Are companies buying .company domains? And does anyone have any thoughts on the future rank-ability of these domains?

I have a few of the new TLD's and love the fact you can get something that really says what you do, but you still have to be quick. I have a live site at www.seoconsultant.guru, and got very lucky with www.changing.careers

They give some real change to the more standard .com's etc.

Hi Barry,

I'm sure some people are buying many of the new TLDs they do not give and more or less ranking benefit then .com etc. what matters the most is user experience and good content. There are some thoughts on exact match domains etc. but if you have a bad quality site with thin content it won't matter.

Descriptive domain vs business name domain

I originally set up my domain as "overlandparkphotographer.com" and then have my "jpshots.com" pointing to it. What I recently discovered is that even though the pages of my I set Yost SEO Title to be "JPShots Senior Pictures | Wedding Photographer" When you search "overland park photographer" the snippet tile is just "overland park photographer" which sounds super sketchy. I don't know if this is something to do with yost, or if my sneaky Domain isn't worth much, and I should simply use my regular jpshots.com domain as the primary. I know it works like a charm with yahoo, but I'm not sure how much the domain name factors google these days.

Moving established :COM site to a .ART domain

Hi! We have an existing website that has a .com TLD with our brand name, which is completely unrelated to any of the terms we want to rank for except for the brand search of our company of course. We have an online shop and the .com site has been online for a good few years. The business activity is related to art, in fact some of our customers would search for "name of artists + art" and we appear in results. From what I have read, Google is not going to give better rankings for a .art domain name, but will the extension be counted as a potential keyword and relevancy to users searches based on example above? Does anyone have any experience with regards to this consideration? Thanks!

Exact Keywords Domain name

Hello everyone!, I would love to have your opinion on this matter. I am working on a company e-commerce site; these guys would like to change their domain name AND their company name, so the most logical thing that came to mind was to name the domain after the company name. However, they also bought in the past a domain that have the exact keyword they would like to rank for. I know that keywords in the URL are not as important as they used to be in the past, but nonetheless when I do a Google search for those keywords, 3 domains out of 10 on the first page are slight variations of those same keywords, meaning that they might have a really good domain name (also the other result are government, medical stuff and so on). And, no matter how many times I have read that keywords in the URL are not so important anymore, I still see a lot of sites ranking also because of their domain name (well at least outside the US) So, my question here is: would it be better for them to use the exact match keyword-domain name or should they use their company name for their new site? Or some sort combination of the two? (the keyword-domain that in some way points also to the brand domain). Thanks for your opinions on this; really appreciate it! Cheers

Google domain search

Hello all, I'm a newbie to SEO, so you'll have to bear with me. I just started a website LangleyHomeSaerch.com a few months ago and am having trouble ranking with google. When I search "Langley Home Search" with Yahoo or Bing, it comes up on the first page. However when I search it with google it doesn't seem to rank even in the first few hundred pages. The only way I can get a match from google is if I search "Langley HomeSearch" or "LangleyHomeSearch". I know due to google's newer algorithms that there is less importance put on domain name matches, but is this normal, or is there anything I can do to improve it? Thx, Colby Langley, BC

New .TLD domains - SEO Value?

Hi all, I see that a new wave of domains are to be released soon. We are not talking or 1 or 2 new extensions, but more like 700 new extensions on a TLD level. What's your views on their SEO value? thanks!

Using the canonical tag across multiple domains...

Hi guys I am looking for some help in regards to using canonical tags in other domains that have similar content to our main site. Would this be the right way to go about it? For example www.main.com is the website i would like to achieve best ranking with, but i also have other websites, www.secondary.com and www.somethingelse.com which have similar content and all link back to www.main.com So in order to make sure the google bot knows these other pages are a reference to the main.com page can i put a canonical tag in secondary.com that goes like this: rel="canonical" href="www.main.com" /> and put that same tag in somethingelse.com Would i achieve a better ranking for doing so on main.com or am i on the wrong track and will doing so not change a thing? Domain Deindexed because of Redirect

I think this is an interesting topic to discuss though I'm looking for answers too. One of my well performing domain deindexed by Google today. Reason: Redirect from a 9 year old Deindexed domain (Must be penalysed) I believe this is done by one of my competitor. What you people suggest me to do now? Don't you think if this is the way Google treat the redirects after Penguin anybody can use this technique to harm their competitors?

Value of a sub-domain compared to a domain

Hello, I have a client that has a blog with a domain of www.domain-a.com and a website www.domain-b.com. I told him that instead of trying to promote and rank with two different sites for the same thing that he should have his blog on www.domain-b.com so that any links, notices, visits, social mentions, etc. all point to one domain name and he was in agreement. But he uses a CMS (content management system) for his website and his hosting/design companey said it would be easier to set up his blog as a sub-domain of his site. www.blog.domain-b.com. My question is will the blog on a sub domain (www.blog.domain-b.com) help out link juice, ranking, etc. for the domain name www.domain-b.com just as must as a blog at www.domain-b.com/blog would help out the domain name www.domain-b.com? I know that Google used to treat links form sub domains as external but recently changed the treatment of these links to internal. P.S. The current blog at www.domain-a.com holds very little value currently.
