Duplicate Page Title error for an eCommerce store !!
-
I currently launched my eCommerce startup hosted in Shopify and linked with MOZ. From my first Crawl Report I am getting 580 Duplicate Page Title i.e. all my Collection page have the same title. I have googled and have been checking the MOZ community but cannot find a fix to it. Some of the URL's are -
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all?page=10
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all?page=100
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all?page=101
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all?page=102
http://www.onlypetstore.com/collections/all?page=103
I am new to SEO and any suggestions will be a great help to me.

Actually I would suggest something totally different. What platform are you on?
Send a variable to the title tag that prints out the page number to the title tag. If you are on page 1 have no page number printed out. That will solve the issue. If you happen to be using Prestashop something like this would work perfect for you, http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/prestashop-modules/25-duplicate-url-redirect.html it handles that.

ok, then something else is wrong... i will check that as well but my office hours will end now... will be back tommorrow... hold on
-
Thank you for your answers.
I am getting 6 Duplicate Page Content and 527 Duplicate Page Title errors. I did do what you told me to rel=canonical for the first page but will check that part again.
-
duplicate content is often closely connected to a duplicate page title - but mainly not with shops
how many duplicate content errors do you have?
You have to imagine, that you always present the same title according to the fact, that you`ve several sites to let your customers scroll through. Tell the Google Bot, which url he should index by using rel=canonical
Together with rel="next" & rel="prev" this should solve the issue
Have you done that?
-
The pagination part has been done like that to facilitate infinite scrolling.
Can you tell me where to start or just a brief on what need to be done rest I will dig it up.
-
you have also a pagination problem... take a closer look at rel="prev" & rel="next" methode
I am sorry but it
s a huge topic... this can
t be answered shortly without avoiding mistakes in detailed explanations

What's my best strategy for Duplicate Content if only www pages are indexed?
The MOZ crawl report for my site shows duplicate content with both www and non-www pages on the site. (Only the www are indexed by Google, however.) Do I still need to use a 301 redirect - even if the non-www are not indexed? Is rel=canonical less preferable, as usual? Facts: the site is built using asp.net the homepage has multiple versions which use 'meta refresh' tags to point to 'default.asp'. most links already point to www Current Strategy: set the preferred domain to 'www' in Google's Webmaster Tools. set the Wordpress blog (which sits in a /blog subdirectory) with rel="canonical" to point to the www version. Ask programmer to add 301 redirects from the non-www pages to the www pages. Ask programmer to use 301 redirects as opposed to meta refresh tags & point all homepage versions to www.site.org. Does this strategy make the most sense? (Especially considering the non-indexed but existent non-www pages.) Thanks!!

Duplicate Content
Crawl Diagnostics is returning duplicate content/title tags for every product image on listing pages of my classified site because each image is on a separate url. So this page, for example, http://marketplace.myclassicgarage.com/cars/all/Chevrolet-Bel-Air/24481/ has, among other things, the same title tag as all this page, http://marketplace.myclassicgarage.com/cars/all/Chevrolet-Bel-Air/24481/media/151968 which is one of many different images that are all child pages in the folder /media In this particular case there are over 140 pages with the same title tag because there are over 140 images for this particular car. That is just one listing and there are over 1,000 listings (vehicles) and that number will grow. Is this really a problem? With limited resources, what real positive effect will making all these images have unique title tags really have from a SERP perspective? Keep in mind this being user generated content, there is no way to descriptively update the title tags to something like <title>Bel Air Passenger Side Profile</title>. That is not feasible.

Crawl Diagnostics 403 on home page...
In the crawl diagnostics it says oursite.com/ has a 403. doesn't say what's causing it but mentions no robots.txt. There is a robots.txt and I see no problems. How can I find out more information about this error?

How long will it take for Page Rank (or Page Authority) to flow via a 301 redirect?
I've recently redeveloped a static site using WordPress and have created 301 redirects for the original urls to the new urls. I know I won't get all the value passed via the 301, but I'm hoping some will. Any idea how long this may take? It's been nearly a month since the changeover so wondering if it would be weeks, months or more?

Why does SEOMoz think I have duplicate content?
The SEOmoz crawl report shows me a large amount of duplicate content sites. Our site is built on a CMS that creates the link we want it to be but also automatically creates it's own longer version of the link (e.g. http://www.federalnational.com/About/tabid/82/Default.aspx and http://www.federalnational.com/about.aspx). We set the site up so that there are automatic redirects for our site. Google Webmaster does not see these pages as duplicate pages. Why does SEOmoz consider them duplicate content? Is there a way to weed this out so that the crawl report becomes more meaningful? Thanks!

Current on-page best practices
Given all the recent talk about over optimization, when was the last time SEOMoz updated the on-page report card tool? Rand wrote an excellent piece on Perfect On-Page Optimization (which is great, and thanks) in summer 2009. Is that still best practice 3 years later (and post-Penguin/Panda)? If not, has the SEOMoz on-page report card tool been updated to reflect current thinking for on-page best-practices? I know the higher level concept is "write for humans, not for bots" but if you can do both (and not create an unreadable seo-frankenpage) then why not? Does getting an "A" grade wreak of over optimization now? Should I use the key phrase at the start of the title, h1, and strong (or bold) elements on a page? Should have an image with file name and alt text equal to (or containing at the start) the key phrase?

Why aren't canonical tags reducing duplicate page title/content?
We have canonical tags set up for a feature page on one of our sites. This site has an image gallery controlled by javascript. To aid the user experience the image can also be specified by a URL parameter (the javascript also uses this URL to fetch the images). The SEOMoz report complains that the links to these images have duplicate page titles and content. To try and combat this we set canonical tags to point only to the original page, without the slideshow parameter. e.g. http://www.example.com/feature-page/ http://www.example.com/feature-page/?slideshow=1 -> canonical tag set to http://www.example.com/feature-page/ http://www.example.com/feature-page/?slideshow=2 -> canonical tag set to http://www.example.com/feature-page/ The latest SEOMoz report has come back and the errors still exist. What can we do to remove these error messages? Thanks
