Hit By Penguin...Wait for recovery or do i change domains?
-
I have been working hard to recover from Penguin..and keep cleaning my backlink structure...and the site start getting value and now with Penguin update 5 or 2.1 the website again lost value.. Our website have huge no of backlinks and most of the website owners are not responding.
Shall I wait for recovery or can i change the domain with same content and dead the olde one?

Hi Manroop,
You posted this a while ago and I wondered what you decided to do in the end and what the outcome was. I'm interested as I, too, have been hit by Penguin. I've disvowed/removed links, but have not had any further joy - although I need to wait until the next Penguin update before deciding on next steps. Probably changing the domain is the next step.

I don't know that anyone can answer that question without deep knowledge of the site. I agree with Chris that starting from scratch is a big move. Have you attempted to disavow the bad links? It's your next reasonable step. Unfortunately, we're unclear on the Penguin data update cycle, so seeing a positive result from this could take weeks (or longer).
If (1) nothing seems to be working, or (2) you have no good links left after the clean-up, or (3) you simply can't risk waiting any longer - from a business standpoint - then, starting over may be your only option. Keep in mind that you don't want to 301-redirect the old site (you could transfer the penalty), so you really will be starting from scratch. You'll also be taking on a new domain name, which could have many implications (positive and negative). The best you can do at that point is try to re-point some of your old, good links to the new site and at least reclaim some of that link equity.
It's a huge decision, and you need to look at all the ramifications. I would also dig deep and be absolutely sure that Penguin is the only thing that's hitting you. If you do this, and it turns out there's something about the site/content itself harming you, you're going to have made a huge change only to end up in the same situation.

Hiya,
if they (webmasters) don't respond use the disavow keep track for the sake of proving you tried to get hold of them. It's a hell of a lot more work to start from scratch then to remove some bad links. I wouldn't recommend sitting on your hands as the problem wont go away by its self.
Unfortunately penguin is doing its job and making sure you don't have a rubbish back link profile so I recommend removing the bad links and getting some good content on your site to help get some great links.
Good luck.

Should I buy an expired domain that has already been redirected to some other website? Can I use it or redirect it to my own site if I purchase it?
I was going to purchase an expired domain but then I came to know that it has been redirected to some other website. I have two questions: Can I build a website around this domain if I purchase it? and will the Domain Authority remains the same ? Can I redirect it to my own site? and will all the Link Juice flow to my site?

Has anyone noticed an Adwords algorithm change early this month?
I was digging into one of my accounts and noticed that previous well-performing ads were not being shown this month. My settings are set to Optimize for conversions: Show ads expected to provide more conversions but whichever way I look at the data, ads that were doing well previously are now only being shown about 0.1% of the time. Has anyone experienced this before or know of a possible Adwords algorithm change?

How do you evaluate algorithm changes?
First a request: Please answer this only if you own/manage more than 5 to 10 sites. Also, please understand I am trying to go beyond speculation. With the current "pigeon" update (as coined by SEL), we are seeing a lot of changes, good and not good. An example is within the real estate vertical. There is literally no "pack" whatsoever. Page one for every major real estate search in Houston: houston real estate, homes for sale, townhomes for sale, etc. is now populated by a major RE vertical player. All of these companies use the real estate rules, hire a broker, then scrape RE data from other MLS brokers. So, there is not a single Houston real estate company showing on Page one for any of these searches. Zillow, Trulia, HAR, etc. dominate the entire organic page. Within other verticals it is a mixed bag of results. A home service provider shows up with their outlying offices for searches on that service and Houston. Etc. Just curious how those of you who handle multiple sites analytically approach learning what is going on. I know what we do, but am very interested in others methodologies.

Best EDIT for Clarification: I am speaking to how do you evaluate the changes (the effects of) over a fixed period in order to draw a conclusion as to what has changed, how that affects your clients, and what you will do now given the change and the knowledge you have gained.3 -
Grabbed up some branded domains now what
With the recent release of gtlds I was waiting to pick up a .clothing for a client. For some strange reason something came over me and I ended up buying 10 domains of brandname.clothing domains of well know brands. I'm no cybersquatter but just an aspiring SEO and sell these brand's clothing products online. As I learn more about the legal issues I'm wondering what to do .Do I cancel domains with godaddy? Will I be refunded? Do I contact rightful owner and offer them the domain at cost? Can I create a fan site of the products and sell advertising as I seen on many occasions? So confused what to do?

I have a new domain, how should i best use it?
Hi all, Recently signed upto Moz and loving what i am seeing at the moment.I do alot of microsites and push both adwords and affiliate programmes and products and earn enough to give me some fun money. For a long time i have wanted to get into the mobile phone market as i have spoken to alot of people who get anything upto £100 a time from affiliate programmes. I have just purchased a new domain after doing some digging around and though that before i dive into doing things how i normally would , i thought id ask advice on how to best utilise the domain i have bought. Ive just purchased newiphone.co.uk and will put up a holding page once all of the registration has gone through and i have access to everything. According to Google keyword planner the term 'new iphone' gets around 368k searches a month. Moz says this is an extremely difficult keyword to rank for with a 80% difficulty rating so i appreciate i wont be at number 1 in a couple of weeks. Id appreciate your ideas and suggestions as a community to see how i go forward. Many tanks in advancePaul

Is paper.li a Penguin no-no?
One of our blog posts was just linked to from a paper.li site; the post on the site was then tweeted by the site's owner. From what I was able to determine, paper.li is little more than an aggregator, and the tweet was most likely automated. So, this is my two-part question: 1) Is the paper.li platform one that Penguin disapproves of, and 2) if so, should I prepare to disavow?

Any thoughts on Penguin 3.0?
Ok ok, so it's just a data refresh and not a major - but does anyone has some additional insight now that the data has been refreshed? Any thoughts about the winners and losers in this one?

Anyone drawn a Google Penguin?
Just a bit of light relief in the world of SEO. Hey SEO people are funny and can laugh as well 🙂 Our SEO team has had a go at drawing some penguins and the results are funny to us as they are so childlike. Anyone else fancy adding their drawing to the flicker group. This is just a bit of fun for us all! http://www.flickr.com/groups/googlepenguincartoons/
