Ranking Multiple Domains Simultaneously
-
What kind of strategy would one implement to rank multiple domains in SERPs? (One domain per keyword) I am looking more into link blocking and that, but I don't know the effectiveness and consistency of the strategy. Does anyone have any recommendations? I really can't be arsed giving every single site it's own full SEO treatment
Thanks very kindly and in advance for your thoughts

Hi Kyle,
Thanks for your question.
"I really can't be arsed giving every single site it's own full SEO treatment :)"
Being honest, without putting major effort into each site, I doubt you'll be able to dominate an entire SERP for even a medium competition keyword for a decent length of time. As has been mentioned below, there have been efforts by Google to tone down results from the same entity (admittedly, to varying success) but it feels like for the work that is involved, you may as well spend the time building a single site and marketing that one really, really well so that it stands the test of time.
I'm not really sure what you mean by link blocking to be honest, but if you want to clarify, I'd be happy to follow up.
Cheers.
Paddy

Is there a strategic reason for not giving one site your full attention? I ask because surely a half-arsed effort on four sites is going to take twice as much work as a fully-arsed effort on one site.
P.S. Be careful with statements like the one in your question. This is a community that is rather passionate about dedicating time, effort, and intelligence to SEO and so you may be opening yourself up to some flak. It might be couched in nice terms and have actual helpful advice in the same paragraph, but that's because they're also nice people.

As Amelia suggests, I would also tend to be very careful when doing this. With all of the domain crowding updates to the Google algorithm lately, we've pretty much been told that Google doesn't like to show multiple sites (domains) in the search results that are owned by the same person or same company.
In fact, you'd have to go to great lengths, spending a lot of money, in order to keep those domains and sites separate from each other and it might just not be worth it. You'd need a different CMS, different hosting, different site owner, different address, different links, etc. etc., in order to pull it off.
You're better off spending that time and effort in creating great content for your site and getting links naturally because of that content, rather than actually spending time developing separate sites on different domain names. In fact, you already said that you don't have the resources to do it right, so I would stick to one site.
If you are able to create enough good content your site and get deep links to your pages, Google will reward you with doing something similar to having multiple domains: you'll have embedded links where some links are 'indented' under others in the search results.

Hi Kyle,
I'd be careful. The more your sites look like a link farm the less likely they will list.
If you can't be arsed creating several decent sites, why not just create one excellent one and put all your efforts into that rather than this (dodgy-to-me-sounding) strategy. If you don't mind my saying, I think it's fundamentally flawed and I recommend against it.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing!
Best wishes,
Amelia

Backlinks from a secondary domain
Hi i finally figured out why my link profile is out of wack. Apparently we had a second domain registered that for some reason was active and linking to us - somewhat duplicated site. no idea when or how that happened. I wasnt with the company then. anyhow Ive now pointed the domain to a blank folder since I dont know how to disable it in 1&1 Hosting (if anyone knows please let me know!). Im wondering if this is enough? will the links still be there indexed even though the domain points to a blank folder? also how can I get google to profile my backlinks again? so I can see if it worked. Currently waiting for a new Moz crawl so Ill see if at least there my profile is looking healthier. thanks in advance!

Landing pages rank higher thank home page
Ive been tasked to work on several sites from a client that had some shady past seo work done for them. Weak content, tons of useless links all pointing to home page, etc. Ive gone through site and given a total re-write and worked on removing and dissavowing links. Majority of the sites home page ranked high on first page google. Now the sites are closer to 100 rank than first page, and the odd thing is that home page cant be found but pages like terms and conditions or disclaimer are ranking. These pages have hardly no content compared to home pages, and while they are still ranked 80 to 100 positions back they are ranking while the home page cant be found. We have tried changing anchor text to "click here", and "for more info" instead of keyword and nothing much changed yet. Competition still has pretty much keyword anchor text and worthless links and they still rank well. Am I wasting time with rewrites and link dissavows or should I continue and eventually get the sites home page to come back on the radar? We have added social media presence and a blog that we post to regularly and for 6 months of work have hardly seen a dent for improved rankings. Am I on the right page or spinning my wheels? Any advise is appreciated.

Multiple links from a single web-site
When one good web-site (PR5) has a link to my web-site - it's great. But, if this site has a second link to my web-site from another page, is this also good? Or, let me ask in a different way, will my web-site get "double benefit" from that web-site?

Domain extensions and link building
Hi, If you were trying to rank your website for a search term in Google UK, would it be more beneficial to build links from .co.uk websites then any other? I have read on Hubspot if your targeting UK rankings then link building from .co.uk domains will have a good impact on UK rankings? Thanks

Combining two domains
Hi guys, a friend of mine has two sites. They both have a fair few links pointing to them, so I think it would be a shame to lose/ignore one of them. Some of the links are low quality, from previous link building efforts, however at the moment I can't see any real penalisation from Google, so my guess is that it's currently ok... I'm aware that I'll have to remove some of the legacy low quality links soon. My question is what should I do? Will combining the two websites help? The main site is Gazebo Shop, but there's another exact match domain to consider... I'd like to keep the main website on the first URL, as that's the one I'm redeveloping now. Thanks for any help! Edit: I should add to my question: Should I redirect individual pages to my new category pages to pass Page Authorty/Rank?

What can I do to increase this page's rank
I have this page that is doing alright for the phrase "skyward sword walkthrough" I used to be ranked number 2 but it has dropped http://legendzelda.net/skyward-sword-walkthrough/ Sites like IGN are huge so I do not blame them for overpassing my rank but zelda informer I feel like I should be outranking at least. I have a fairly good on page ranking grade using the seomoz tool. And the OSE shows I have 11 domains linking - most with some kind of variation to that keyword. And I have actually built out more since then. Most the links are on highly relevant pages. I contacted a lot of gaming sites before this game was released and asked for a link back in exchange for a variety of things (shoutouts mostly - no paid links) The page performed extremely well when Skyward Sword came out and I got hundreds of thousands of hits but as my rank is beginning to drop its a lot less (also can be attributed to hype dying down). But any suggestions or glaring issues would be great. Link building is something I am always doing as well - mostly through guest blogging.

Huge increase in rank ..
Hi Today I went from 8th to 1st place for my main keywork ( barneklær) childrens clothing in norwegian . Ive been trying to link build regularly. Last couple of weeks ive gotten links from a few catalogues and some blogs and I by no means expected a rank increase like this. Ive tried to look them up to understand why this happened - but i cant understand it. Any ideas as to how i can find out. I just dont want to drop 7 spots again without knowing what happened .. Sites URL www.epleskrinet.no if that can help . Thanks Dan Lærum
