Moving from Shopp to WooCommerce...
-
My site is ranking well on most of my products and honestly, I don't do the best job in "on product page" SEO. I've got solid URLs for each, but my "on page" grades are mostly C, D and Fs.
I honestly feel fortunate that I'm ranking well and have "put off" doing much work knowing that I was going to change from the Shopp wordpress plugin to Woocommerce.
Is there anything structurally that will potentially hurt me from changing framework? Do I need to make sure that the URLs are the EXACT same for each of my products or will it be okay to make them better? Ex. some pages have a less desirable URL because I just "copied" the previous item.
Thanks in advance for your experience.

Did that work, David?

Hi!
You can try this one, http://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/screenshots/ if you expirence so called redirect loops after you install this plugin, you should inactivate it. Let me know if it works with Yoast!

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm using Yoast SEO. I've moved over to using it instead of all-in-one SEO. Robert, can you suggest a redirect plugin? I don't have any experience messing the htaccess files.

Hi David,
Its a good thing that you have decided to work with Woocommerce, since its well optimized for SEO, and in the latest version, schema is included. Be sure that you redirect (301) your old urls to the new urls. You can do that with a redirection plugin or via the htaccess file, I prefere htaccess. Are you working with the Wordpress SEO plugin?
Good luck!
/Robert

Redirect if you plan on changing URLs. One thing you have to make sure is having all URLs in an excel sheet and create redirects for each one that is changed.
You'd also have to make sure to import all your descriptions and title tags etc etc.
Those are some of the main hurdles in SEO and changing carts or CMS.

1 duplicate I have recently transfered my old html site to wordpress.
To keep the urls the same I am using a plugin which appends .htm at the end of each page. My old site home page was index.htm. I have created index.htm in wordpress as well but now there is a conflict of duplicate content. I am using latest post as my home page which is index.php Question 1.
Should I also use redirect 301 im htaccess file to transfer index.htm page authority (19) to www.example.com If yes, do I use
Redirect 301 /index.htm http://www.example.com/index.php
or
Redirect 301 /index.htm http://www.example.com Question 2
Should I change my "Home" menu link to http://www.example.com instead of http://www.example.com/index.htm that would fix the duplicate content, as indx.htm does not exist anymore. Is there a better option? Thanks0 -

Best way to move a page without 301
I have a page that currently ranks high for its term. That page is going away for the main website users, meaning all internal site links pointing to that page are going away and point to a new page. Normally you would just do a 301 redirect to the new URL however the old URL will still need to remain as a landing page since we send paid media traffic to that URL. My question is what is the best way to deal with that? One thought was set up a canonical tag, however my understanding is that the pages need to be identical or very close to the same and the landing page will be light on content and different from the new main page. Not topically different but not identical copy or design, etc.

Moving low ranking domain
I have a website, that I rewrote great content for, but I recently found that there are many, many links going to the subdomain that may be pulling it down. Has anyone had experience taking down a site and then moving the content to a new site? Will it be considered duplicate content if you completely take the old site down and use rel="canonical" on new site pages? I don't want to lose the good content, but I cannot have it on the current URL with all the bad backlinking (it's a complicated situation, as I need to keep those backlinks which are affiliates). Thank you.

301 redirects and Blogger - moving blog
Is there any way to add 301 redirects to individual posts on a blogger-hosted blog? We're getting ready to finally move our blog off of Blogger and onto our own webserver. We're probably going to use BlogEngine.net to run it. right now the blog is located at blog.MySite.com. We're probably going to move it to MySite.com/Blog. We don't have any really popular posts and we only really get ~10 visits a day on about 70 posts. Just trying to figure out the best way to handle this without inadvertently shooting myself in the foot.

Moving a database from a sub folder to a new domain
Hi Mozzers, I have a very popular property database on a subfolder of my main website. It accounts for about 2 thirds of my overall traffic. I'm moving the database to a new server, so my choices are now a sub domain or completely new domain. If I move my database to a new domain, will my main site lose SEO because of how popular the database is? Cheers Matt
