results when searching something local, however, we never seem to be on map results (A, B, C, D...etc).
We have a Google+ page, submitted to Google Places (received PIN and entered it), optimized address to identical and in high authority map listing directories (GetListed.org), increased citations throughout the web, optimized keywords for categories on Google Places, schema.org HTML markup for address, meta address tags, consistent reviews being written by unique visitors to review sites (Yelp, Google+, etc).
Am I missing a major component? Any advice would be great as I feel like I'm hitting many notes that should translate into a map result. Even for keywords that aren't incredibly difficult where we are ranking #1 above map results every time.
Thanks and hope all have a great weekend!

Hi Monster Web,
Unfortunately, without actually being able to look at your unique business, this cannot be diagnosed as there are so many variables. If you cannot share this information here, in a case like this, I would recommend that you hire one of the Local SEO firms listed on GetListed.org's recommended companies list so that you can show your info to someone in confidence to begin diagnosing the situation. In the meantime, some things to consider:
1. You say you aren't ranking for desired keyword phrases, but are you at least getting a local result when you search for 'business name + city'? If not, then...
2. How old is the listing?
3. What is the status of the listing in the dashboard (pending, suspended, needs action, etc.)
4. If the listing does exist for the search in question 1 and is simply failing to rank for desired keywords, then...
5. You might be dealing with a penalty; be sure you are compliant with all Google Places Quality Guidelines (http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528).
6. Do some competitive analysis of competitors vs. your business. I like 51 Blocks free local search analysis tool for this. http://www.51blocks.com/online-marketing-tools/free-local-analysis/ This will give you a sense of how you compare to competitors who are ranking well for your desired keywords.
These are just a few thoughts. If you would like to share information about the listing, we can take a better look at your unique situation. If so, please share not only your business info, but also the keyword+geo phrases you are trying to rank for.

What happens when you change your ZIP code to the same ZIP as the business?
Customers won't find you if they're in a different municipality. In other words, customers in "San Leandro" won't see business listings in "Oakland", even if they're 2 miles way. That's because zip codes in different parts of the city may tell Google the END USER and the BUSINESS are in different municipalities.
If you toggle your zip code to the same exact one as the business, do you still not get listed? See below to see where on Google to change it.

How to outrank list and lifestyle websites
Hi everyone, We have a fully optimised client site with Moz optimisation scores of 95% and above. Each month we also create 1-2 backlinks. However, for the keywords we track, our client's site is stuck and no longer moving up at the bottom of page 1 and further down to page 2 and 3. The keywords ranking on first page are also getting very low click through rates - between 1% and 3%. The sites that outrank us are a mix of: Top X Places to visit... X Best Places to see... Trip advisor Things to do in... A guide to the best... Is there a chance for us to outrank the type of sites above? Will persevering in link building do the trick? I understand this may take a while because we have a fixed time and budget for each of our clients. If we can't outrank these lifestyle and list sites, will beating just direct competitors be enough? However, this won't change the low CTR issue... Another solution we're looking at is to change our keywords, which may be a bit tough because the current ones we track, even though they are a little broad, are exactly what the client offer and already have low search volumes. Going more specific will surely have lesser search volumes. Thanks in advance.

Google inaccurate results: Common or error?
Hi all, While searching for our primary keyword, I can see 2 websites on second page results which are non-related to the keyword or industry but their company name is this keyword. Like if I want to rank and searching for "SEO", there are 2 websites which called "seo trucks" and "seo paints". I wonder how Google is ranking these websites for high competition keyword with 1 million searches per month. So the keyword in URL and this keyword mentioned across the website being their brand name taking over the other potential ranking factors like backlinks, relevant content, user clicks, etc..... Thanks

Weird Bing Search Results
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can explain what's going on here, because after hours of searching I cannot find anyone having the same problem... We use Bing search to provide the site search functionality on our website and recently for a particular keyword search, the results include several pages which are not on our site: they are on completely different domains! You can replicate it by going to bing.com and using the "site:" operator together with that keyword. Again, results from other domains appear in amongst the pages on our site. I cannot find any other keywords which produce this same behaviour: every other keyword I have tried shows only results from our site. However, I obviously haven't tested absolutely every possible keyword combination. Bing isn't "padding" out the results or anything like that, because we have more than enough pages referencing this term on the site, and I'm at a total loss as to why this is happening. So, I suppose my question is: has anyone ever had this happen to them? And if so, what did they do about it? Many thanks, Dan

Top resulting sites sites for a specific keyword
I'm teaching myself SEO so that I can speak more intelligently to it with my clients. I've spent a great deal of time on seomoz and love it. The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know and that brings me to my current question. I can search on a keyword and see results, however I see every URL available. I'm looking for a simple way to see the root domains for the top 100-500 resulting websites for a specific keyword. Is there an easy way to get this information I'm sure it's right in front of me, but I can't find it. Many thanks, ahossom

Why does my Rank Checker result differ to SERPs
Hello SEOmoz members I've got yet another naive question for you. RankChecker is telling me that my client has risen to pg 1 position 7. Whilst SERPs is telling me they are still on position 14. I know that SERPs is variable depending on many factors, but this holds true for separate searches on other computers in various far flung locations. Please give me some insight into what is happening. I'm waiting to open the bubbly! Thanks

Are you getting any action from Google +1 ?
If you have added google plus one to your website you can check on the impact by visiting your webmaster tools account. In your GWT account you will see a left menu item for "+1 Metrics". If you click on "Search Impact" you can see the CTR change attributed to +1. Anybody seeing anything there yet?
