How should i optimize this page
-
Hi, i am having major problems in optimizing this page as it is a magazine site. On normal sites i have no problem in optimizing the page to get the correct keywords to come up in the search engines but since the upgrade and also because it is a magazine site, i am having problems on how i should do this.
my site is www.in2town.co.uk and i am trying to optimize the page for the following keywords
lifestyle magazine
online magazine
lifestyle news
Life and Style articles
healthy lifestyle
i am trying to make sure that google knows what the magazine is about, as i know have dropped down the rankings since the upgrade and for lifestyle magazine we were number one in google for such a long time but now we are on page 9 and this is our home page. we are seeing sites that have hardly any content ranking above us for this keyword
i have a small intro which i have just put in the past few days at the top and we have a welcome in the middle which is here.
Welcome to In2town Lifestyle Magazine

but i would like to get rid of that section as i am going to put the latest articles there. any advice on how to sort this mess out would be great

thanks for this, i have put it under the menu but not sure if it looks silly or not. have replaced the intro which was in the middle of the column with the story of the day which i will change around four times a day.
if i change this story four times a day instead of once a day would it help with google crawling my site more often. for some reason it is only according to cache visiting my site around every four days.
i use to find that if we published an article it would be in google within 24 hours or less, a lot of the times less but now it is taking around four days since we done the upgrade

I would go with a title like this:
In2Town: Online Lifestyle Magazine - Health, Lifestyle and Style News
Reads a bit better (which will help CTR) and you are getting all of your keywords within it.
Regarding the intro content, yes, content above the fold is much better and I would probably advise that you place it just below the navigation menu. I only mentioned the footer area in case that wasn't a viable option from a user experience point of view.

i was taught to get the intro to the site near to the top as possible so google sees it within the first 200 words, not sure if this is still the case or not and if so then if i put the intro on the footer would this be bad for seo or do you feel it would be great here as i would have more room.
also what words do you think i should put in the titlemany thanks for this

Hi Tim,
What I would recommend is to have an intro paragraph, like you've said, on the page in one way or another. This could be in the footer if you have nowhere else (however, I would get rid of those spammy location names that are currently there). Try to get a couple of hundred words if you can (but this isn't always the case.
I'd also have a look at your internal linking to see if you can link back to your homepage with your keywords within the deeper articles within the site. I wrote a full guide on on-page optimisation that you might find useful - http://www.wowinternet.co.uk/blog/on-page-optimisation-with-a-view-to-the-off-page-seo/
I'd also revise your current title tag on the homepage to get some more keywords in there.
Having said all of this, it isn't always possible to optimise the homepage of a site with lots of the keywords so I would place a lot more of your focus towards building relevant links to the site. Get a load of social signals pointing to the articles and, where possible, have some exact match anchor links going to the homepage from relevant websites.
Hope this helps.

Optimizing a product category vs. a bespoke content page
Hi there, I work for a furniture retailer in the UK and I have a question about ranking for search phrases. Say I'm looking to rank for the keyword phrases: 'Tempur mattress' and 'Tempur mattress liverpool' and I have a category at: www.mysite.co.uk/tempur/ which list all of our mattresses, would I be better trying to optimize this page for those key phrases or would I be better generating a new page, say, www.mysite.co.uk/tempur-mattress-liverpool.html Thank you for your input.

Critical Page Problems.
As I design my new pages I place them into the page optimizer. When I place the keyword in that I am trying to rank for my page is coming up as an A. With that said, I am still receiving error messages with critical fix results. Here is a screenshot of this: http://screencast.com/t/DuUrP8xM Curious on how I should fix this? The pages are directly on my blog which makes it accessible to search engines ( So I think). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Too many page links warning... but each link has canonical back to main page? Is my page OK?
The Moz crawl warns me many of my pages have too many links, like this page http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting ...... has 269 links but many of the links are like this /jobs/jobtitles/Accounting?k=&w=3&hiddenLocationID=463170&depth=2 and are used to refine search criteria.... when you click on those links they all have a canonical link back to http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting Is my page being punished for this? Do I have to put "no follow" tags on every link I do not want the bots to follow and if I do so is Roger (moz bot) not going to count this as a link?

What makes a "perfectly optimized page" in 2013?
Hi all, I was re-reading this blog http://moz.com/blog/perfecting-keyword-targeting-on-page-optimization and wondered how relevant you guys thought this post still was? Moz link directly to it from their 'learn' page http://moz.com/learn/seo so I'm interpreting that to mean it is still accurate and as current as it can be? What else would you add to it? Thanks,

Index Page Content
Mozers, I am of the believe and as a person who puts the utmost emphasis on the index page of any website I am trying to rank, especially with a new domain ... insuring content is relevant, structured, optimized and we have some link juice flowing in. I find once we get the index page ranked, Google's little bots then start to index and rank accordingly the rest of the website ... and we start producing results. We also develop websites (dare I say its where we expertise in) and unexpectantly the client has asked us to carry out SEO work additionally to their web development. Problem lies here, their index page, has absolutely no written content at all, just one large image with a logo (Fashion Website) ...Which I identify as a huge issue as per my explanation is paragraphs one or two. I am sure withe the many more qualified SEO experts and gurus within the SEOmoz community, you have also come across this issue So a few questions, if you don't mind adding advice. 1 - Am I putting too much emphasize on content within the index page, in terms of indexing and actually ranking ...yes I appreciate that terms within the website will be ranked against other pages other than the index page, but will it harm us for having no content at all within the index page 2 - If so, and yes is the answer to above, how do we handle it, we have spoke with the client and he is pretty adamant that he want the index page as is, he has been through out the whole website building process. As suggested, any advice would be really appreciated, its a difficult market to rank within a it is, and i can only see this index page making the task a lot more difficult Cheers John
