Replacing Slider Image WordPress
-
Hi Everyone,
I decided to delete my slider from my homepage and replace it with a static image. However, after I deleted the slider, I'm left with a dark square where the slider used to be. I want to put my new static image in that same spot, but have no idea how. Does anyone know where or what code I should add to do that?
The page is www.kempruge.com
The WP Forums never seem to be too helpful for me, but Moz always is!
Thanks in advance,
Ruben

Unfortunately this really depends on who designed the template. I would try to track that down
- Go to your Wordpress dashboard
- Click on "Appearance"
- Look at "Current Theme". The name of the theme should be here, and often the author, and the author's website. From there it is much easier to get support for your particular theme.
Many Sliders are also plugins:
- Go to your dashboard
- Click on "Plugins"
- Look for a plugin that says "Slider" or something to that nature. A couple of popular sliders include "Revolution Slider" and 'Cute Slider WP".
- Again look for author details. They may be able to help.
The question of how to fix it really depends a lot on who made the theme or plugin. Often on old themes/plugins its hard to get immediate help but you may find a forum that has the answer to your question. If its a new theme/plugin the author or company that made it is likely is somewhere waiting to provide answers.

Hi Ruben,
I'm going to ask the same question Tim did, as it has been a few weeks since he asked and it appears that you have replaced the slider with a static image (or deactivated the slider controls so that the slider appears static. Would love an update, thanks!

Hey Tim,
No, I just replaced it with the old slider that I really want to get rid of. I just can't afford to have a dark square sitting there while I try to figure out what to do. When I deactivate the slider, the dark square is where the slider images would be.
I thought I could just put a static image there, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey Ruben,
I don't see the dark square you are referring to. Did you already get this resolved?
Tim

Migration from HTML to Wordpress - SEO Implications?
I am in the process of having a wordpress site developed to replace my current HTML site. (I currently have my website in html and a blog in wordpress in a sub directory). I am doing this in phases to try and preserve as much of my good rankings as possible. My first phase is to replicate my site with the exact same pages, meta data, and site structure. I'm hoping that google will see this as not much change and not change my rankings for the worse. I also made it a goal that my site speed tests be at least equal to what they are now. We will have to 301 all of the URLs however since it will be going from /example.html to /example. I believe my blog will also need to move into the root directory as well, so I need to 301 all of those pages. I plan to wait a couple months for Phase 2. Phase 2 involves replacing old content (photo galleries), and introducing new content (virtual tours, videos, new pages, etc.) One of my reasons for moving to wordpress is to keep up with current trends a little easier since I have very little time. (I am owner, website maintainer, SEO - all on my own). My question here is three parts. 1. Do you think this strategy will work to preserve my current rankings? 2. Do you have any lessons learned or advice to share with me to make this as smooth as possible? 3. Do I really need to wait to add new content? I might get antsy and want to do it sooner! 🙂 Thank you in advance!

Can Image File Names be Masked?
If we "mask" file names for our website but they are left their original name on the server, will Google notice this? Client wants to mask them in order to name them with keywords but not change on the actual server.

Drupal vs. Wordpress
I'm working with a site that is built completely in Drupal - including the blog. As we begin on a content strategy initiative the blog is vitally important but lacks core SEO functionality and is cumbersome for the content teams to work with as they have no technical background. While there will be more work required (moving the blog to a sub-domain or separate URL) to play nice with the broader drupal environment I believe it may be the better choice to move over to Wordpress and port over any existing content worth keeping. Has anyone encountered a similar scenario or have an opinion on either platform? Love to hear your thoughts both pros and cons. Thanks in advance.

Is there any negative SEO effect when using Wordpress for your Blog?
I have a site entirely done in html, no CMS used. The blog page however, is wordpress. Wondering if this will effect us negatively in terms of SEO, having the blog that is linked to our site, a wordpress site. My gut is absolutely not, but the questions was asked....what do you think?

Should we include our header logo in a sprite or leave it as a regular image?
We are combining the images in our header and footer into sprites. We noticed that when we include our header logo in the sprite, we lose the "alt" text associated with the header logo. Is this undesirable? Would it be better to leave the logo in our header as an image with "alt" text? Here's the link: http://www.ccisolutions.com

Image sliders & site speed
We are having a new website designed using WordPress and the Genesis framework. We wanted to include header image sliders on a number of internal site pages, but our designer says that sliders on more than just the home page will slow down the site significantly. How much could they slow down the site, and what can be done to minimize their effect on site speed?

Replaceing text prices with graphics
Hello all: You probably noticed Google showing product prices in SERP snippets and this did not do us well because there was a noticable drop off in click throughs to the site with the price displaying in snippet. So we're replacing them with graphic prices instead. Does anyone see a problem with that in as far as how Google ranks our pages? Thanks!
