Ecommerce Website Product Rich Snippet Image
-
Greetings Mozzers,
I'm working on an ecommerce site and my goal is to have the product rich snippets on each of them however, I would like an image to start displaying in the SERPs. Looking for some guidance on this issue. Here is a well phrased questioned I found that sums up my thoughts:
Product schema has the "image" attribute, but it is not displayed in rich snippets in SERP. However, there is recipe schema and it allows to show image directly on SERP. It means that we can define two entities on a page (product and recipe, it is allowed) and it should display an image from recipe's part + the rest of information (price, availability) from product's part. I know it is a dirty hack and semantically incorrect, but will it work? If so, would it affect rankings or not? Any other drawbacks?
Thank you for any advice/clarification!

Great thought, I'll try to make sure the intent is actually have the cooking recipes for the product in a prominent place, and then have products beside it to show you can buy this product to complete your recipe.
Thanks for you time!

I'd be careful as I still don't know if Google would class a product formula as a 'recipe'. It certainly wouldn't if your product was shampoo - and I don't know if the edible nature of your product fits the bill.
A big part of Google guidelines come down to 'intent' and when a user searches recipes it's because they want to make something themselves, not buy something and that may be where you come into some conflict!
Good luck!

Thank you for your advice and thoughts on the matter. The product I'm selling is coconut oil, thus we actually do have recipes on the page as well. I'm thinking since it is a product page and we do have recipes, the potential of both displaying has to be an increased possibility.

Well I have to commend you for thinking outside the box - I've seen a few attempted approaches at this but never pulling in recipe snippets before.
Would it work - I don't think so, I think Google calls on the Rich Snippets (excluding Authorship) only in relational context. Basically what this means is Google is well aware based on the user search if someone is looking for a product or a recipe and from my understanding would likely only pull the appropriate micro-form data. That being said, I've not tested this. Your best bet would be to start by using the rich snippet test tool to see what displays (http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets)
As for what would happen if it did work - you wouldn't see any impact negatively on your SEO I imagine, but you certainly would see a spike in CTR which would ultimately boost your SEO. People love pictures and you'd be in a unique and highlighted position for that search result.
However, at this point I feel it's fair to warn you that you may be in a grey area when it comes to Google's policy. In the Rich Snippets Guidelines (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2722261?hl=en) it is discussed that webmasters have a responsibility to ensure that their information is properly represented and not misleading. While you aren't exactly tricking your clients, the fact that you are declaring a product image in the recipe category may in fact violate this policy. This policy is not an automatic one and therefore not black and white. It's really up to the Rich Snippets Manual Review team (which is surprisingly extensive). Punishments can include manual removal from the rich snippets program permanently and manual trust/quality penalties that would harm your SEO long term.
So while this may be possible, and may be temporarily beneficial I would personally advise against anything but proper micro-form markup.

Competitor using our product descriptions
Hi, We have a competitor (with a higher DA) using some content from our product pages word for word on a few of their product pages. It's only a couple paragraphs per product page (including the main product description), not the entirety of the content on the page. It also appears they have scraped some content from another authoritative competitor (and even left their brand name mentioned on it!) I've read mixed thoughts on whether plagiarized content will harm the original site, but am concerned since it is an authoritative site. Should I be concerned since it's only parts of our product page? Thank you all!

I am confused/frustrated/surprised how bad my website is doing on google ranking
Hello, I am confused/frustrated/surprised how bad my website (flyhy.co) is doing on google ranking and I have no clue why even though I have been doing my homework regarding SEO. Just a bit of background, I have created a new website about 6 months ago for the paragliding community, the primary goal is to provide a platform for people to publish their ads (osclass), but also to provide some interesting reviews and tools to help paragliders chose their wing. We have been putting a lot of effort to provide a nice user experience and tio build the tools mentioned above. Our main channel to connect with the community is Facebook, and we have been quite active there. I have looked at many SEO articles and I made sure the website provides a good UX, the URLs are SEO friendly, good meta data, etc. Also have been using the google search console and analytics to monitor all of this. But here is the thing, all these does not seem to change anything in our ranking for important keywords such as "paraglider for sale", "paragliding equipment", etc. We seem to only rank (looking at Google’s keyword tool) for very specific wing model names that people have mentioned in their ads. I have ran out of ideas on how to improve our SEO !!!!!! I know the website is only 6 months old, but by now we should get some results. As an example, I will mention one our main website competitors: www.paraglidingequipment.org. OK the URL is pretty obvious and this website ranks in page #1 for "paragliding equipment" (but also for "paraglider for sale" and other paragliding related key phrases). OK there is the URL (paraglidingequipment.org), but I thought nowadays google bots are smarter than just that. The website is 1 year old (so not really much older than us, and was ranking high anyway even 6 months ago). The website looks like it was clearly made by one person and then quickly just left it running, so no content has been added (except for people putting their ads), there is almost no activity on the Facebook account. I have run some test such as "pagespeed insights" and we both rank the same. On "seositecheckup.com", we are clearly better with more 10 points. Is there anyone out there who can tell me what is going on? Have I missed a very important aspect of SEO? Is our website somehow compromising the robots crawling (although I can see about 80 pages have been already indexed in google search console)? I know content is king, but in paraglidingequipment.org the only content I see are ads, and we have ads and other interesting (ie reviews and tools) for paragliders. To conclude, I am basically completely clueless of what to do to rank at least on the first couple of pages of google for the key phrases above. I need help. Hichem. PS: in Moz bar our score is non existing (PA=1,DA=10), on paraglidingequipment.org (PA=23,DA=15). So it looks that essentially we are not apparent on the web! PSS: We have also tried to build some backlinks on few important paragliding community websites.

How does my competitor website jump from a natural ranking of 10 to 1 in a matter of days?
OK this has really got me baffled, and I really hope the MOZ community can give me the answers I am seeking.... My statements and queries below are my own opinions and thoughts. I am not an experienced SEOer and I am learning all the time, so if I have written something incorrectly, please feel free to correct me 🙂 I have been told that natural rankings take time, and I have read with the recent algorithm changes from Google, that purchased links do not have an effect like they used to. I have also read somewhere that google has clamped down on bogus article writing (MOZ please clarify) But what I am seeking some clarification on is, how does my competitors website, that has had a natural rank of #1 in the past, suddenly drop off; for a lengthy period of time, then suddenly re-appear at #10 on page #1, then some three/four days later, hit #1? I have read that natural rankings are purely natural. I.e. a domain owner cannot pay google to boost their natural ranking. But is this really true? Why is it when I speak to a close colleague of mine in the same industry, he mentions that his maps listing has dropped off, and after making a couple of phone calls to his SEO guys in India, maybe a day or two later, magically his maps re-appear? I really am starting to question is a "natural ranking" really "natural?" I have heard that some of these SEO agencies do have some tools that dramatically effect the natural ranking of a domain. What are these tools?

Is there an SEO benefit to purchasing domains for a website?
Greetings Mozzers, I wanted to see if someone could clarify the power of domains for me a bit. Is there an SEO benefit in purchasing fresh domains for a specific website? Something that would effect certain metrics like parking keyword domains to pages that target that keyword? I'm not talking about buying pre-existing domains that have value and are for sale. I'm talking about newly registered domains. Thanks for any advice/clarification.

How to track competitor who uses another website on the url?
Hi everyone, The thing is pretty simple: I have a competitor who uses a different format of url, very similar to this: www.example.com - but he started to use a thing like this: example.mtv.com The problem is that every analysis that I make tell me something about mtv.com instead of the site I want. The url is redirected. Sorry about my english, but I think it is very clear. I want to know how to track something like this, because even in competitor analysis I'm getting info about the big site, and not the one I need. Thank you very much.

Help with website
Hello, I've been trying to get our website on 1st place (or at least 1st page to start) on several keywords, on google in all English speaking countries. In most of them I managed, but in USA I'm on 5th page. By Domain Analysis we are better than competition. Keywords are glass nail files, crystals nail files (some long tail keywords are ok, we are somewhere on top). Website: http://www.czech-glass-nail-files.com/ We worked on code, design (notice issues is just recent, because of server migration), on-page, blog. Can someone help me out with an advise? The goal is to be #1. We definitely doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. Thank you.

Alt image or allow /image in robot.txt
Howdy, Me and my co-workers had a discussion at lunch time. We wonder if we should allow /image in our robot.txt. We arent sure what rank best. Image whit keyword in it or simply had a Alt at each image and hide the /image in the robot.txt... or have a allow /image AND a alt source. P.S. At this point, we didnt work on any sitemap or link it anywhere. Ty.

Competitor Ranking High has 2 Domains, But Duplicate Website ?
I was using OSE and noticed all the backlinks to one of our competitors is there other domain name, which is the EXACT SAME website. You can enter both url's and they display the same content. They are not useing any canonical tags either. Why are they not penalized for duplicate content? And for using there own website for backlinks ? We try to do everything right, but still cannot beat them. Any thoughts on this?
