301 Redirects
-
Moz pro have crawled my site a few times now and is reporting 105 cases of 301 redirect.
Looking at some examples IE
http://www.indigocarhire.co.uk/faq/young-driver-car-hire/bromley
redirected to
http://www.indigocarhire.co.uk/faq/young-driver-car-hire/bromley/
only difference i can see is the traling /.... there is nothing set up in webmaster or in the website itself, so how come this and another 104 are being flagged as 301
Appreciate any help or advice
Thanks

Really appreciate your help Lynn

Hi Robert,
It must be in your htaccess file, 301 redirects don't happen by themselves (perhaps this is the default wordpress htaccess behavior now?, I cannot recall off hand).
If you want to get rid of the notices and reduce the 301 redirects on the site as much as possible (which is best practice) then yes export the list and see where the pages that 301 are referenced from. One example I see is here http://www.indigocarhire.co.uk/uk-car-hire/scotland/ where the last link to Dundee airport is without a slash. If you add the slash then you have gotten rid of one of those notices! I expect you will find that they all slipped in through a common process, but it shouldn't take long to sort them out.

HI Lynn, i see the option in Yoast but it is unchecked.
So you suggest that i export the list, visit each URL and add a trailing / to those missing them?
Really appreciate your help Lynn, Chris & Michael

Hi Robert,
I suspect you have checked the 'enforce a trailing slash' option in the Yoast SEO plugin (under the permalinks section) but are linking to the pages without the trailing slash somewhere on your site. If you download the moz report in csv you can filter the results for 301 redirects = true and then the far right hand column will tell you which page linked to it. They are notices by the way not errors.

Hey Robert, give these answers pertaining your question a read and see if they help:

That is definitely a 301 redirect to the trailing slash URL. Good tool to check with is Fiddler.
Unless you have amended the htaccess file directly then a plugin must be making this setting, possibly something like the Robots Meta plugin.

If I have an https page with an http img that redirects to an https img, is it still considered by google to be a mixed content page?
With Google starting to crack down on mixed content I was wondering, if I have an https page with an http img that redirects to an https img, is it still considered by Google to be a mixed content page? e.g. In an old blog article, there are images that weren't updated when the blog migrated to https, but just 301ed to new https images. is it still considered a mixed content page?

What happens when a de-indexed subdomain is redirected to another de-indexed subdomain? What happens to the link juice?
Hi all, We are planning to de-index and redirect a sub domain A to sub domain B. Consequently we now need to d-index sub domain B also. What happens now to the link juice or page rank they gained from hundreds and thousands of backlinks? Will there be any ranking impact on main domain? Backlinks of these sub domains are not much relevant to main domain content. Thanks

Too many wordpress redirects impact Rankings?
Our website cms is WordPress. We have recently changed the URL pattern of our blog pages which resulted in hundreds of crawl errors in Google search console. Even though we don't have any broken links; old pages have been reported at Google. We are trying to redirect the old URLs to new which will be handled by auto redirects or manual redirects. Will so many redirects impact on website? I don't mean about internal redirects. I mean about redirects made for the cause of reclaiming non existing pages referred from external sites

Landing page redirect along with complete content
Hi Moz community, We have a page with "keyword" we are targeting in slug like website.com/keyword/. This page doesn't have much back-links or visits like homepage. So we decided to redirect homepage to /keyword page along with complete content. Will this going to hurt? Only change anybody can notice is URL. Are there any risks involved. I think this is the best way to highlight the page we been thinking about. Thanks

Now i want to redirect first site which already has 400 links pointing towards it to the home page of my 2nd android site. Is it a good idea to do so and does it give any boost in terms of seo?

Question About : Redirecting Old Pages to New & More Relevant Ones
I'm looking over a friends website, which used to have great natural ranking for some big keywords. Those ranking & CTR's have dropped a lot, so the next thing I checked into was top selling Brand & Category pages. Its seems like every year or so a New Page was constructed for each brand... Many of which have high quality and natural inbound links. However, the pages no longer have products and simply look outdated. I'm trying to figure out if they should place redirects on all the old pages to a new URL which is more seo friendly. Example Links : http://www.xyz.com/nike2004.html , http://www.xyz.com/nike-spring2006.html , http://www.xyz.com/2011-nike-shoes.html - (have quality inbound links, bad content) .... Basically would it be advantageous to place redirects on all of these example pages to a new one that will be more permanent... http://www.xyz.com/nike-shoes.html I'm also looking at about 15 brands and maybe 100+ old/outdated urls, so I wasn't sure if I should do this & to what extent. Considering many of the brand pages do rank, but not as well as they should... Any input would help, thanks

Redirected old domain to new, how long before seeing the external links under the new domain?
Before contracting SEO services, my client decided to change his established root domain to one more customer-friendly. Since he had no expertise on board, no redirects were set up until 6 months later. I ran stats right before the old domain was redirected and have a report showing that he had roughly 750 external links from 300 root domains. We redirected the old domain to the new domain in mid Jan 2012. Those external links are still not showing in Open Site Explorer for the new domain. I've tested it a dozen times, and the old domain definitely points to the new domain. How long should it take before the new domain picks up those external links? Should I do anything else to help the process along?

301 redirect question
So I have an employer who owns a retail site and his category URLs are horrible. So, I am suggesting to him to create a new page with a pretty URL and 301 redirect the old page to the new page. I am suggesting this to him, because this will help increase CTR for the targeted keyword & help him rank higher for the term. He is apprehensive about this cause he thinks this will cause him to drop in ranking. Does anybody know any resources or have any past experiences that will back up my suggestion or his for that matter?
