-
Hi Moz,
As I am shocked to see sudden drop in my client website himachalpackagetour.com sudden dropped its ranking, here I am sharing single keyword "himachal tour packages" rank = 10th into rank = 250th in Google.co.in ? How it could have happened , I didn't even touch anything with the website.
Let me tell How, Why it happened and suggest me to get it back same ranking.
Thanks in Advance.
Best,
Teginder -
Hi @mat, But the website www.himachalpackagetour.com doesn't have any issue of drop ranking in Yahoo/Bing(india) than Google.co.in(india) WHY, Do Yahoo/Bing(india) algo work differently any rank website in their SERPs than Google.
ranking of keyword : "himachal tour packages"
Yahoo/Bing(india) : 1st page
Google.co.in(india) : Not in TOP 100 rankRegards,
Teginder -
Thanks @Richard, This process would definitely be going to help me a lot in order to gain some strength in the website.
-
Well you're removing bad links, I would also suggest creating awesome content.
You work in the adventure and traveling industry so target bloggers who have been to your location or would be interested in going. Offer them free visits, in exchange for a review.
-
Great @mat, Now let me start doing all these until I get back the results I want.
I must inform or reply back same here , once the problem gets resolved getting same ranking.
Thank You So Much!!!
Best,

_ but could you confirm thatbuilding long term acquisition of higher quality links will be back my ranking soon_
I think it is your best bet. I can't promise that it will work and neither can I promise that it will work quickly. However, without auditing your site, I would say that it very likely what you need.
-
Thanks again @mat for your kind help. Let me follow your advice tips and implement them to get back. It's really not easy to nail down all those crappy spammy or bad links in once, but I will have to do this all.
As you said, Removing more links doesn't fix that - sounds right , but could you confirm that building long term acquisition of higher quality links will be back my ranking soon, or I will have to do first removing those crappy spammy or bad links.

It's still relatively early days for Penguin 2.1 so it is hard to give concrete advice. However, the best approach would seem to be a familiar pattern:
- Identify bad / low quality backlinks
- Remove those that you can
- Disavow those that you can't
- Come up (and execute!) strategies for long term acquisition of higher quality links
Personally I think that #4 is where most people should be focusing most energy. I think that a lot of what looks like penalty is actually just a "correction". Links that were previously passing value no longer do, leaving sites without the authority to compete. Removing more links doesn't fix that. Obtaining new ones will.
Good luck with it. It's not easy, but the rewards are there to be had.
-
Yes, Thanks @mat you are right, it was dropped near around the update of Penguin 2.1 (#5) — October 4, 2013 and caused down my ranking. Could you please help or guide me with tips or tactics to get back on same ranking positions.
Regards,
Teginder -
One of the quickest ways to diagnose many sudden ranking changes is to check the Google Algorithm Change history that Dr Pete maintains here: http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change
If there have been not recent changes to the site and no external factors (big shifts in link patterns for instance) then a change in the algo is the likeliest cause of sudden change. These can be spotted by the dates when changes occur. Look at your traffic stats (or ranking reports if you check frequently) and try to pin down the date of the change. Compare that with the change history page and you have a good idea of whether it was an algo change impacting you.
Doing this also gives you some good insights in to how to then deal with the traffic change. With each algorithm update we get clues as to what is going on. Learn what you can about the update that impacted you and take lessons from that.

Time to Separate Company Websites or Keep it on One Domain?
Hey Everyone! I am completely stumped with what I should do for the scenario I find myself in… I’m hoping with your experience, you could guide me into the right direction. Let’s say our current website is Brown.com (Brown Group Inc.). We have a splash page, which links to two subfolders Brown Minerals (Brown.com/Minerals) and Brown Pet Products (Brown.com/Pet). Both of these are separate companies but owned by Brown Group Inc. Each company specializes in different industries, sell different products, have different customers and have different marketing. The only common thing the two companies have is the brand name “Brown” and owned by the same person. Brown Group Inc.

(Brown.com) Brown Minerals
(Brown.com/Minerals) Brown Pet Products
(Brown.com/Pet) I work specifically for Brown Minerals. It is my job to develop a new website, build traffic to our website, improve our SEO rankings and to build the Brown Minerals online brand. I am afraid that the work I will be putting into building our online brand may not be as effective since we share the same domain name with Brown Pet Products, which their website is outdated, they have their own traffic, links, etc. specifically for their products & industry. My question is, should we keep both websites in subfolders on the existing domain name or should we separate the websites and put them on their own domain names (BrownMinerals.com and BrownPetProducts.com)? Thank you0 -

Need your professional feedback for a client
Hey everyone! I have a client that got a $500 proposal from some agency that summarized their work as follows. I'm literally copy and pasting this: Directory submission - 100/mo Targeted keywords - 5 Blogs writing - 1 per month Articles writing - 1 per month Blog posting - 10 per month Article posting - 10 per month Deep linking - 20/month Classifieds - 02/month Press Release - 01/month Yahoo Answer - 02/month Local Listing - 01/month Comments on blogs - 02/month Social bookmarking - 10/month Social media optimization - 10/month Regional directories submissions - 20/month Search engine submissions - 10/month This is a national company with a strong brand. Nowhere in this "proposal" is any mention of onsite optimization, any real content marketing, infographics, brand mentions, nothing... I have explained at length that the tasks they are suggesting are a terrible idea, that they will likely get penalized and that most budgets at this range are usually ill advised. The agency has even admitted that they source this overseas to illegitimate firms. I would love it if I could go to this meeting and have some community feedback as to why this is a bad idea. Please share your experiences, best practices and why most of these tasks are going to get them penalized. Thanks everyone 🙂 Kevin

Do rankings return to previous rank after a site has been un-indexed?
My client has had a site since 1996 (the first one was a www subdomain, his current site has no www). He came to my company for SEO about a year ago, after having a WordPress site that was accidentally set to not be crawled/indexed by search engines. We set the site to be indexed and added a blog. Since then, he has had slow increase in keyword rankings (on page 3 or most globally searched terms) but is still nowhere near page 1 for most of his keywords. He thinks my company has done nothing, while I see the keyword improvements as a sign of success - slow, gradual - but going in the right direction. I don't know if he was ranking well before he had a site that was not set to be indexed - but if he was on page one, would he eventually return there? Or do we have to build everything over again?

Will Google ever begin penalising bad English/grammar in regards to rankings and SEO?
Considering Google seem to be on a great crusade with all their algorithm updates to raise the overall "quality" of content on the Internet, i'm a bit concerned with their seeming lack of action towards penalising sites that contain terrible English. I'm sure you've all noticed this when you attempt to do some proper research via Google and come across an article that "looks" to be what you're after, then you click through and realise it's obviously been either put together in a rush by someone not paying attention or putting much effort in, or been outsourced for cheap labour to another country whose workers aren't (close to being) native speakers. It's getting really old trying to make sense of articles that have completely incorrect grammar, entirely missing words, verb tenses that don't make any sense, randomly over-extravagant adjectives thrown in just as padding, etc. etc. No offense to all those from non-native speaking countries who are attempting to make a few bucks online, but this for me is becoming by far more of an issue in terms of "quality" of information online as opposed to some of the other search issues that are being given higher priority, and it just seems strange that Google have been so blasé about it up to this point - especially given so many of these articles and pages are nothing more than outsourced filler for cheap traffic. I understand it's probably hard to code in something so advanced, but it would go a long way towards making the web a better place in my opinion. Anyone else feeling the same way? Thoughts?

Best way to charge my clients...........I think I finally decided
I have struggled with the best way to charge my clients FOREVER it seems and I think I finally have decided on how to proceed! ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (I have read the seomoz blog posts about the subject, the Art of SEO and Search Engine Optimization Secrets book and tons of blogs, etc). I got into this business because of what I was able to accomplish with my party rental companies website and what I had studied and read for months and months. Without knowing any better I tried to get into SEO and online marketing and fell straight into designing websites and subcontractors and hosting and everything EXCEPT seo work! sound familiar? I CAN'T be the only one this happened to 🙂 I have regrouped and finally gotten my FIRST pure SEO client. They agreed to pay me $3,000 over 6 months for JUST recommendations with monthly reporting on traffic, # of links, etc. My plan is to charge clients X amount of dollars broken up over 6 months - $2-5k. (that will include monthly reporting) for a list of recommendations. (on page, link opportunities, design suggestions, kw suggestions, email campaign, on and on). NO MORE $400-500 FOR A WHOLE WEBSITE - INCLUDING CONTENT CREATION! (I was stupid enough to do this - TWICE! I like doing it this way so I can focus on giving them maximum value right from the get go and not slowing spoon feeding my knowledge out to them or them getting burned out after 2 months and not wanting to continue because they haven't seen a miracle yet. I will justify the clients investment by dividing that lump sum by $75 an hour (low for some of you I know) and track the time I spend researching links, their competitors, their on page, etc. and include it in my monthly report. I plan to give my first client their report in a few weeks and it will be pretty comprehensive but not EVERY thing I can think of but enough to impress. They are welcome to pursue the links I found, make the site changes, etc themselves OR I will be happy to have ALL my recommendations implemented for them for a reasonable, fair amount. If they want me to do it I will explain my staff will be doing the work and it will be $25 +/- an hour vs. $75 Sorry for the long post and thanks for hanging in there if you read this far! 🙂 I would love any suggestions or flaws with my plan! Thanks in advance and have an AWESOME week! Matthew

My websites Internal page is not ranking.
Hi, I had "x1", "x2","x3" keywords ranked for my websites internal page that is "www.somesite.com/internal-page.htm" i was fairly doing well for my keywords mostly in top 5, but now the case is from last couple of weeks, my internal page url is gone & replaced with home page. And I don't see internal page anywhere mostly in top 1000, is that penalty to internal page ?If yes how can i troubleshoot this ? I see my other pages in top 20-30 but that specific page is not anywhere. Please let me know. -Sunny.
