Businesses That Have 2 Trading Addresses
-
Hi,
I have a quick question regarding Local SEO. We have a building company that operates from 2 addresses, about 70 miles apart. When we changed the address in the footer of our website to a different registered office the rankings for that local area bombed.
What I would like to know is if there is a way I can properly mark up the site so that Google recognizes the same business works from 2 locations.
Thanks

I would think that using the subOrganization schema markup to denote the "secondary" location and imply which location is the "primary" business location and should be served/favored as the default may help take it a step further.

Hi Denis,
In addition to marking up your complete business NAP (name, address, phone number) using Schema.org, as referenced by Federico, your website should have a unique page for each of your two locations. These pages should feature the schema-encoded NAP and unique, strong content about each of the locations. You should also be building separate citations for the two locations, provided they are both public-facing entities to which customers come or from which your workers go to serve customers. They must have separate phone numbers and each qualifies for a unique Google+ Local page if it meets all of the criteria I have just described.
There's a good chance your rankings are dropping because of Google losing trust in the location data they have about your business after you replaced one address with the other in your footer. Your website is an extremely authoritative source for NAP info, in Google's eyes. If they think you've moved, and what they are finding on your website doesn't match what they are finding web-wide about your location/phone, then rankings can definitely suffer.
Put both addresses in the footer and on the contact us page. On the two office landing pages on the website, put only the NAP for the respective office. Do a citation audit to be certain that all third party references to the business NAP are featuring totally consistent information and linking to a consistent designated page on the website. For example, if you have an office in San Francisco and another in Los Angeles, all citations for the SF business should link to the SF page on the website, and the same goes for the LA location. Consistency is absolutely vital.

I think you can use data markup to add both your addresses at the same time in one single page...

HELP! Google Business listing removed - check out my SERP free fall!
Hey Moz Community, I need your help. I have (had) a google local business listing. I made some changes last week to clean it up. Now it's gone and I've had a massive fall in my rankings (see images). Changes I made: I changed the business name from a spammy name: BYOL Graphic Design & Web Design Courses. TO: **Bring Your Own Laptop PTY LTD. ** I added Local business schema to my website. I added my telephone, address etc. Previously it was all an image. I tinkered with a few other things while I was there too but I can't remember them all. Other notes: Initially I blamed the dramatic drop on Hummingbird but after doing some research I'm not so sure. I think it's because I was messing around with Google Local. My listing is/was here: https://plus.google.com/111689574762050943425 (though it doesn't work any more). My website is www.bringyourownlaptop.com.au Questions: Do you think the loss of my Google local listing could be the cause of such a big drop? If it is my Google local listing - Is there a way to find out what I did wrong? Is there a place to ask for it to be re-checked? Is it better to just start again with a new listing? Do you think it's tied together with a Hummingbird change some how? What else can I check? What would you do? Thanks for your time. Dan

Are there SEO implications to blocking foreign IP addresses?
We are dealing with a foreign company that has completely ripped off our entire site template, design and branding. This is such an inconvenience and we've had similar things happen enough in the past that we're considering blocking large ranges of IP addresses from accessing our site, via htaccess. Is this something that will potentially cause problems with search engine bots crawling or indexing our site? We are in the US and our site is hosted in the US, but I'm not sure if the major search engines could potentially be using foreign based bots. Looking for any insight on this or if there are any other potential SEO problems to consider. Thanks

Hcards - Business or Personal?
Hi All, To my knowledge, Hcards for rich snippets are generally used by bloggers etc. I would like to use the business logo rather than a photo of myself, as well as the business twitter, G+ local profiles and Bio for the business. The Author page will be the "about us" page with info about the company. Is this OK? Or does it have to be personal?

Google places address missing
I have a google places acct that used to rank fairly well. Then i changed addresses and updated the places account. It stopped ranking and whats worse is that the address will not show up in the listing. I have gone back in and edited it, verified it, done everything, but the address does not show on the places page or google results. It shows the city but not the actual address. Ideas?

What's the website that analyzes all local business submissions?
I was recently looking at a blog post here or a webinar and it showed a website where you could see all of the local sites (yelp, Google places) where your business has been submitted. It was an automated tool. Does anyone remember the name of the site?

If non-paying customers only get a 2 min snippet of a video, can my video length in sitemap.xml be the full length?
I am working on a website that all of its primary contents are videos. They have an assortment of free videos, but the majority or viewable only with a subscription to the site. If you don't have a subscription, you can see a 2 min video clip of the contents of the video. But all the videos can be anywhere from 10min to 1.5 hours. When I am auto-generating the sitemap.xml, can I put the full length of the videos for paying members in the XML in the video:duration property? Or because publicly only 2 minutes is available (unless you pay for a membership) is that frowned upon?
