Changing the Timeframe of Historical Crawl Data
-
Hello,
Just read a great post about the implications of duplicate content for sites after the most recent Panda update:
In the post is an image or crawl data history that shows months, not days or weeks, worth of trending data as it relates to duplicate content.
So my question is this:
How do I change my view/date range on my own campaigns so that I can view the trailing months of data rather than only what seems to be the past 4 weeks or so? This would really help me identify the impact of some on page changes we've recently made for a client.
Many Thanks,
Jared

Sorry for the very slow response. Your data is still there (nothing lost), and is displayed historically in the graphs, but the detailed data is only shown for the latest week or day. We have 2 projects on our roadmap that will make this better in the platform. The first is monthly timeframes, so you can see changes in larger chunks over months instead of weeks. The other, is the ability to look at the detail data for past weeks (and months when that is in place). I don't have a timeframe on historical yet, but we should have more clarity around our plans for that feature in January.

I have a campaign that has been configured for a month (trial) which we upgraded into a paid package... can only see the last week... has historic data been lost?

Hi Jared,
It looks like this is cleared up, but wanted to follow up.
Pete's correct in that we only collect data from the start of a campaign, but will collect and display it for months following. In the future, we will be looking to add finer control so that long histories can be better displayed and managed.
Please let me know if there are other things we can do with this feature to make it better for you!
Thanks,
Adam

No worries - I know we're looking to add to the history functionality, but I'm not sure if you can control the date-range yet. I pinged the product team, so they'll chime in if they can tell you something I can't.

You know, looking at my other campaigns I'd imagine you're right on. Sorry, I didn't even think of that before I asked the question. In fact, maybe it was wishful thinking on my part that I had more data for this particular client.
Thanks for the quick response.

I think we only collect data from when the campaigns are first created, so it might vary depending on the account age, but I'll check that with the product team and get back to you. That graph was just the default for me.

Why did Moz crawl our development site?
In our Moz Pro account we have one campaign set up to track our main domain. This week Moz threw up around 400 new crawl errors, 99% of which were meta noindex issues. What happened was that somehow Moz found the development/staging site and decided to crawl that. I have no idea how it was able to do this - the robots.txt is set to disallow all and there is password protection on the site. It looks like Moz ignored the robots.txt, but I still don't have any idea how it was able to do a crawl - it should have received a 401 Forbidden and not gone any further. How do I a) clean this up without going through and manually ignoring each issue, and b) stop this from happening again? Thanks!

Quarterly Reports Show Odd Data
I've pulled a quarterly report for a client, and it's showing very odd numbers. I'm monitoring 58 keywords - and the current keyword ranking report from last week says that there are 21 keywords in the top 3 and 33 on the first page. But the quarterly report says that there are 50 in the top 3 and 70 on the first page??? What's up with this?

Why can't I change the domain being tracked in my campaign?
Apologies if this has already been answered a million times and/or if I'm posting this in the wrong place... I did look, but couldn't find the answer anywhere... I just realized that all this time I have been tracking www.mydomain.com in my campaign for a long time now, while I should probably have been tracking *.mydomain.com. I wanted to change this, but it looks like I can't. If I have to set up a whole new campaign, with all of the same keywords, competitive sites to track, etc., that will take forever. Why can't I just change it so that my campaign starts tracking *.mydomain.com instead of www.mydomain.com from now on? Thank you!

No data showing in SiteExplorer
For this site: www.cooperator.biz/ I see no backlinks in SEO Moz Open SiteExplorer but Majestic SEO is showing 13 unique domains linking to it. I regularly encounter zero data for sites that I know have backlinks, why is this? If it's a problem with crawling them, why would I continue to use SEO Moz when other SEO services are showing me links? Kind regards, Rich

Crawl Diagnostics Report Lacks Information
When I look at the crawl diagnostics, SEOMoz tells me there are 404 errors. This is understandable, because some pages were removed. What this report doesn't tell me is how those pages were discovered. This is a very important piece of information, because it would tell me there are links pointing to those pages, either internal or external. I believe the internal links have been removed. If the report told me how if found the link, I would be able to take immediate action. Without that information, I have to go so a lot of investigation. And when you have a million pages, that isn't easy. Some possibilities: The crawler remembered the page from the previous crawl. There was a link from an index page - i.e. it is in the database still There was an individual link from another story - so now there are broken links Ditto, but it in on a static index page The link was from an external source - I need to make a redirect Am I missing something, or is this a feature the SEO Moz crawler doesn't have yet? What can I do (other than check all my pages) to discover this?
